To loop a prerecorded video on YouTube Live from a Windows laptop, add it to an OBS scene as a Media Source, enable Loop, connect OBS to a YouTube Live stream with its stream URL and key, then preview the feed in YouTube Studio before clicking Go live. The loop happens in OBS; YouTube receives it as a live encoder stream. The setup is the same for creators in India as elsewhere; the official guidance cited here does not specify a separate India-only encoder setup.
Before you start: check YouTube Live eligibility
Sign in to the YouTube channel that will host the broadcast. YouTube’s current help guidance says the channel must be verified and must not have had a live-streaming restriction in the preceding 90 days. It also states that a person must be at least 16 to livestream. Check eligibility before configuring OBS, because an encoder setup cannot bypass a channel restriction. Build the looping scene in OBS
Loop a single video file
- Open OBS on Windows and create or select a scene in the Scenes panel.
- In Sources, select + → Media Source. Name the source, then select OK.
- In the Media Source properties, choose the local video file. Enable Loop, then select OK. OBS will restart the file when playback reaches its end.
- Check the preview canvas. Resize or reposition the source if needed, and check the audio meter in the mixer while the video plays.
OBS’s Media Source supports local video on Windows and exposes a Loop property. See the OBS Media Sources guide for the source’s documented behavior and format details.

For multiple files, add VLC Video as a source instead of a Media Source, select the files for the playlist, and enable Loop Playlist. VLC must be installed. If you run 64-bit OBS, install 64-bit VLC. OBS documents the VLC source and its playlist options in the Media Sources guide.

Check the scene before going live
- Confirm the picture fills the intended canvas and is not cropped unintentionally.
- Play the scene long enough to hear the audio and verify the mixer responds. A silent or muted source can still produce a live picture.
- Use a short preview or test before a long broadcast. This guide does not assume a particular laptop, media codec, or internet connection has been tested.
Connect OBS to YouTube Live
- Open YouTube Studio and select Create → Go Live.
- In the Stream tab, create a stream or select a scheduled or previous stream.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key shown in Live Control Room. Treat the key like a password: enter it only in OBS, do not share it, and reset it if it is exposed.
- In OBS, open Settings → Stream. Select YouTube if available, or choose a custom server option and enter YouTube’s stream URL in the server field and the key in the stream-key field.
- Apply the settings. YouTube recommends RTMPS, its secure extension of RTMP; use the secure URL supplied by YouTube when configuring a custom server. Follow the current YouTube encoder setup instructions if labels differ.
Choose output settings your laptop and connection can sustain
YouTube automatically detects incoming resolution and frame rate by default and transcodes a stream into formats for viewers. For H.264, its published recommended bitrates include the following values; they are platform recommendations, not a guarantee that a particular laptop or Indian internet connection can maintain them. The full guidance varies by codec, resolution, and frame rate: YouTube Live encoder settings.
| Output | YouTube recommended H.264 bitrate |
|---|---|
| 720p at 30 fps | 4 Mbps |
| 720p at 60 fps | 6 Mbps |
| 1080p at 30 fps | 10 Mbps |
| 1080p at 60 fps | 12 Mbps |
For a first test, 720p30 or 1080p30 is a practical starting point only if the laptop and upload connection remain stable at the chosen bitrate. Test at the intended resolution and frame rate rather than assuming a speed-test result alone proves the stream will hold. YouTube recommends testing with similar audio and movement, checking Live Control Room’s preview, and monitoring stream health. If frames drop or the feed stutters, lower the output resolution or bitrate and test again. OBS’s output and video controls are in Settings → Output and Settings → Video; the right value depends on the source and available upload capacity.

Preview, start, monitor, and end the broadcast
- In OBS, select Start Streaming.
- Wait for the picture to appear in YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room preview. Check both picture and sound before going public.
- When the preview is correct, select Go live in Live Control Room.
- During the stream, monitor YouTube’s stream health and the OBS audio/video meters. If the feed becomes unstable, reduce output quality or bitrate and recheck the preview.
- To finish, end the stream in YouTube’s live workflow and stop the encoder. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; do not rely on automatic archiving for a loop lasting 12 hours or longer. See YouTube’s live streaming tips.
Rights, copyright, and monetization are separate checks
Use only video and audio you have the rights to stream. YouTube says: “All live streams are scanned for matches to third-party content, including copyrighted content in the form of another live broadcast.” If a match is detected, YouTube may replace the stream with a placeholder, interrupt it, or terminate it if the issue continues. A license does not necessarily prevent interruption if the rights owner has not allowlisted the channel through Content ID. Review YouTube Help: Copyright issues with live streams and the YouTube Terms of Service, which require creators to have necessary rights for worldwide exploitation and to comply with applicable law.

Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Technical ability to repeat a video does not determine whether a channel can monetize it. YouTube’s monetization policy update dated July 15, 2025 renamed “repetitious content” as “inauthentic content” and says repetitive or mass-produced material can be ineligible; the policy applies to live streams. Looping alone is not proof of copyright infringement, and permission to stream a work is not a guarantee of monetization. Read YouTube’s channel monetization policies.

Common problems and fixes
- The video stops at the end: Open the source properties and enable Loop. For a playlist, confirm Loop Playlist is enabled on the VLC Video source.
- YouTube does not receive the stream: Confirm the stream URL and key match the selected YouTube stream. Re-enter the key if necessary; reset it if it was shared or exposed.
- The preview is black or the wrong scene appears: Check that the intended scene is selected, the media source is visible, and its file is still available at the selected path.
- There is no audio: Check the media source’s audio settings and OBS mixer meter, and confirm the source is not muted.
- The stream stutters or drops frames: Test at a lower bitrate or resolution and monitor stream health. A published bitrate recommendation does not guarantee the laptop or connection can sustain it.
- YouTube interrupts the stream: Check Live Control Room alerts and review rights for every video and audio item. A detected third-party match can cause interruption even when a creator believes they have permission.
- VLC Video is unavailable in OBS: Install VLC and match its architecture to OBS; 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC.
