Climbey added support for eye-openness data over OSC in an update dated October 2, 2026. The release note confirms the feature, but does not specify how to enable it, what OSC address or value format it expects, which headsets it supports, or what should change in-game. If you use Steam Link, you can check the general OSC-sharing path and test whether messages are arriving—but those checks are not confirmed Climbey setup instructions.
What Climbey’s update confirms—and what it doesn’t
The official Climbey Steam update dated October 2, 2026 says: “Add support for Eye-Openness via OSC.” That establishes that Climbey added support for eye-openness data sent over OSC. The one-line note does not document a Climbey-specific switch, OSC address, port, payload type, required sender application, supported devices, or expected in-game effect. That means there is no verified Climbey-specific configuration recipe to follow yet. In particular, don’t assume that receiving eye-openness data necessarily produces visible blinks, or that every headset with eye tracking can send a format Climbey accepts. Check current Climbey release notes or support information for product-specific instructions before choosing an address or payload.

If you use Steam Link, check its general OSC-sharing path
WorldViz documents a Steam Link workflow for its External Data Recorder. This is useful as a general checklist for a Steam Link source, but it is not a Climbey setup guide and does not establish that Climbey uses the same controls, port, or message format.

- Open SteamVR’s Steam Link settings. In the WorldViz workflow, enable “Enable OSC” and “Share eye tracking data to other apps on this PC.” The exact availability of these settings may depend on the user’s runtime and setup.
- Compare the sender and listener ports. The OSC output port in the source must match the port used by the receiving application or diagnostic listener. Do not assume a particular port for Climbey; its announcement does not state one.
- Check the receiving application separately. Confirm that the listener is configured to accept OSC messages on that port. A setting in the source cannot compensate for a listener waiting elsewhere.
These checks follow the WorldViz Steam Link guide; they are general diagnostics, not verified requirements for Climbey.
Test whether eye-openness messages are arriving
First separate a source problem from a Climbey compatibility problem: determine whether OSC messages reach a listener at all. WorldViz’s guide suggests using its Steamlink_Gaze.py diagnostic script to inspect incoming OSC messages and openness values. That script is part of the WorldViz External Data Recorder workflow; it is not documented as a Climbey tool or bundled with the game.

If you use another OSC monitor, treat it as an optional diagnostic. Configure it for the port your source is actually sending to, and interpret its output according to the monitor’s supported message formats. If messages arrive there but Climbey shows no effect, the unresolved issue may be the address, payload, supported hardware, or in-game behavior Climbey expects; the release note does not settle those details.

A diagnostic listener may fail to start if another program is already listening on the same UDP port. WorldViz identifies this as a possible issue and mentions VRChat and VRCFaceTracking as examples of applications that can conflict in its workflow. If your listener reports that it cannot bind to a port, close the other OSC-consuming application or use a different available port, then make sure the sender and listener are both configured for that same port. This does not mean Climbey uses either port mentioned in the WorldViz guide.

Don’t assume another app’s OSC format works with Climbey
OSC applications define their own addresses and payloads. VRChat, for example, documents /tracking/eye/EyesClosedAmount with a value range of 0 to 1 and a 10-second timeout. Those are VRChat’s documented conventions only; they do not show that Climbey consumes that address or format. See the VRChat eye-tracking OSC documentation for its behavior.
So, if a monitor shows incoming messages but Climbey does not respond, do not change the sender to VRChat’s address based on that example. Find a Climbey-specific address and payload in current official documentation or ask Climbey support.

Keep headset and per-eye details in context
WorldViz describes different eye-openness outputs in its own recorder workflow: its port 9000 path carries one shared openness value, while its port 9015 path can carry separate eye values when face-tracking sharing is enabled. The guide also says Steam Frame openness columns do not apply in that recorder workflow. These details describe WorldViz’s setup; they do not confirm that Climbey supports those ports, separate per-eye values, Steam Frame, or any particular headset.

Work through the checks in order
- Confirm the game version. Make sure Climbey has the October 2, 2026 update or a later one, and check newer Climbey release notes for any added setup guidance.
- Identify your connection path and headset. If you use Steam Link, check its OSC and data-sharing settings using the general workflow above. Do not assume those controls exist in another runtime.
- Verify the port match. Confirm that the sender’s OSC output and your diagnostic listener use the same port. Climbey’s update note does not establish a Climbey-specific port.
- Resolve listener conflicts. If a diagnostic says it cannot bind or listen on UDP, close other OSC applications or select another available port, then align the sender and listener.
- Interpret the result. If no messages reach the listener, continue troubleshooting the source, sharing settings, port, or conflict. If messages do arrive but Climbey shows no effect, look for Climbey’s current documented address, payload, device support, and expected behavior rather than guessing.
