|---|---|---|
| App | Current Roomba Home App | The app adds the robot, handles Wi-Fi setup and creates the map. |
| Phone | iOS 17 or later, or Android 11.0 or later | These are the operating-system versions listed in iRobot’s setup guidance. |
| Account | An iRobot account and a valid email address | The robot must be paired with an iRobot Home account for setup and map features. |
| Wi-Fi | 2.4 GHz; 5 GHz is not supported for the Roomba 100/1000 series | The robot must be able to see the network selected in the app. |
| Phone permissions | Bluetooth, location services (including Precise Location when requested), and network access | The app uses these permissions to discover and configure the nearby robot. |
| Dock and power | A powered dock on a level, unobstructed surface near the router | The robot begins and ends mapping at its dock and needs a reliable wireless connection. |
| Mapping conditions | Open doors, cleared floors, and lights on or window shades open | ClearView navigation needs visible, accessible rooms. |
Tablet setup is no longer supported according to the setup article, so use a compatible phone. The exact Roomba 105 Vac and Roomba 105 Combo are identified by iRobot as Wi-Fi-connected floor-cleaning robots under regulatory model RCC-Y2 in a declaration dated March 27, 2025: iRobot’s UKCA declaration.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Step 1: Prepare the robot, dock and phone
Unpack and position the dock
- Remove the robot and dock from their packaging.
- Take off the bumper guards and all protective film. Packaging left on the bumper can interfere with movement or sensing.
- Place the dock on a level surface with clear space around it. Keep it close enough to the router for dependable Wi-Fi and connect it to power.
- Set the robot on the dock and confirm that it is charging before trying to add it in the app.
Do not begin mapping with the dock balanced on an uneven surface or tucked behind objects. The dock is the robot’s reference point for the map, and the robot needs to return there when exploration ends.

Install the app and create or sign in to an account
- Install or update the Roomba Home App on a compatible phone.
- Open the app. Existing owners can enter their iRobot account credentials; new owners should create an account using a valid email address.
- Accept the Bluetooth, location and network permissions requested by the app. If Android or iOS offers a Precise Location option, enable it for setup.
- Connect the phone to the home network you intend the robot to use. For this series, that must be the 2.4 GHz band, not 5 GHz.
If your router combines both bands under one network name, temporarily connect the phone to the router’s 2.4 GHz network or use the router’s band-selection controls so the app can pass a compatible network to the robot.
Step 2: Add the Roomba 105 and connect Wi-Fi
- On the app’s home screen, choose Add a New Product.
- When the app discovers a nearby robot, select Set Up. If it does not find one, follow the model-specific instructions displayed by the app rather than selecting a different model.
- Select the Wi-Fi network that the robot can detect. Choose the 2.4 GHz network and enter its password.
- When prompted, press the robot’s power button. This confirms which nearby robot should receive the connection details.
- Remain in the app while discovery and connection finish. Leaving the setup flow early can stop the hand-off between phone and robot.
- Give the robot a name when the app asks.
Most robots need a software update before they are ready for normal use. Allow the update to complete in the app before starting a map. Keep the robot on its powered dock during this process.
When initial setup does not complete
The app cannot find the robot
- Keep the app open on its nearby-product search instead of switching to another screen.
- Confirm that Bluetooth and location permissions are enabled for the Roomba Home App.
- Verify that the phone is connected to the intended 2.4 GHz home network.
- Make sure the robot is awake on its powered dock and close enough to the phone for discovery.
- Restart the robot or router and try the discovery process again. iRobot also suggests trying another phone or another network when the original combination continues to fail.
The password is rejected or the connection errors
Type the Wi-Fi password manually rather than relying on a saved value. Check the network name and password for characters the app does not support; iRobot notes that unsupported special characters can cause setup errors. The phone and robot must be using the same network during setup, and the phone must be on 2.4 GHz.
After a successful setup, Wi-Fi can be changed from Product Settings > Wi-Fi Settings > Reconnect or Change Product Wi-Fi. Use that path instead of deleting the product whenever the robot simply needs new network credentials.

Step 3: Prepare the home for a ClearView LiDAR map
The Roomba 105 is part of the Roomba 100/1000 series included in iRobot’s ClearView LiDAR map support guidance. Map features require an iRobot Home account, a current app and current robot software, and availability can vary by region. The complete preparation and mapping behavior is described in iRobot’s Guide to ClearView LiDAR Maps.
Remove obstacles and snag hazards
- Pick up charging cables, extension cords, shoelaces and loose objects that could catch in the rollers.
- Clear small items from the floor so the robot can pass through rooms rather than stopping repeatedly.
- Open every door to a room or hallway you want included. Leave those doors open for the entire mapping run.
- Keep crowded corners and other areas that should not be entered clear enough for you to add a Keep Out Zone later; do not rely on a partially blocked doorway to define the map.
Provide enough light
Turn on room lights or open window shades throughout the area being mapped. iRobot states: Lighting is necessary for the robot to navigate.
Mapping is not a suitable time to leave rooms dark, even if those rooms normally use little light.
Leave the dock and robot in a fixed position
Start with the robot on its dock and do not relocate either the robot or dock once mapping begins. Moving the reference point can produce an incomplete or unreliable map. Keep people and pets from pressing buttons or carrying the robot during the run.

Step 4: Start and monitor the first map
- Open the Roomba Home App home screen.
- Select Create a Map.
- Confirm that doors are open, cords are removed and lights are on, then start the mapping run.
- Let the robot explore without intervention. During this run it focuses on mapping and does not clean.
- Allow it to enter the available rooms and return to the dock on its own. It avoids stairs and other drop-offs.
- Wait for the app to finish saving the map after the robot docks. Saving can take a few additional minutes.
iRobot gives an operational estimate of up to 30 minutes for ClearView map creation, depending on home size. The robot may return to the dock to recharge between rooms before continuing. A larger or more interrupted space can therefore take longer in elapsed time than a small, open floor.

Do not pick up the robot, move the dock, press its buttons or end the run while it is exploring. iRobot warns that interruption can leave an incomplete map. If the robot appears to pause, allow time for navigation or charging rather than assuming that it has failed.
If the first map is incomplete
An incomplete map commonly means that a door was closed, a cable stopped the robot, lighting was insufficient, or the robot or dock was moved. Correct the physical conditions before trying again.
- Return the robot to its dock and make sure the dock is powered and level.
- Reopen every intended doorway.
- Remove cords, shoelaces and floor clutter that could stop the rollers or block a route.
- Turn on lights or open shades in all rooms to be explored.
- Start Create a Map again from the app home screen.
- Leave the robot and dock untouched until the robot has returned and the app has finished saving.
Rerunning the map after fixing access and lighting is preferable to trying to edit around a missing room. Room edits apply to the saved map; they cannot make the robot discover a space it never explored.

Step 5: Review and customize the saved map
Accept or edit the automatic layout
When the first map is ready, the app prompts you to review it. Roomba automatically creates and names rooms, and the map initially uses the name Main Floor. If the boundaries and labels look correct, you can skip customization and use the map as created.

If the layout needs correction, the available tools let you rename the map, rename rooms, merge neighboring rooms, split rooms, rotate the map and add zones. Make edits while viewing the map in the app so each room boundary corresponds to a real, accessible part of your floor.
Rename the map and rooms
Use names that distinguish floors and rooms at a glance, such as a floor name followed by the actual room names used in your home. Rename an automatically generated room when its label is ambiguous or does not match how you refer to that space. Clear names make later room-selection, favorite and schedule choices easier to verify.
Merge neighboring rooms
Merge two adjacent areas when the app divided one practical room into multiple labels. Select the neighboring rooms in the map editor and apply the merge command shown by the app. After a merge, check the room’s cleaning settings: iRobot says merging rooms resets their cleaning settings to defaults.

Split a room when one automatically detected area needs separate cleaning control, such as a large open plan that you want to treat as two zones. Follow the app’s split tool to draw or place the dividing boundary, then save the edit. Splitting also resets the affected rooms’ cleaning settings to defaults, so review those settings before using a favorite or schedule.

Rotate the map
Rotate the map if its on-screen orientation makes rooms difficult to recognize. Rotation changes the display orientation, not the physical position of the dock or the rooms themselves.
Add Keep Out Zones
Use a Keep Out Zone to mark an area the robot should avoid. Typical examples include a corner with tangled wires, a location where floor objects cannot be cleared reliably, or a crowded area that should not be entered. Place the zone over the actual area shown on the saved map and check its edges before saving.
Add Clean Zones
A Clean Zone identifies a target area for a cleaning job, favorite or schedule. Use one when you want a repeatable part of a room cleaned without selecting the entire room. Confirm that the zone sits inside the intended mapped boundaries; a zone cannot compensate for a room that was never mapped.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteUse the map without losing your settings
Before creating favorites or schedules, verify the room names, merged or split boundaries and any Keep Out or Clean Zones. If you later merge or split rooms, the affected cleaning settings return to defaults, so those settings must be reviewed again after the structural edit. This reset applies to the room settings, not to the need to remap the home.
Keep the dock in the position used for mapping and avoid casually moving it to another room. If the home’s access changes, open the relevant doors and remove new floor hazards before the next map or cleaning run.
Diagnostic checklist
| Symptom | Check first | Next action |
|---|---|---|
| Robot is not found during Add a New Product | Bluetooth, location permissions, phone network, robot on powered dock | Keep the app on its nearby search; reboot the robot or router, then try another phone or network if necessary. |
| Wi-Fi password or connection error | 2.4 GHz band, manually entered password, supported network-name and password characters | Correct the credentials and repeat setup. After setup, use Product Settings > Wi-Fi Settings > Reconnect or Change Product Wi-Fi for a network change. |
| A room is missing from the map | Door open, floor clear, lighting adequate | Correct the room conditions and run Create a Map again without moving the robot or dock. |
| Map run stops or saves incomplete | Robot or dock moved, button pressed, snag hazard, low access | Return the robot to the dock, restore access and lighting, then rerun mapping and allow the save process to finish. |
| Room cleaning behavior changed after editing | Room was merged or split | Review and restore the room’s cleaning settings because those edits reset them to defaults. |
Factory reset: use only as a last resort
A factory reset is not a routine Wi-Fi fix. The Roomba 105 offline FAQ says it deletes maps, cleaning history, favorites, schedules and personalized settings; after setup, the robot must learn the home again. Try correcting the network, permissions or physical mapping conditions first. If a reset is unavoidable, expect to repeat account setup and the complete mapping process. See iRobot’s Roomba 105 offline FAQ for the reset procedure and its current warnings.
