Allow microphone access for your PTT app
The path below is documented for OxygenOS 14. Menu names and locations can differ across OnePlus models and Android or OxygenOS versions.

- Open Settings.
- Go to Security & Privacy > Privacy > Permission manager.
- Tap Microphone, select your PTT app, and choose the permission that fits how you use it.
- Return to the app and configure its push-to-talk button or control using that app’s instructions.
OnePlus documents the Permission manager path in its OxygenOS 14 user manual and Nord CE4 Lite 5G manual. The permission lets an app record audio; denying it blocks microphone use. Android’s available choices can include Allow only while using the app, Ask every time, and Don’t allow, but the options shown depend on the phone and app. Google explains the controls in its Android app-permission guide.

- Ask every time: prompts you when the app requests access.
- Don’t allow: prevents the app from using the microphone.
If the app does not appear under Microphone, open Settings > Apps > [PTT app] > Permissions and check its microphone setting. Google documents both permission-by-app and permission-by-type routes in its Android app-permission guide.

Set up the push-to-talk control in the app
Granting Android microphone access only permits the app to capture audio; it does not configure the PTT control. Open the selected app and follow its setup instructions for its button or other push-to-talk control. There is no universal OnePlus PTT setting or single app-specific setup sequence established here. For details such as transmitting while the app is in the background, consult the app’s official instructions.
Check whether microphone access is blocked or active
Check the system-wide microphone control
Android’s microphone Quick Settings control can block microphone access for apps system-wide. If it is switched off, the PTT app may not be able to capture audio even when its individual permission is allowed. Swipe down twice and look for the microphone tile; if it is not visible, you may be able to add it by editing Quick Settings. The swipe-down method and tile availability can vary by device. See Google’s guidance on camera and microphone access.

Identify an app using the microphone
On Android 12 and later, a green status indicator appears when an app or service uses the microphone or camera. Tap the indicator to identify what is using it; tap again to manage permissions. Google describes this feature and its device caveats in its camera and microphone access guide.
Review recent permission activity
Where supported, open Settings > Security and Privacy or Privacy > Privacy dashboard, then choose the permission you want to review. The Android 13 dashboard can show the previous seven days of activity; Android 12 shows 24 hours, according to Google’s Privacy dashboard guidance.

Troubleshoot a PTT app that cannot hear or transmit
The app says it has no microphone access
- Check its individual microphone permission in Permission manager or under Settings > Apps > [PTT app] > Permissions.
- Check that the global microphone Quick Settings control is not blocking access.
The app has permission but still will not transmit
Check the app’s own PTT setup and instructions. Microphone permission alone does not establish that the app’s push-to-talk control is configured or that the app supports a particular background, network, or hardware behavior.
The green microphone indicator appears unexpectedly
Tap it to identify the app or service using the microphone. If available on your Android version, review the microphone entry in Privacy dashboard and adjust the relevant app’s permission.
