How to Set Up the Astro A50 X for PC, PlayStation, and Xbox

Set up the Astro A50 X with console HDMI passthrough and USB, or connect PC/Mac by USB-C. Learn about PLAYSYNC, older TVs, and cable troubleshooting.

To set up the Logitech G Astro A50 X, connect Xbox Series X|S or PlayStation 5 through the base station’s HDMI passthrough and USB connection, following Logitech’s diagram for your console. For PC or Mac, connect the headset to the computer by USB-C. The A50 X can switch among connected systems with PLAYSYNC, and you do not need an HDMI 2.1 TV—though an older display may limit advanced video features.

Before you connect the A50 X

Choose the platform you are setting up: Xbox Series X|S, PS5, or PC/Mac. The console setup uses the base station in the HDMI video path between console and display, plus a USB connection to the console. PC/Mac audio connects to the computer over USB-C. Logitech’s combined A50 X setup guide and setup diagrams show the platform-specific routing.

Use the A50 X instructions specifically. Earlier Astro A50 generations may use different setup steps and should not be treated as interchangeable.

Connect the Astro A50 X to Xbox Series X|S

  1. Route video: Connect the Xbox, base station, and display in the HDMI passthrough arrangement shown in Logitech’s Xbox diagram. The base station sits between the console and display.
  2. Connect USB: Make the USB connection between the Xbox and base station as shown in the same diagram.
  3. Check the result: Logitech lists HDMI 2.1 passthrough, 4K at 120 Hz capability, Game/Chat mixing, and Dolby Atmos among the Xbox features. These are manufacturer-stated capabilities, not guarantees of a particular result: the console, display, cables, and configuration all affect output.

For the precise base-station ports and cable routing, follow the Logitech Xbox setup diagram rather than relying on instructions for another A50 model.

Connect the Astro A50 X to PlayStation 5

  1. Route video: Follow Logitech’s PS5 diagram to place the base station in the HDMI path between the console and display.
  2. Connect USB: Connect the base station to the PS5 by USB as shown in Logitech’s diagram.
  3. Use PS5-specific features: Logitech lists HDMI 2.1 passthrough, Game/Chat mixing, and 3D Audio for the PS5 connection. Do not assume Xbox-specific Dolby Atmos setup guidance applies to PlayStation.

The A50 X setup guide provides the port-by-port PS5 routing. The available Logitech setup information does not establish specific current PS5 menu labels, so consult the console’s current audio settings if you need to select an output device.

Connect the Astro A50 X to PC or Mac

  1. Connect the A50 X to the computer using USB-C, as specified by Logitech.
  2. Use your computer’s audio settings to select and configure the headset if needed; exact labels can vary by operating system and version.

Logitech describes PC/Mac audio support with Dolby Atmos or Windows Sonic, Game/Chat mixing, and customization through Logitech G HUB. This is a USB-C computer-audio connection; keep the computer’s display-video cabling separate from the console HDMI passthrough setup.

Logitech describes PLAYSYNC as a way to connect Xbox Series X|S, PS5, and PC/Mac and switch systems from the headset. Connect and configure each platform according to its own diagram; PLAYSYNC is the intended switching feature, not a guarantee that every combination will work without platform-specific setup.

Does the A50 X work with a non-HDMI 2.1 TV?

Yes. Logitech Support says, “Your A50 X does not require an HDMI 2.1 TV.” Logitech also says the A50 X is backward compatible with older HDMI versions. On a display without HDMI 2.1, however, advanced features such as 120 Hz HDR, Variable Refresh Rate (VRR), and Auto Low Latency Mode (ALLM) may be limited. See Logitech’s HDMI 2.1 compatibility FAQ.

Troubleshoot black screens, flickering, or artifacts

If the display goes black, flickers, or shows image artifacts, Logitech advises against older or poor-quality HDMI cables and suggests trying HDMI 2.1-certified cables. The HDMI Forum’s Ultra High Speed certification program is the relevant certification reference. This is conditional troubleshooting advice; it does not mean every A50 X setup requires a new cable.

  • Recheck that the console, base station, and display are connected in the platform diagram’s order.
  • If symptoms persist, try suitable HDMI 2.1-certified cables in the HDMI path.
  • Check the display and console capabilities when a feature such as high refresh rate or VRR is unavailable; an older HDMI display can limit those features.

For Logitech’s cable guidance and display compatibility details, see its support FAQ.
