YouTube Audio Library tracks are the clearest platform-focused option. Make a short test stream and check its replay before relying on the setup: live scanning and post-stream Content ID claims are separate risks.
Choose music that is cleared for the live stream and replay
Decide on the track before you go live. Permission to use music in an edited video does not necessarily cover a livestream, its archive, monetization, or every territory.
YouTube Audio Library
In YouTube Studio, open Audio Library and search or filter by genre, mood, duration, and attribution requirements. YouTube says music downloaded from the Audio Library is copyright-safe on YouTube and will not be claimed through Content ID. If a track has a Creative Commons license requiring attribution, copy the credit shown in Studio into your video description. YouTube Help: Use music and sound effects from the Audio Library.
Creator Music
Creator Music use is governed by the terms displayed for each track. As of October 3, 2026, YouTube says the service is available to U.S. creators in the YouTube Partner Program, with expansion outside the U.S. pending. Its FAQ says Creator Music does not support licensing for live content, so do not assume a Creator Music video license covers a live gaming stream or its replay. Third-party tracks and game soundtracks
For music from another provider or a track you bought, read the written license. Confirm that it expressly permits livestreaming and the resulting archived video, and check monetization, territory, duration, and attribution requirements. Keep the license or other proof of permission. A “free” label or a credit in the description does not establish those rights; YouTube warns that music labeled free online can still be flagged by Content ID. YouTube Help: Tips to find safe music.
This guidance does not establish permission for any particular game soundtrack. Check the game publisher’s current policy and audio settings separately; having the soundtrack in the game does not itself establish broadcast rights.

Add the music to OBS as a separate source
- Open your streaming scene in OBS. Add or select the game and microphone sources you normally use.
- Capture the music player separately. On Windows 10 version 2004 or later and Windows 11, OBS Application Audio Capture can capture a selected application. If the capture option is unavailable on your operating system, use an audio-routing method supported by your system or capture audio through the game/window source where available. - Avoid capturing the same music twice. If Application Audio Capture is handling the player, disable the global Desktop Audio source when it would also capture that player. Duplicate paths can make the music louder than intended or create echo.
- Set the balance in the Audio Mixer. Keep game sounds and voice intelligible, and lower the music source until it sits behind them. Listen to the combined mix rather than judging the music in isolation.
- Include the music in the stream mix. The music must be routed to the audio track used for the stream. For a recording intended to be published without editing, OBS advises assigning all sources to track 1: ordinary video players generally play only one audio track at a time. Separate recording tracks can help with later editing, but a music-only extra track may not be heard in the replay as expected. OBS Project: Multiple Audio Track Recording Guide.
Test the stream and archived replay
- Start a brief test stream and confirm that the live mix contains game sound, voice, and music.
- Listen for duplicated music, echo, clipping, or music that masks speech and gameplay.
- After the test ends and the archive is available, play the replay and confirm the music is present at a suitable level. Check on a separate playback device if possible.
The live mix and the archived video can behave differently when sources are assigned to separate audio tracks. A replay check catches that routing problem before a longer stream.
Know how YouTube copyright checks affect a live replay
YouTube scans livestreams for third-party content. It may interrupt or terminate a stream when it identifies such content, and an archived live video may receive a Content ID claim after the stream ends. A license from another provider does not necessarily stop an automated live interruption. YouTube says a third-party rights owner can allowlist your channel through Content ID; ask the owner about allowlisting if you have permission to use the track. Review the terms for the specific song, not just the music service. Verify live and archive rights, monetization conditions, territory and term limits, required attribution, and whether the rights holder can allowlist your channel.
If the archived replay receives a claim
In YouTube Studio, the options offered for a claimed video may include trimming the claimed segment, replacing the claimed music with Audio Library tracks, or muting the claimed song or all audio in the claimed segment. YouTube says edits saved in Studio cannot be reverted since June 2025. Preview the proposed edit carefully before saving, and retain an original local recording if you need an independent copy. Troubleshoot missing, doubled, or claimed music
