To schedule a YouTube radio stream for a local time, create a scheduled live event in YouTube Studio, then make sure an encoder sends the audio feed to that event. For recurring schedules, calculate each event’s start time from the intended named time zone and convert it to UTC; YouTube’s live-stream documentation does not establish that Studio automatically handles a recurring local-time schedule or daylight-saving changes.
What YouTube scheduling does—and what it does not
A scheduled event creates an upcoming live broadcast and a watch page that you can share. It does not supply the radio audio or start playout automation: an encoder still has to send the feed. YouTube says scheduling lets you promote the stream and may let viewers set reminders. YouTube’s live-stream setup guide describes the event workflow and encoder connection.

Keep the two jobs separate: YouTube schedules the event; your encoder or playout system supplies the audio and must be configured to start and stop as intended. Creating an event alone will not put a radio program on air.

- Confirm live-stream eligibility. Enable live streaming and check that the channel is eligible before your planned launch. YouTube says first-time activation may take up to 24 hours.
- Open the scheduling controls. In YouTube Studio, select Create > Go live, then open Manage in Live Control Room and choose Schedule stream.
- Create the event. Start a new event or reuse settings from an earlier stream. Set its title, description, thumbnail, visibility, and intended start time. Check visibility carefully: a private or unlisted event will not be publicly accessible in the same way as a public one.
- Connect the encoder. Configure it to send to this event using YouTube’s server URL and stream key. If it has a YouTube destination option, select that; otherwise enter the server URL and key in the encoder’s stream settings.
- Check the preview and start flow. Start the encoder and wait for its feed to appear in Live Control Room. Follow YouTube’s go-live flow for the event; do not assume that scheduling the event also starts the encoder.
For a first broadcast, leave time to resolve activation or connection problems. YouTube recommends setting up an encoder at least two hours ahead, starting it at least 15 minutes before the event, and monitoring stream quality continuously. Before sharing the watch page, confirm that the preview works, the event has the intended accessibility, and the audio—and video, if present—are intact. See YouTube’s encoder setup recommendations.

Set recurring events to the intended local time
For a schedule such as “weekdays at 7:00 p.m. Europe/London,” store the recurrence in the named time zone, calculate the local date and time for each occurrence, and convert that occurrence to its UTC instant before scheduling it. A named zone carries seasonal clock-change rules; a fixed offset such as UTC+0 does not. Consequently, the UTC time corresponding to 7:00 p.m. local time can change during the year.
YouTube’s Live Streaming API accepts an absolute ISO 8601 scheduled start time, not a recurring local-time rule. The scheduling software or operator must do the recurrence and time-zone conversion. The API’s example 2026-10-30T19:00:00Z denotes a UTC instant, not a universal local start time. Consult the Live Streaming API broadcast documentation for timestamp and insertion requirements.

Do not assume a time-zone selector shown for scheduled video publication also applies to live streams. YouTube’s scheduled video publication instructions describe uploaded videos, not scheduled live broadcasts.
- Keep the recurring rule in a named time zone, not just a UTC offset.
- Generate or verify the UTC start time for each date, especially on both sides of a daylight-saving change.
- Check calendar changes such as month boundaries and weekday rules, and confirm the resulting event time in Studio before promoting it.
- If using a third-party scheduler or encoder, verify its local-time and daylight-saving behavior rather than assuming it matches the rule you entered.
Use Studio for a few events or the API for a recurring event system

In the API model, a liveBroadcast represents the scheduled event and a liveStream represents the audio-video feed and its stream settings. A common recurring-event setup reuses one liveStream and creates distinct liveBroadcast resources bound to it; Google’s documentation describes one event live at a time in that scenario. When inserting a broadcast through the API, provide snippet.title, snippet.scheduledStartTime, and status.privacyStatus. The start time must be a future ISO 8601 date-time; YouTube also documents limits on how far ahead a broadcast can be scheduled. Optional fields include a scheduled end time and settings such as auto-start, auto-stop, recording, and DVR, subject to supported states and restrictions. Do not enable start or stop behavior without confirming that it fits the encoder and event workflow.
Protect the stream key and check the feed
Treat the stream key as a password: anyone who obtains it may be able to send a feed to your channel. Do not publish it, include it in screenshots, or place it in an exposed script or repository. YouTube calls stream keys a password and address and documents resetting a key in Live Control Room if it is compromised; see the encoder setup guide.

- Confirm the encoder is using the server URL and key for the intended event.
- Check that audio is present and at a suitable level, with no unintended silence or clipping.
- Verify the watch page is accessible to the audience you intend before promoting it.
- Monitor the feed near start time and during the broadcast; a green preview before the event is not a substitute for monitoring the live feed.
Plan continuous radio separately from scheduled events
A scheduled broadcast is an event, not a guarantee of uninterrupted radio playout. If you want prerecorded audio to run unattended, separately configure and test the playout automation, encoder start and stop behavior, and recovery procedure. YouTube’s encoder instructions describe starting the encoder, waiting for preview, and going live; they do not establish an end-to-end recipe for an unattended, recurring 24/7 station.
YouTube Help says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. That rule does not establish a reliable single-event design for uninterrupted multi-day radio, nor does it guarantee how a longer stream will be archived. Treat continuous operation, restart recovery, and event duration as design decisions to verify rather than assuming one scheduled event will run forever.
Troubleshoot common scheduling problems
