After installing Ryoku, start with its built-in Settings Hub rather than installing generic drivers: Ryoku’s installer detects hardware and configures drivers, while the Hub provides the main controls for Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, graphics, and displays. This guide follows the project’s documentation checked on October 4, 2026; Ryoku identifies itself as a public beta, so labels and hardware behavior can change between releases.
Start in Ryoku Settings
Open the Settings Hub with Mod + ,. Its documented panels include Connections for Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, GPU for choosing a render device, and Displays for resolution, refresh rate, scaling, rotation, and monitor layout. Hub changes generally apply live, but a GPU selection takes effect after you log out and back in. See the Ryoku Settings documentation for the listed panels and controls.

Set up Wi-Fi
Use Settings > Connections to select and connect to a wireless network. Ryoku lists NetworkManager and iwd, with iwd as the default Wi-Fi backend; its documentation recommends switching to wpa_supplicant for some WPA3-SAE compatibility problems.

First check that the adapter is present and its radio is not blocked, then run ryoku doctor. Ryoku’s troubleshooting guide treats adapter or firmware problems, regulatory-domain and band visibility, authentication/backend compatibility, and radio or dual-boot issues as distinct possibilities.

If a known 5 GHz network is missing—or only 2.4 GHz networks appear—check the country regulatory domain:
- Run
ryoku-wifi-regdom statusto inspect the current setting. - If Ryoku could not infer your country from the locale, set the correct two-letter country code with
ryoku-wifi-regdom set <CC>. Use your actual country code; do not copy the placeholder literally. - If a dual-band network appears as separate entries, choose its 5 GHz entry when that is the band you want to use.
These steps follow Ryoku’s real-hardware troubleshooting guide. A regulatory setting cannot fix a missing driver or an authentication failure, so use the symptom to guide the next check.
If WPA3 will not connect
In Settings > Connections, change the Wi-Fi backend to wpa_supplicant as Ryoku recommends for WPA3 edge cases. If the network still fails, record the exact error and adapter model before changing drivers; a backend change is not a general fix for every Wi-Fi problem.

Check chipset-specific causes
Do not install broadcom-wl as a universal remedy. Ryoku identifies it for Broadcom BCM43xx hardware and says its installer includes it when it detects a Broadcom PCI device. Intel adapters use a different driver and firmware path; Intel’s iwlwifi documentation notes that firmware is distributed separately and commonly supplied by distributions in linux-firmware, which Ryoku lists in its system stack.
If an Intel adapter fails to initialize on a Windows dual-boot computer, Windows Fast Startup can leave the hardware partially running. Intel’s troubleshooting guidance suggests disabling Fast Startup in Windows as a test.
Choose a graphics mode and configure displays
Ryoku’s installer detects the GPU and installs a hardware-specific profile. The project describes AMD’s open Mesa/RADV path, Intel i915 or Xe drivers with ANV Vulkan, and NVIDIA open kernel modules on Turing and newer GPUs versus proprietary modules for older Maxwell, Pascal, and Volta generations. Avoid layering an arbitrary vendor installer or separate Radeon Pro packages over Ryoku’s managed setup.

Select a GPU mode
Open Settings > GPU and choose the mode that matches your laptop’s needs. Ryoku documents three choices:
| Mode | What it does | Useful when |
|---|---|---|
| Hybrid | Uses the integrated GPU first. | You want a battery-conscious default on a hybrid laptop. |
| Performance | Pins rendering to the stronger or discrete GPU. | You need the discrete GPU for graphics performance. |
| Passthrough | Uses the integrated GPU only and leaves the discrete device for a virtual machine. | You need to reserve the discrete GPU for VM passthrough. |
The GPU setting is a choice among power use, rendering performance, and whether the discrete device must remain available to a VM—not a rule that one mode is best for every laptop. Log out and back in after changing it so the compositor starts with the new GPU pin. Details are in Ryoku’s Displays & hardware documentation.
Set up monitors and laptop displays
Use Settings > Displays to set resolution, refresh rate, scale, rotation, and display arrangement. Some laptop internal panels expose only their native resolution; if interface elements feel too large, adjust scale rather than expecting a lower panel resolution to be available.

If the installer screen is black or garbled
For a live installer that shows a black or corrupted display, boot using its safe graphics entry, which adds nomodeset. Ryoku says installed NVIDIA systems already have their NVIDIA modeset configuration. If an installed NVIDIA system boots to a black screen, use the Limine fallback and add nomodeset temporarily to boot and investigate; it is a troubleshooting step, not a normal graphics setting.
Understand audio and Bluetooth
Ryoku lists PipeWire with PulseAudio compatibility, ALSA support, WirePlumber, and Bluetooth A2DP codec support in its software stack. Use the Settings Hub’s Connections panel for Bluetooth pairing. The project’s reviewed documentation does not establish one universal set of audio-output selector labels or a complete routing walkthrough for HDMI, analog, USB, and Bluetooth outputs, so check the controls shown by your installed release rather than relying on assumed menu names. Ryoku’s package overview is at ryoku.dev.
If Bluetooth headphones connect and then disconnect
Ryoku attributes repeated drops on common combined Wi-Fi/Bluetooth chipsets to USB autosuspend and says a Ryoku package disables that behavior. Fresh installations need no action for this issue. On an older installation, run ryoku update and reboot. The hardware guide also documents reloading btusb without rebooting, but updating and restarting is the stated path for older systems.
Quick Recap
Match the fix to the symptom
- Adapter absent or not initializing: check detection, radio block, and driver or firmware; consider a dual-boot Fast Startup issue for affected Intel hardware.
- Adapter works but a band or network is absent: check regulatory-domain status and whether the router’s bands appear as separate entries.
- Network appears but authentication fails: try the documented wpa_supplicant backend for WPA3 edge cases.
- Display is wrong after a GPU change: log out and back in; then review the GPU and Displays panels.
- Bluetooth headset drops after connecting: on an older system, update Ryoku and reboot to get the documented autosuspend fix.
