Minecraft Dungeons II is available on Steam, and Mojang says an update has made it playable on Steam Deck. On a Deck, install and update the Steam version, then try launching it with Steam’s default compatibility settings. Desktop Linux is less certain: Mojang’s update does not confirm general Linux compatibility or recommend a Proton version.
What Linux players can expect
Minecraft Dungeons II launched on September 29, 2026, with a Steam release alongside console versions, according to Mojang’s launch announcement and the Steam listing. The Steam version is the one relevant to Proton.

On October 1, Mojang said the game “should now be playable on Steam Deck.” The same update warns that issues may occur, including missing on-screen keyboard functionality, and says further improvements are planned toward full Steam Deck verification. That statement is specifically about Steam Deck; it does not certify desktop Linux or prescribe a Proton build. See Mojang’s Steam Deck update.

Set it up on Steam Deck
- Install the Steam version. Find Minecraft Dungeons II in Steam and install it on the Deck.
- Update Steam and the game. Mojang’s Steam Deck playability statement followed a game update, so make sure the update has been applied before troubleshooting.
- Launch normally before changing compatibility settings. Use the standard Steam launch path and current default compatibility configuration. Mojang does not require a custom Proton build, launch option or manual file change.
- Test text entry as well as gameplay. If the game launches but you cannot enter text, the on-screen keyboard may be affected. Use available keyboard controls if needed and check later game updates for improvements.
Trying it on desktop Linux
The Steam Deck update is encouraging, but it is not evidence that every desktop Linux setup works. An early Proton issue report described the game requesting Gaming Services and then opening without a visible window under Proton Experimental. That report dates from the launch period, so it documents an initial symptom rather than proving that the updated game still fails.

- Do not assume that a Proton version or launch option suggested for one machine is an official requirement. Mojang has not published a desktop Linux recipe.
- Avoid unofficial DLL replacements and community scripts as routine setup steps. Launch-period workarounds are not validated by Mojang’s later update.
If login or account linking fails
In a September 30, 2026 developer post, Mojang said most backend login and account-linking issues had been resolved and asked affected players to try again. It also said hotfixes were in progress for crashes and stability. This was a dated launch update, not a guarantee that every account problem is fixed.
