Infuse plays and organizes media you already have; it does not provide a film or TV library. The right setup depends on where your files live and whether you need remote access, server-based library management, or household profiles.
What to prepare before setting up Infuse
Infuse is available for Apple TV, iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Vision. Check the current operating-system and device requirements for the platform you plan to use, because they vary. Before connecting a network source, identify where your files are and have the server or share address and authorized account details ready. Exact fields and navigation can differ by device and app version.

- Local files: files stored on the Apple device or transferred to it.
- Computer or NAS: a shared folder reached over your network.
- Media server: an existing Plex, Emby, or Jellyfin setup.
- Cloud source: a cloud service supported by Infuse.
A NAS is optional: an existing computer or media server may already be enough. Infuse runs on Apple devices beyond Apple TV, so a television box is not required if you intend to watch on an iPhone, iPad, Mac, or Vision.

Firecore lists network protocols including SMB, NFS, FTP, and WebDAV, as well as Plex, Emby, and Jellyfin connections. See the Infuse feature and platform page for the current supported-source information. Infuse can connect directly to shared files, so you do not need to install a media server solely to use the app.

How to add a network share to Infuse
For a computer or NAS share, the files stay on that storage device; Infuse connects to them over the network. Set up sharing and permissions on the computer or NAS first, then add the source in Infuse using the appropriate protocol and your valid connection details. The precise labels and screens depend on whether you are using Apple TV, iOS or iPadOS, macOS, or Vision, so follow the current in-app prompts rather than assuming one universal tap sequence.
- Prepare the storage device. Enable sharing for the folders you want Infuse to read and ensure the account you will use has access.
- Open the source-adding controls in Infuse. Choose the network-share or media-server option appropriate to your existing setup.
- Select the protocol and enter the connection details. Use the address and authorized credentials for your share; available fields vary by source and app version.
- Open a known file. Confirm that the source is reachable before organizing a large library or troubleshooting a particular title.
Infuse 8.4.8 added primary and secondary addresses for regular shares and supported media servers. When both endpoints are enabled, Infuse attempts them in order until one connects, which can help when the same source has different home and away addresses. This feature does not configure or secure remote access for you; that remains a responsibility of your network and server setup. Details are in Firecore’s release notes.
Connect Plex, Emby, or Jellyfin
If you already run Plex, Emby, or Jellyfin, add that service as a source in Infuse and authorize the connection as prompted. This lets Infuse access the server’s media without requiring you to rebuild the collection as a direct share. If you do not use a media server, connecting a supported share directly is a valid alternative.

When transcoding may help
Infuse 8.5 added transcoding options for Plex, Emby, and Jellyfin. These can request an optimized stream when direct playback of the original is not ideal, such as remote viewing on a slower connection or streaming a high-bitrate video away from home. Transcoding relies on the server and its configuration, so it is not a guaranteed fix for buffering. Firecore describes the feature in its release notes.
Organize the library and fix incorrect matches
Infuse can retrieve metadata and artwork for movie and television libraries, including cast information, ratings, and trailers. Firecore identifies TMDB as its metadata source on the product feature page. Clear, recognizable movie and episode filenames help you identify and organize a collection, but Firecore’s cited feature information does not prescribe one complete naming convention.
If a title is matched to the wrong movie or episode, use Infuse’s current metadata-editing controls to correct the match. The exact control labels can change by platform and app version; consult the Firecore support guide for current instructions.

Test playback, then decide whether Pro fits
After adding a source, try a file you know well. Check picture and sound, subtitles, seeking, and remote playback if you plan to watch away from home. This is a practical setup check, not a guarantee that every file or playback chain will behave identically.
Firecore describes broad file-format support, HDR formats, and Dolby Vision on compatible hardware. Its feature page also describes Dolby Atmos E-AC3 passthrough with a compatible receiver. What you actually see and hear depends on the source file and the full playback chain, including the device and connected audio equipment.
Infuse is free to download. Firecore lists Pro capabilities including additional video formats, lossless HD audio, AirPlay and Google Cast, Dolby Vision and Atmos, trailers, advanced iCloud library sync, and cloud streaming. Profiles and syncing for a household
On Apple TV, Infuse 8.2 introduced separate user profiles with custom home layouts, network shares, watched history, ratings, parental controls, and Trakt accounts. Firecore says profiles can also be linked to individual iCloud accounts. The announcement was published July 22, 2025; see Firecore’s Infuse 8.2 announcement.
Firecore describes iCloud syncing of metadata, library settings, and server connections. Its Pro feature list separately identifies advanced syncing for libraries, playback progress, and watched history. Check the current feature listing to determine which sync behavior is included in the version and plan you use.

Troubleshoot remote buffering
- Confirm whether playback works at home. If the same file plays locally but buffers remotely, the issue may involve the remote connection, server, or available bandwidth rather than the library match.
- Try an optimized stream where supported. For Plex, Emby, or Jellyfin, Infuse’s transcoding options may help when the original file’s bitrate is too demanding for the remote connection. Server-side configuration and capacity matter.
- Check the remote address. Infuse 8.4.8 supports primary and secondary addresses for regular shares and supported media servers, attempted in order when enabled. You still need to configure remote access securely on your own network and server.
- Test another file. Comparing a known lower-bitrate file with the problematic one can help distinguish a source-specific or bandwidth-related problem from a general connection failure.
