Amazon IVS does not appear in the official setup guidance as an automatic relay to YouTube, so use an encoder or distribution service that explicitly supports sending your program to both. Each destination needs its own ingest address and stream key.
Before you start
- A YouTube channel enabled for live streaming. YouTube requires channel verification and no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. First-time activation may take up to 24 hours, so enable it ahead of your broadcast. YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility requirements.
- An Amazon IVS channel. Creating one provides an ingest endpoint, a stream key, and a playback URL. The ingest endpoint and key are for sending video into IVS; the playback URL is for viewing the stream, not for configuring YouTube ingest. AWS: Create an IVS channel.
- An encoder or distribution workflow with confirmed dual-destination support. Output options vary by tool. Check that it can send to YouTube and IVS concurrently, and learn whether a destination failure affects the other.
- Enough upload capacity and access through your network. Simulstreaming can require more upload bandwidth. A firewall can also block IVS ingest ports.
Set up the two destinations
1. Enable YouTube Live and prepare the event
Open YouTube Studio and go to the Live Control Room. Create or select the stream, then copy the YouTube stream URL and stream key. If you are scheduling an event, connect your encoder and wait for the preview in Live Control Room before selecting “Go live.” YouTube: Create a live stream with an encoder.

2. Create an Amazon IVS channel
Create the channel in the AWS console or with the AWS CLI. Save its ingest server and stream key for the encoder’s IVS destination. Keep the key private: AWS says anyone who has it can stream to that channel. The channel’s playback URL is not an ingest address. AWS: Create an IVS channel.

3. Configure the IVS output
For the AWS-documented OBS path, select Amazon IVS as the service and enter the IVS stream key. Set resolution and bitrate within the limits for your IVS channel type; AWS does not give one universal setting because supported values depend on channel type. AWS recommends a two-second keyframe interval for this OBS setup. IVS supports RTMP, RTMPS, and SRT ingest, subject to channel and encoder support. For RTMPS, AWS lists outbound TCP port 443 to *.live-video.net; for SRT, it lists TCP port 9000 to *.srt.live-video.net. Check network rules if the encoder cannot connect. AWS: Network configuration.
4. Add YouTube as a second output
In the encoder or distribution service, configure a separate YouTube destination using the YouTube stream URL and key from Live Control Room. Do not reuse IVS credentials or enter the IVS playback URL as YouTube’s ingest URL. The platforms have separate ingest details. YouTube describes sending the same content to multiple platforms at once as simulstreaming and advises having sufficient upload speed. YouTube Help: Stream across platforms.

Some tools may need an external distribution service to provide a second output. Confirm that the specific tool supports both platforms at once, what it does to the video, how it handles reconnects, and whether sending through an extra hop adds latency. AWS strongly recommends against third-party forwarding to IVS when low latency is needed; that is a design caution, not proof that every forwarding service has the same delay. 5. Start and verify each feed independently
- Start the encoder or distribution workflow and check its output status for both destinations.
- Confirm that YouTube shows a preview in Live Control Room. For a scheduled stream, use the event’s “Go live” control when ready.
- Confirm IVS playback in the AWS console or with an IVS Player SDK. AWS says console playback can take up to 30 seconds, usually less, to appear after streaming starts. AWS: Viewers and playback.
- If only one feed appears, troubleshoot that destination separately; a preview on one platform does not confirm that the other is receiving video.
Choose a dual-output approach

Neither platform’s cited setup guide verifies support for every encoder or distribution service. Confirm the exact tool’s current documentation before an event.

Protect the stream keys
- Store each key only in the destination it belongs to. Both keys can authorize broadcasts.
- Do not show keys in screenshots, public notes, recordings, or support requests.
- If a YouTube key may have been exposed, reset it in YouTube’s stream settings. AWS likewise warns that possession of an IVS key grants the ability to stream to that channel. YouTube encoder setup and AWS channel creation.
Troubleshoot common setup problems
YouTube has no preview
Check that the YouTube URL and key—not the IVS credentials—are configured for the YouTube output. Review Live Control Room status. If the key may have leaked, reset it and update the encoder.
IVS shows no picture
Verify the IVS ingest endpoint and key, selected protocol, firewall access, and whether the resolution and bitrate fit the channel type. Allow for the console’s possible playback delay after the stream starts.

The encoder is rejected or keeps disconnecting
Check that the encoder supports the chosen RTMP, RTMPS, or SRT workflow, that network access is open, and that the bitrate and resolution meet channel limits. For the AWS-documented OBS path, use the recommended two-second keyframe interval.
Only one destination works
Inspect each output’s status and credentials separately. Multiple-output support is tool-specific, and one destination’s preview does not verify the other.

Upload bandwidth is insufficient
Reduce output demand or use a distribution architecture suited to your connection. Consider the latency and cost implications of any forwarding service, and verify the service’s pricing and applicable AWS input and output charges before production. The AWS setup guidance notes that console preview uses live-video output and console broadcast consumes input; it does not establish a price for your configuration. AWS: Set up streaming software and AWS: Viewers and playback.
