To use FramePort, install its desktop app, connect your computer and Steam Frame to the same network, run FramePort’s one-time setup command in the headset’s Konsole, then add your own game files and install a compatible title. FramePort is independent community software—not a Valve feature—and compatibility varies by game.
What FramePort does—and what you need
FramePort transfers user-supplied Quest APKs and other supported game files to Steam Frame, applies title-specific compatibility patches, and can add shortcuts to the Steam Library. The FramePort project says it “explicitly does NOT download, share, or unlock games”; you must provide legally obtained game files yourself. Valve describes Steam Frame as a standalone SteamOS headset and documents Android APK support through Lepton, alongside other software execution models. That platform support helps explain why Android-based Quest apps may be relevant, but it does not mean every Quest title works or that Valve endorses FramePort. Set up FramePort
- Download and extract FramePort. Get the desktop archive for your computer’s operating system from the project’s latest release and extract it. Open the extracted app.
- Connect the devices. Put your computer and Steam Frame on the same network. In FramePort, open the Steam Frame page and choose Show setup command.
- Open Konsole on Steam Frame. In the headset, open the SteamVR dashboard and select Launch a program → Desktop. On the desktop, open the app menu and go to System → Konsole.
- Run the displayed command. Enter the exact command shown in FramePort. You can type it with the on-screen keyboard or a separate keyboard. Follow any prompt to install Lepton. The project says Steam restarts once during setup and FramePort should connect automatically within about a minute.
- Add your game files. In FramePort, add or scan the folder containing your game backups.
- Install and launch a title. Select a game in FramePort, choose Install on Frame, then launch it from the headset’s Steam Library.
Understand the setup changes
FramePort’s setup documentation says the command enables Developer Mode using Valve’s helper, adds FramePort’s SSH key, and may prompt you to install Lepton. The command is served locally by FramePort; according to the project, the Frame connects to the computer to download the setup script only during this initial step. These are meaningful system changes, not a Valve-approved consumer workflow. Review the project’s current setup and undo documentation before proceeding. It documents how to disable Developer Mode, remove the key, and uninstall FramePort.
Check whether your Quest game works
Compatibility is title-specific. FramePort’s project-maintained catalog classifies tested titles as working, working with known issues, or not running. At the time the catalog was retrieved on October 4, 2026, examples marked working included Asgard’s Wrath 2 and Batman: Arkham Shadow; Arcsmith and Assassin’s Creed Nexus were listed as working with issues; Espire 1: VR Operative (Quest Edition) and Journey of the Gods were listed as not running. These are FramePort’s reported results, not Valve certifications or independent test results. Check the current tested-games catalog for your exact title.

An unlisted game may still work, but FramePort may only be able to suggest patches for it. Its compatibility documentation also notes that automated launch checks can establish whether a game starts, while visual behavior must be checked in the headset. A title that launches can still have visual, control, or other issues, so assess the actual headset experience.

- FramePort does not connect: confirm the computer and headset are on the same network, keep FramePort open, and rerun the exact command displayed on its Steam Frame page. Allow about a minute for the automatic connection described in the guide.
- You cannot enter the command easily: use the headset’s on-screen keyboard or connect a USB or Bluetooth keyboard; a separate keyboard is not required by the guide.
- A game is missing or does not install: confirm that you added the folder containing your own game files, then check the title’s entry in the current compatibility catalog.
- A game installs but behaves incorrectly: check its catalog notes and test visuals and controls in the headset. A successful launch alone does not establish that the whole experience works correctly.
The project’s community launch post acknowledges that it cannot test every app and invites reports; discussion posts also include individual reports of connection or authentication friction. Those reports are not evidence of a general failure rate. FramePort community launch post
