To set up a Fire TV Cube, connect it to your TV’s HDMI port and power, select that HDMI input, then follow the on-screen prompts to join Wi-Fi or use Ethernet and register the device to your Amazon account. You’ll need a separate high-speed HDMI cable; Amazon does not list one among the included items.
What you need before setup
- Fire TV Cube and its power adapter and cable
- Alexa Voice Remote with the included AAA batteries
- A TV with a free HDMI port
- A high-speed HDMI cable, which Amazon says is not included
- Internet access and, if using Wi-Fi, your network name and password
- An Amazon account and its sign-in details
Amazon lists the Cube, Alexa Voice Remote, power cable, power adapter, and AAA remote batteries as in-box items. Its Fire TV Cube setup guide covers the connection and registration process.

Connect the Cube and start it
- Insert the AAA batteries into the remote.
- Place the Cube about 1 ft (30 cm) from speakers, with its ports facing away from you. Do not put the Cube itself in a closed cabinet; it needs to hear voice commands.
- Connect the power adapter to the Cube and a power outlet.
- Connect a high-speed HDMI cable between the TV and the Cube’s HDMI OUT port.
- Turn on the TV. With the TV remote, select the HDMI input you used for the Cube.
The Fire TV setup screen should appear. If it does not, check that the TV is on the correct HDMI input and that both ends of the HDMI cable are seated.
Pair the remote, connect to the internet, and register
- Follow the on-screen instructions to pair the remote. If it does not pair automatically, hold its Home button until the pairing prompt appears; Amazon says this can take about 10 seconds.
- Choose Wi-Fi and connect using the on-screen QR-code flow with a phone or select your network and enter its password with the remote. If you prefer a wired connection and have an Ethernet path available, use Ethernet instead.
- Sign in or register the Cube to an Amazon account. You can scan the on-screen QR code or enter the displayed activation code at amazon.com/code.
- Continue through the remaining prompts, including any questions about controlling connected equipment such as a soundbar.
For Wi-Fi connection problems, follow Amazon’s Fire TV Wi-Fi troubleshooting guidance. If you cannot sign in, use Amazon’s password recovery process. For a passwordless account, Amazon says to press Back when prompted and use the on-screen verification flow.

Optional: configure connected equipment
Control a cable or satellite box connected to the TV
If your set-top box connects to the TV rather than directly to the Cube, use the remote to open Settings > Equipment Control > Manage Equipment > Add Equipment > Live TV > Set-top box. Choose Cable or Satellite, select your provider, switch the TV to a live channel, and follow the prompts. Amazon’s set-top box instructions say choosing “Provider not listed” exits that setup flow.
Connect a set-top box to the Cube’s HDMI IN (3rd-generation Cube)
This branch is specifically for the 3rd-generation Cube. Connect the box to the Cube’s HDMI IN port using a high-speed HDMI cable rated at 18 Gbps or higher; Amazon also requires the box and Cube to have line of sight. Open Inputs and select the HDMI tile, then follow the connection test and on-screen prompts. See Amazon’s HDMI IN instructions.

Use the Cube with equipment in a closed cabinet
Keep the Cube outside the closed cabinet so it can hear voice commands. If the Cube needs to control equipment inside, Amazon describes an optional, separately sold IR extender that can be placed on the same shelf as that equipment.

Set up Alexa Home Theater (3rd-generation Cube)
This optional setup requires a 3rd-generation Cube, a compatible Echo device, and a TV with HDMI ARC. Connect the Cube’s HDMI cable to the TV port labeled ARC, then enable HDMI ARC in the TV settings; HDMI CEC may also need to be enabled. TV audio menus vary, so check compatibility and the instructions for your TV and Echo. Amazon’s Alexa Home Theater ARC instructions list the compatible setup.

Check your Cube generation before using model-specific steps
Amazon identifies Fire TV Cube generations as 1st generation (2018), 2nd generation (2019), and 3rd generation (2022) on its device specifications page. The HDMI IN set-top-box steps and ARC Home Theater instructions above are supported for the 3rd-generation model; do not assume other generations have the same hardware or setup options. Check the model or generation printed on the Cube or its packaging.

- No setup screen: Confirm the TV is set to the HDMI input connected to the Cube and check the HDMI and power connections.
- Remote will not pair: Hold Home until the pairing prompt appears, about 10 seconds.
- Wi-Fi network missing or connection fails: Try the on-screen network selection again or use Ethernet, and consult Amazon’s Wi-Fi troubleshooting page.
- Account sign-in fails: Recover the password or, for a passwordless account, press Back at the prompt and complete on-screen verification.
A default payment method may be required to download apps or games. That is an app-download condition, not a requirement for connecting and registering the Cube.
