Check which USB connector your computer or other host accepts, then choose a compatible USB-C or USB-A connection. Connect the drive and check that it appears
- Connect the T9 directly to a compatible USB port, if possible.
- Open your operating system’s file browser and check whether the drive appears. If it does not, try another compatible data cable or port, then look in the operating system’s disk utility or device manager.
- Do not format the drive simply because it is not visible in the file browser. Check whether the operating system detects it, and confirm that it is empty or that anything important has been backed up before taking a destructive action.
Samsung notes that some operating systems may require reformatting. Formatting can erase data, so treat it as a last step after checking the drive’s contents and backing up files. The T9 uses USB 3.2 Gen 2×2, an interface rated at 20 Gbps. On its cited US 1 TB listing, Samsung specifies sequential speeds of up to 2,000 MB/s read and 1,950 MB/s write. These are manufacturer maximums, not guaranteed everyday speeds or independent test results; performance depends on the host, port, cable, workload, and UASP support. If the drive seems slower than expected, check the host’s USB port specifications and confirm that the cable and port support the connection you intend to use. The interface’s 20 Gbps figure is not a file-transfer speed in MB/s; host compatibility and the kind of work being transferred affect actual results.
Use Samsung Magician for drive management
Samsung identifies Magician as the software for drive management, health monitoring, and firmware updates. Its support page offers installers for multiple platforms; check the current download and requirements for your operating system rather than relying on an old installer version. Samsung’s UK listing gives minimum requirements of Windows 7 or later, macOS High Sierra 10.13.6 or later, and Android 5.1 or later, while warning that older systems may not be supported. Choose whether to enable password protection
The T9 offers an optional password feature using AES 256-bit encryption, according to Samsung. It can be useful for sensitive files, but it also means you must protect the password: Samsung’s installation guide warns that forgotten-password data cannot be accessed. Save the password in a password manager or another secure place, and keep a separate backup of important files. The cited Samsung sources do not establish a password-recovery method, so do not assume the data can be restored if the password is lost. Eject the drive and protect your files
Before unplugging the T9, use your operating system’s safe-eject process, especially if files are being copied or written. Keep another copy of important files on a separate device or backup service.
