For the PC version of Dragon Age: Origins, start with the community Steam Input layout “Console Players on Steam Deck (Radial Menu)”. It maps Deck controls to mouse-and-keyboard actions, giving you stick movement alongside trackpad pointer and menu controls. It is a community-made layout, not an official BioWare or Valve preset.
Why Steam Deck needs a custom layout
The Steam PC version is described in a Steam Community support discussion as lacking native controller support. Steam Input can translate the Deck’s buttons and controls into the keyboard and mouse inputs the game expects. Valve’s Steam Deck Verified criteria also recognize that some games require players to select a community controller configuration manually.

The original Dragon Age: Origins PC manual lists keyboard shortcuts for functions such as the character record, journal, inventory, skills, spells and talents, maps, and tactics. Keep it handy when deciding which actions to bind for quick access.

These menu labels and steps come from the layout author’s Steam Community guide; Steam’s interface can change over time. If the layout does not appear in the list, the author suggests opening the guide in Desktop mode and following its Steam controller link in a browser.

What the layout maps
Aximlli’s mapping takes inspiration from the Xbox radial menu, combining familiar stick movement with trackpad and trigger inputs for PC-style controls. The layout author describes the following assignments:
| Deck control | Mapped action |
|---|---|
| Left stick | Movement |
| Right stick | Camera |
| A | Interact |
| X | Swap weapon sets |
| Y | Pause |
| B | Skip dialogue or go back |
| D-pad | Switch characters |
| Left trackpad | Menus such as inventory and map |
| Right trackpad | Actions and mouse control |
| Triggers | Mouse clicks |
| Back grip | Walk/run toggle |
This is one user-created arrangement, not a requirement. Use the game’s keyboard shortcuts as a reference when changing bindings, especially for actions you use often.

Adjust controls that feel awkward or risky
Pointer selection feels imprecise
Try the right trackpad as a pointer and adjust its sensitivity or activation behavior in Steam Input. A PC Gamer reviewer’s June 30, 2026 account describes using the right trackpad for pointer input. That is an individual experience, not a controlled comparison of layouts.

A button is too easy to press by mistake
Move consequential commands to a less exposed control. The same PC Gamer account reports changing a quick-load binding after accidental presses; treat that as a useful caution, not evidence that every player will encounter the problem.

Menus or abilities take too many steps
Consider assigning frequent actions to a radial menu or a trackpad menu, then test the revised layout in low-risk situations. The radial-menu implementation is user-created, so its organization and feel may not suit everyone.

When comparing community layouts—or deciding what to change in this one—focus on three practical questions:
Rank #4
- 6-in-1 USB-C Hub: Connect, charge, and play without limits thanks to a 100W PD-IN port for fast charging, a 4K HDMI output, a 1Gbps Ethernet port, two USB-A ports at 5Gbps each, and one USB-C port at 5Gbps.
- See Every Detail: The 4K@60Hz HDMI port brings your games to life with stunning resolution and crystal-clear imagery.(Note: The USB-C data port does not support screen mirroring.)
- Ultra-Speed Ethernet: Dominate online play with lightning-fast 1,000 Mbps Ethernet, where every millisecond counts.
- Unlimited Connections: Maximize your gameplay with versatile USB ports, offering 5Gbps speed for mice, keyboards, game controllers, and more.
- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (6-in-1, For Handheld Game Console), 8.66-inch (220 mm) built-in USB C cable, welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
- Pointer precision: Can you select menu items and targets reliably with the trackpad and mouse-click triggers?
- Access to frequent actions: Can you reach the abilities and menus you use most without interrupting play with too many steps?
- Accidental activation: Are quick-load or other consequential commands placed where an unintended press is unlikely?
There is no cited population success rate for Steam Deck controls in this game, and the available reviewer account is not a representative test. Community layouts can also change or disappear, so treat the named layout as a documented starting point rather than a guarantee of a particular experience.
