Use a Stripe Payment Link to give livestream viewers a hosted page where they can pay a fixed amount or choose a one-time amount. Before sharing it, make sure the payment is genuinely for content or another service you provide: Stripe distinguishes that kind of tip from a charitable donation and does not support personal or peer-to-peer transfers.
Check that your payments qualify as tips
Stripe says a tip must be given for goods or services already provided, and gives content as an example. That can fit a viewer payment supporting your livestream content. Do not describe an ordinary payment to you as a charitable donation: Stripe says a donation must be for a specific charitable purpose and used for that purpose. Personal or peer-to-peer money transfers are not supported. Review Stripe’s requirements for accepting tips or donations before setting up the page.

Eligibility also depends on where your Stripe account is based and what the payment supports. Stripe gives examples of restrictions: Australia does not support donations unless linked to specific goods or services; Hong Kong does not support donations; India does not support charities or donations to them; Indonesia limits supported donations to community organisations or social welfare institutions; Japan does not support donations to individuals and imposes an agreement requirement for donations; Singapore limits them to registered charitable or religious organisations; and Thailand does not support donations. These examples are not a complete legal assessment. Check Stripe’s current guidance and applicable local law for your country and use case.

Choose an amount model

Stripe Payment Links are the no-code route: they create a hosted payment page that you can share. Stripe Checkout is another implementation option if you want a hosted redirect or an embedded payment form or components on your own website. Create and share a Stripe Payment Link
- Open Payment Links in the Stripe Dashboard. Start creating a new payment link. Stripe’s help guide covers accepting donations; follow its workflow while choosing language that accurately describes your creator tip and meets Stripe’s requirements.
- Select the amount type. Choose a fixed amount or the customer-chosen amount option. For a fixed amount, select a product or subscription; if needed, create a product with a name, description, and price. For a customer-chosen amount, enter a title and description, then set a preset amount, minimum, or maximum if useful.
- Set the call to action. Stripe’s support guide says the button text can be changed from “pay” to “donate” under Advanced options when appropriate. For ordinary support of your livestream content, use wording such as “tip” or another accurate description—not “donate” unless the payment is genuinely for a specific charitable purpose.
- Create the link. Review the page’s description and amount settings, then create the Payment Link.
- Put it where viewers can find it. Copy the link URL or use Stripe’s QR-code option. You can share it by email or social media, or place it on your website. A livestream description, profile, pinned comment, or on-screen graphic may also work if your streaming platform permits payment links; check that platform’s current rules because they vary and are not established here.
Stripe’s no-code Payment Links provide a hosted payment page with a shareable link; Stripe introduced the product in 2021 as a way for businesses to create a payment page without code. Read Stripe’s May 25, 2021 launch announcement.
Before you share the link
- Describe the transaction accurately. Make clear that viewers are tipping in support of content or a service you provide. Do not imply a charitable purpose unless there is one, and use funds for that stated purpose if you solicit charitable donations.
- Check country and account eligibility. Confirm current Stripe requirements for your country and the specific kind of payment. The examples above do not determine every creator’s eligibility.
- Confirm platform rules. Make sure your livestream platform allows links, QR codes, or payment prompts in the locations where you plan to show them.
- Check account-specific details. Fees, payouts, and account review depend on your location and Stripe account. Verify them in your Stripe account and Stripe’s current information rather than assuming a universal amount or schedule.
