How to Set Up the TCL NXTPAPER 14 for Comfortable Reading

Choose the right NXTPAPER mode for books, articles, comics, or everyday use, then tune the TCL NXTPAPER 14’s display settings for your reading routine.

For a text-heavy book or article, start with Ink Paper; choose Color Paper for comics or illustrated magazines, and return to Regular for general tablet use. Switch modes with the NXTPAPER key or through Settings, then adjust brightness, text size, and other Display options to suit your room and reading app.

Choose the NXTPAPER mode that fits what you’re reading

TCL describes three modes for different kinds of content. The descriptions below are the manufacturer’s intended use cases, not independent measurements of comfort.

Mode Best starting point
Ink Paper Books, long articles, and lengthy documents. TCL describes this as an e-reader-like, e-ink-like viewing mode.
Color Paper Comics, manga, and magazines where illustrations and color matter.
Regular Video and general tablet use when you want regular color presentation.

These use cases come from TCL’s NXTPAPER 14 product page. If you are unsure which you prefer, display the same page or passage in each mode and compare them.

Switch display modes

  1. Use the NXTPAPER key for the quick mode change TCL describes, if that is how your tablet is configured.
  2. Or open Settings and find “NXTPAPER zone.” The TCL manual identifies this area as the place to change NXTPAPER mode. Menu labels and paths can vary by software release, so search Settings for “NXTPAPER zone” if you do not see it where expected.

The manual’s section 8.5 is titled “NXTPAPER zone” and says, “Touch to change the NXTPAPER mode.” See the TCL NXTPAPER 14 English user manual.

Adjust the display for your room and reading habits

Set brightness for the current light

In Settings, open Display and adjust screen brightness until the text is easy for you to read in the room you are in. There is no official numerical brightness target in the reviewed materials. TCL also describes automatic adjustment of brightness and color temperature according to surroundings and time of day; treat that as a device feature, not a guarantee that the screen will suit every environment.

Compare Eye comfort mode and dark mode

Both Eye comfort mode and dark mode are listed among the Display controls in the manual. Try them alongside your reading app’s own page theme: apps may handle themes differently, and the manual does not establish that every combination behaves the same way across apps or NXTPAPER modes.

Make text easier to follow and prevent interruptions

Display settings also include font size and sleep time. Increase the font if the page is difficult to read, and choose a sleep interval that does not turn the screen off too soon while you are reading. The TCL manual lists these controls but does not prescribe a particular size or timeout.

Use eye-care reminders as prompts

TCL says the interface can send reminders to rest your eyes. You can leave them enabled if you find them useful as prompts, but they are not a substitute for taking breaks and do not establish a health benefit. TCL’s product descriptions are manufacturer claims; the reviewed material does not establish an independent clinical finding that NXTPAPER settings prevent eye strain or improve eye health.

Account for software and model differences

TCL cautions that manual descriptions can differ by software release. If a path or label does not match your tablet, use Settings search for “NXTPAPER zone” or “Display,” and consult TCL’s NXTPAPER 14 support page for model-specific materials. The North American listing identifies the device as model 9491G and lists a 14.3-inch, 2400 × 1600 display and Android 14; those are the listed specifications, not a guarantee that every market or updated device has an identical configuration. That listing says the US/Canada package includes a stylus and flip case, while bundles can vary by market. See TCL’s US/Canada product listing.
