Add a game to your Steam Wishlist, then enable sale alerts by email, through the Steam mobile app, or both. Email settings are under Account Details → Manage Email Preferences. Steam confirms mobile alerts are available, but its official guidance does not specify the current in-app menu path for the wishlist-sale control.
Add a game to your Steam Wishlist
- Sign in to Steam and open the game’s Store page.
- Select Add to your Wishlist.
- To revisit your list, hover over Store and select Wishlist. You can manage the list in the Steam client or a web browser. Steam Support’s Wishlist guide also explains that Wishlist visibility follows your Community Profile privacy settings.
Choose how Steam should alert you
Steam supports both email and Steam mobile app notifications for games on your Wishlist. Its Wishlist Notifications page names Daily Deal, Midweek Deal, and Weekend Deal promotions. The page also says you can opt out of these emails or switch off mobile notifications. Neither channel should be treated as a promise of an alert for every price change.

Enable email notifications
- Open the account-name menu in the upper-right corner of Steam.
- Select Account Details.
- Choose Manage Email Preferences.
- Allow the relevant Steam email messages in your preferences. Steam’s documentation does not establish an exact current checkbox label, so look for the Wishlist or sale-notification option rather than relying on a specific label.
Steam requires a verified email address for these notifications. If the address is unverified or the relevant messages are disabled in your preferences, email alerts may not arrive. Steamworks’ Wishlist documentation describes the requirement and settings location.
Enable mobile app alerts
Install or open the Steam mobile app and review its notification settings for Wishlist or sale notifications. Steam confirms that Wishlist alerts can be sent through the app, but its official notification page does not document a current sequence of app menus or the exact toggle label. If mobile notifications have been disabled, turn them back on in the app’s notification settings.

Why a Steam sale alert may not arrive immediately
A qualifying promotion does not necessarily produce an instant email. Steamworks says email can take hours to send and may take longer when notification volume is high. It also describes a cooldown between emails for a given app: ordinarily one to two weeks, with the cooldown potentially extended during high traffic. These are platform delivery conditions described in developer documentation, not a guaranteed delivery schedule for an individual message.
Steamworks also describes conditions for a promotion notification: a discount of at least 20%, applying at minimum to the lowest-priced package, and a promotion duration greater than eight hours. These developer-facing criteria explain why a price change might not trigger a notification; they do not guarantee an alert whenever a game’s price drops. Troubleshoot a missing alert
- Confirm the game is still wishlisted. Open Store → Wishlist and check the entry. Steam Support explains how to manage Wishlist items in its Wishlist guide.
- For email, check verification and preferences. Confirm your email address is verified and that Steam sale-related messages are allowed under Account Details → Manage Email Preferences.
- For app alerts, check notification settings. Make sure mobile notifications have not been turned off in the Steam app.
- Allow for delivery delays. Email can take hours or longer during high-volume periods, and the documented per-app cooldown can affect when another message is sent.
Do you need anything beyond Steam?
No paid hardware or manual is needed to set up Wishlist notifications. Email works through your Steam account, while the optional mobile channel uses the Steam app. Steam’s Wishlist and notification features are digital account settings.
