Before adjusting the Steam Frame, check Valve’s published fit specifications: its stated IPD target range is 60–70 mm, and its maximum glasses width is 140 mm. Those figures are useful screening checks, not a guarantee of clear vision or comfort. Valve describes the headset as balanced from front to rear and says its headstrap is modular, but the available product information does not give a consumer adjustment sequence. Follow the current prompts in the headset or Valve’s support guidance for the actual fitting procedure.
Check your IPD and glasses before putting on the headset
Valve lists Steam Frame’s IPD target range as 60–70 mm. IPD, or interpupillary distance, is the distance between the centers of your pupils. Compare your measured IPD with that range as an initial check; being within it does not guarantee that the image will look clear or that the headset will feel comfortable for you.

Valve also lists a maximum glasses width of 140 mm. Treat this as a preliminary clearance check rather than a guarantee that every frame shape or prescription will fit. The product page does not establish compatibility for every eyewear design.

| IPD | 60–70 mm target range, per Valve’s Steam Frame product page | A screening reference for your measured IPD, not individualized fit advice. |
| Glasses width | 140 mm maximum, per Valve’s Steam Frame product page | A preliminary clearance check; frame shape and prescription may affect fit. |
Use Valve’s current instructions for the adjustment sequence
Valve says the headset is lightweight and compact, with its weight balanced front to rear for a comfortable experience. It also specifies a modular headstrap, and says the core module can be separated to support other headstrap solutions. These are design features, not instructions for how tightly to secure the headset or where to position it.

The product information does not explain a detailed consumer fitting sequence, including which strap or control to adjust first, how to set IPD, or how to use any spacer or facial interface. Use the prompts in the headset or consult Valve’s current support guidance rather than assuming an adjustment method.
Valve’s Steamworks Steam Frame setup documentation is for development units, including powering on and initial update steps. It is not an ergonomic guide for adjusting a consumer headset.

If you need prescription correction
Valve lists prescription inserts by Zenni among Steam Frame accessories and says products carrying its “Steam Frame Compatible” mark have been tested to work with Steam Frame. That makes the named inserts an option to investigate if you need correction while using the headset. The product information cited here does not establish prescription ranges, price, delivery availability, or universal fit.

If you wear glasses instead, compare their width with Valve’s stated maximum and assess their actual clearance carefully; the number alone cannot confirm that a particular frame will fit comfortably.

Assess comfort in use
The IPD and glasses-width figures help you decide what to check before setup, while Valve’s description identifies the headset’s balance and modular strap design. Neither substitutes for trying the headset and following its current fitting prompts. If you cannot obtain a clear, comfortable fit, do not treat the published dimensions as proof that the headset is adjusted correctly; consult Valve’s current support guidance.
