How to reserve a Kansas state park campsite
- Choose a park, dates, and site. Start with KDWP’s campsite and cabin reservation information and follow its official booking options, including CampItKS and ReserveAmerica. Search your exact dates and site type. Not every site is reservable; some are first come, first served.
- Review the date-specific terms before paying. Availability windows and seasonal rules may differ by park and date. KDWP’s general terms page describes booking lead times and seasonal availability, but its older April–September wording may not match the live 2026 system. Use the live portal’s terms and availability for your stay, or contact the park office if anything is unclear.
- Check the itemized total and pay. KDWP says reservations are paid in full when made. Online or phone reservations are paid by credit card. A park office may accept a card or cash and, with approval, a check or money order. Review the checkout breakdown rather than assuming the nightly camping fee includes every charge.
- Save the confirmation and plan your arrival. General reservation terms list campsite check-in and check-out at 2 p.m., one camping unit per site, and possible cancellation if you have not arrived within 48 hours unless you have made prior arrangements. They also list a two-night weekend minimum including Friday and Saturday, and a four-night campsite minimum for holidays. Confirm the terms shown for your specific reservation.
What fees to include in your budget
KDWP requires both a valid vehicle permit for entry to a Kansas state park and a camping permit for an overnight stay. A campsite reservation does not replace the vehicle permit: KDWP sells vehicle permits separately from campsite reservations. Permit prices and eligibility depend on the applicable category, so check the official Kansas State Park entrance and camping fee schedule before travel.

The camping fee is charged per camping unit, not simply per reservation. Separate tents or other camping units can therefore affect the total. KDWP also lists a $2.75 processing fee per camping stay. The campsite reservation charge is distinct from the per-night camping rate; check the booking flow to see the reservation charge and full amount due.

How to estimate the total for your stay
Use the portal’s itemized checkout total as the final reference. To check whether you have accounted for the main components, work through this list:
- Count the nights and camping units; the listed camping charge is per unit.
- Add the required vehicle permit, checking its current price and eligibility separately.
- Include utilities if your chosen site has hookups, and a prime-site fee if the site and dates qualify.
- Account for the $2.75 processing fee per camping stay and any separate campsite reservation charge displayed at checkout.
- Use the rate schedule effective on your dates, especially for stays on or after November 1, 2026.
For example, a one-unit stay with a utility hookup may include a nightly camping charge plus the applicable nightly utility amount, as well as the processing fee, vehicle permit, and any reservation charge. The exact total cannot be determined from the nightly camping rate alone; site choice, dates, permits, and checkout charges matter.

Cancellation, changes, and arrival rules
KDWP’s general reservation terms and conditions describe these campsite cancellation charges. Confirm the terms presented when booking, since transaction details may change:
| When you cancel before arrival | General terms state |
|---|---|
| 0–2 days | No campsite refund for cancellation or no-show |
| 3–14 days | Loss of reservation fee, one night’s fees, and $5 |
| 15 or more days | Loss of reservation fee plus $5 |
| Change, reschedule, or shortened stay | $5 charge per the terms page |
Those same general terms may not answer every park- or date-specific question. Check the confirmation and live terms, and contact the relevant park office about arrival arrangements or a rule that appears inconsistent with your dates.

Check that the reservation is legitimate
Book through KDWP’s official channels rather than relying on an unofficial seller. KDWP reproduces Kansas Administrative Regulation 115-8-19 on its fee page: “no person shall advertise, engage in, or solicit any business, or make a charge for any event or service except as authorized by the department” on department lands and waters. If a seller claims to offer a reservation outside the authorized system, verify it with KDWP or the park before paying.
