Best Wireless Gaming Headsets for PC, PS5, and Xbox

Compare multi-platform wireless gaming headsets by console compatibility, connection setup, platform features, and model-generation caveats.

The right wireless headset for PC, PS5, and Xbox depends less on a broad “console compatible” label than on the exact model variant and how you plan to switch devices. For all three platforms, SteelSeries’ Arctis Nova 5X is a straightforward option; for a desk shared by multiple consoles and a PC, compare base-station models such as the Astro A50 X and Arctis Nova Pro Omni. Check platform-specific features before buying: for example, Nova 5X ChatMix is not supported on PlayStation.

How to choose a headset for more than one platform

Start by checking the exact variant, not just the product family name. Xbox and PlayStation versions of the same headset can differ in console support or platform features. Then check the connection path: a USB wireless dongle may be easier to move between systems, while a powered base station can simplify a permanent multi-device setup but takes desk space and may be required for the headset to work.

  • Confirm compatibility: Look for explicit support for your consoles and PC, including older console generations if relevant.
  • Check the wireless methods: A 2.4 GHz dongle and Bluetooth are different connection options. Their presence does not by itself establish that game audio and phone audio can be mixed simultaneously.
  • Map out switching: Find out whether you will move a dongle between devices or connect each system to a base station.
  • Verify platform features: ChatMix and spatial-audio access can change by system or variant.
  • Keep model generations separate: Battery results for one generation should not be assumed to apply to its successor.

Shortlist: which headsets fit which setup?

Headset Compatibility and connection Best fit and caveat
SteelSeries Arctis Nova 5X Wireless SteelSeries lists Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PS5, PS4, and PC support, with USB-C 2.4 GHz wireless and Bluetooth. SteelSeries product page A direct match for someone seeking one headset for Xbox, PlayStation, and PC. SteelSeries says PlayStation does not support ChatMix.
SteelSeries Arctis Nova 7X Wireless RTINGS describes its wireless dongle as usable with Xbox, PC, and PlayStation, plus Bluetooth for phone audio. RTINGS Xbox headset roundup A mid-range multi-platform option. RTINGS measured over 33 hours of continuous runtime for the tested Nova 7X. That figure is for the tested model, not the Nova 7 Gen 2; RTINGS said the newer generation had improved battery life but was not yet tested in that roundup.
SteelSeries Arctis Nova Pro Omni PC Gamer describes a base station with three USB-C connections, including one dedicated to Xbox, and support for PS5, PC, and other devices. The review describes Dolby Atmos and Windows Sonic on PC/Xbox and Tempest 3D Audio on PS5. PC Gamer review Consider it if a multi-device base station and the described platform audio features suit your setup. RTINGS compares it with the Astro A50 X as an alternative for buyers who prefer ANC and swappable batteries over balanced sound and HDMI 2.1 passthrough. RTINGS wireless gaming headset roundup
Logitech G Astro A50 X Tom’s Hardware says its base station connects to PC, PS5, and Xbox; both 2.4 GHz and Bluetooth are routed through that station. Tom’s Hardware review Useful to compare for a fixed multi-platform desk. The powered base station is required for the headset to work, which limits its convenience for travel or setups without a suitable place for the station.
Audeze Maxwell 2 RTINGS describes separate PlayStation and Xbox variants. Its Xbox version also works with PC and PlayStation; the PlayStation version provides access to Sony Tempest 3D audio. RTINGS PS5 headset roundup Choose by variant and platform feature, rather than assuming both versions behave identically.

Best straightforward pick for Xbox, PS5, and PC

SteelSeries Arctis Nova 5X Wireless

Among these options, Nova 5X has the clearest manufacturer-listed fit for someone who wants one headset across Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PS5, PS4, and PC. Its listed connections are USB-C 2.4 GHz wireless and Bluetooth. The important trade-off is feature-specific: SteelSeries says ChatMix is not supported on PlayStation. Check the product listing for your region and the exact version before purchasing.

Best choices for a shared gaming desk

Choose a base station when you want a central connection point

The Astro A50 X and Nova Pro Omni both use a base station, but their connection details differ. Tom’s Hardware describes the A50 X station as the route for both 2.4 GHz and Bluetooth, and says the station is required. PC Gamer describes the Nova Pro Omni station as having three USB-C ports, one dedicated to Xbox. This can make a permanent setup easier to organize, but it ties the headset to the station’s placement and connection arrangement.

Choose a dongle workflow when moving between devices matters

RTINGS describes the Nova 7X dongle as working with Xbox, PC, and PlayStation, with Bluetooth available for phone audio. That gives it a different setup profile from a headset that depends on a powered base station. The cited coverage does not establish a simultaneous game-and-phone-audio workflow, so verify that specific requirement if it matters to you.

ChatMix is not universal

For Nova 5X, SteelSeries explicitly says PlayStation does not support ChatMix. Do not treat a feature listed for one platform as available on every connected system.

Spatial audio depends on the platform and variant

PC Gamer’s Nova Pro Omni review describes Dolby Atmos and Windows Sonic on PC and Xbox, and Tempest 3D Audio on PS5. RTINGS says the PlayStation version of Audeze Maxwell 2 provides Tempest 3D audio access, while its Xbox version also works with PC and PlayStation. These descriptions apply to the named models and variants; they are not a general guarantee for other headsets.

Do not transfer battery claims between generations

RTINGS reports over 33 hours of continuous runtime for the tested Arctis Nova 7X. The same roundup says the Nova 7 Gen 2 had improved battery life but had not yet been tested there. Treat those as separate model-generation statements, not a measured runtime claim for Gen 2.

What to check before you buy

  1. Match the exact model and variant to your systems. Confirm Xbox, PlayStation, and PC support on the manufacturer’s listing, rather than relying on a shared family name.
  2. Choose your switching method. Decide whether moving a USB dongle is acceptable or whether you want a base station connected to the devices. For the A50 X, account for the fact that the station is required.
  3. Confirm the feature that matters most on each platform. Check ChatMix, spatial audio, and the connection method against the specific console or computer you will use.
  4. Check the current generation and local listing. Availability, supported features, and prices can vary by region and change over time; the sources cited here do not establish current prices.

Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change. Any price and availability information displayed on Amazon at the time of purchase will apply.
