That is an always-on setup, not a guarantee of uninterrupted service: a power cut, network failure, encoder problem, or YouTube interruption can stop it.
Before you start, make sure the music is cleared for live rebroadcast, test the complete setup privately, and decide whether you need a local recording. YouTube may not archive streams longer than 12 hours.
What you need before starting
- A YouTube channel that is verified and has no live-streaming restriction within the previous 90 days. First-time live-streaming enablement can take up to 24 hours, so set it up well before your planned start.
- A PC that can encode your chosen resolution and frame rate, OBS Studio, and an internet connection with enough stable upload capacity for the stream you configure.
- Music you own or have documented rights to stream publicly on YouTube, plus any required Content ID allowlisting from the rights holder.
- A visual to accompany the audio, such as artwork or a visualizer you created or are cleared to use.
YouTube and OBS do not establish an India-specific upload-speed minimum or a power-backup requirement for this workflow. Check the connection and power at the actual streaming location, then rehearse rather than relying on a generic number.
Set up YouTube Live and OBS
1. Enable live streaming on the channel
Sign in to the YouTube channel you will use and complete channel verification. Confirm that live streaming is available and that the channel has no live-streaming restriction in the preceding 90 days. If this is the channel’s first live stream, allow up to 24 hours for enablement to take effect. YouTube’s encoder setup guide describes the prerequisites and workflow.

2. Install OBS and choose a starting configuration
Install OBS Studio, then run its Auto-Configuration Wizard to get an initial setup suited to your PC. Treat that as a starting point, not proof that the machine can run indefinitely: OBS notes that performance depends on the encoder, resolution, frame rate, and scene complexity. Its Windows system requirements page lists Windows 10/11 and a DirectX 10.1-compatible GPU as basic requirements; meeting minimum requirements does not guarantee good performance.
Choose a resolution and frame rate your PC can encode reliably. There is no universal bitrate or upload-speed figure established for every Indian ISP, PC, or stream quality. Use YouTube’s current encoder guidance and the OBS wizard, then confirm stream health during a private rehearsal. If the encoder struggles, reduce resolution, frame rate, or scene complexity and test again.

3. Create or schedule the stream and add its credentials to OBS
- In YouTube Studio, select Create → Go Live, then create or schedule a stream in Live Control Room.
- From the stream setup view, copy the server URL and stream key.
- In OBS, open the streaming settings and enter the server URL and stream key. The labels and exact layout can vary with software version.
- Keep the stream key private. Do not include it in screenshots, on-screen graphics, or a public recording. If it is exposed, replace or reset it in YouTube Studio before streaming again.
YouTube describes an encoder as software that converts video into a digital format for streaming. Its encoder guide walks through connecting an encoder to a stream.
4. Build a simple audio-and-visual scene
Add the intended music source and a visual you have permission to use. Before going live, check OBS’s audio mix meters and listen to the output from another device so you know the stream contains the intended sound. Audio routing depends on the computer and audio device; do not assume that a source is captured merely because it plays locally. Keep the scene simple until the complete stream is stable.

5. Rehearse privately, then go live
- Set the YouTube stream’s visibility to unlisted or private for the rehearsal.
- Start streaming from OBS and watch the preview in Live Control Room. Check audio, picture, stream health, and whether the stream stays connected.
- Monitor the stream on a second device, preferably on a different connection, to check what viewers actually receive.
- For the public launch, verify the PC will not sleep or shut down, keep the network connection active, and monitor Live Control Room. These are practical local checks, not guarantees against outages.
- When ready, set the stream’s intended visibility and use YouTube Studio’s controls to take it live.
YouTube for Artists recommends an unlisted test before a high-investment production; that is a sensible rehearsal for a continuous music stream too. See its guidance for music channels.
Clear the music rights before broadcasting
YouTube scans live broadcasts for third-party content. A match can cause the live video to be replaced or the broadcast to be interrupted or terminated. A personal subscription to a music service should not be treated as permission to rebroadcast its catalogue.

Use music you created or music for which the relevant public streaming and broadcast rights are clear and documented. For licensed third-party music, the rights holder may need to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist before you go live. YouTube for Artists advises music channels to coordinate with their label or distributor when using copyright-protected music. These are YouTube platform considerations, not India-specific legal advice; confirm rights that apply to your situation separately.

Plan for power, internet and replays
Keep the PC and connection available
A PC-based encoder depends on local hardware, power, and internet. Check sleep settings and observe the actual upload connection during the rehearsal and intended operating hours. A desktop UPS is optional and can provide finite backup for connected equipment during a brief power interruption, but it cannot fix an internet outage or guarantee an all-night stream. Select one based on the connected load and runtime you need; no particular capacity is established here.
Do not rely on YouTube to archive a very long stream
YouTube may automatically archive streams shorter than 12 hours, but streams exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. If a replay matters, record a local archive where your PC has sufficient storage, and consider ending and restarting the stream periodically rather than depending on one broadcast lasting beyond 12 hours. YouTube explains the limit in its live-stream archive guidance.
Troubleshoot common failures
