To monitor a currency pair before exchanging, choose the pair, set a target rate in an alert service, and enable its available email or app notifications. When an alert arrives, check the provider’s live conversion quote and fees before you exchange: an alert is not an order, and a reference mid-market rate is not necessarily the rate you will receive.
Choose a pair and a target rate
Start with the currencies in the direction you care about, such as USD/EUR or USD/JPY. Then decide the rate condition you want to monitor. Confirm that the service supports your exact pair in its current interface; the official pages do not establish that every pair is available to every user or account.

Before saving the alert, check whether the service lets you enter a target number directly or select it on a chart, and whether it offers notifications in the channel you will notice. Alert setup records a condition to watch; it does not necessarily execute a currency exchange.
Set up an alert with Xe
Documented website workflow
Xe’s help article, dated 28 June 2023, documents this workflow for a business account. The current interface may differ, so use the equivalent alert control if labels or account options have changed:

- Choose Rate alerts.
- Select the plus icon.
- Choose the currency pair.
- Enter a target rate or move the alert line on the graph.
- Optionally add a nickname, then create the alert.

App and notification options
Xe’s FAQ says alerts are available on its app and website. Its documented app path is to register, open the alert screen with the bell icon, and add a pair and target. Xe describes push notifications in the app and email notifications on the web; app notification preferences can be managed in settings. Check the controls and available notification choices in your own account.

Set up an alert with Wise
Wise promotes free rate alerts and phone notifications. Its Rate Tracker uses the mid-market exchange rate, which Wise describes as the latest real mid-market rate. Wise also explicitly says: “Getting this rate when making a transfer with Wise isn’t guaranteed.” Rates move frequently, so treat the tracker as a reference for monitoring—not as a guaranteed transfer quote.

Wise separately advertises an app auto-convert feature. An alert tells you when a target condition is met; auto-convert is a distinct feature that can initiate a conversion according to the instructions you configure. Review those instructions before enabling it.

When a notification arrives, open the provider you plan to use and review the conversion quote and fees for the amount and route you intend to exchange. A displayed benchmark rate may differ from the rate offered for a transaction, and the rate may have moved by the time you act.
Xe says: “We use the mid-market rate for our Converter. This is for informational purposes only. You won’t receive this rate when sending money.” Wise likewise warns that receiving its Rate Tracker mid-market rate on a transfer is not guaranteed. The transaction quote—not the alert display—is what to assess before proceeding.

What to compare when choosing an alert service
- Pair availability: Confirm that the service supports the currencies and direction you need.
- Target entry: Check whether you can type a target rate or select one on a chart.
- Notification channel: Verify whether alerts arrive by email, app push notification, or another option in your account.
- What happens at the target: Know whether the feature only notifies you or, in the case of a separately configured option such as Wise auto-convert, can initiate a conversion.
- Transaction terms: Compare the live quote and fees for your actual exchange rather than assuming the reference rate is available.
