On a current RedM installation, the practical way to restrict access to approved players is txAdmin’s built-in whitelist. You first register the server with a valid Cfx.re license key, connect txAdmin, choose a whitelist mode, save the change, restart the server, and then approve players through requests or identifiers. The exact menu label can differ between txAdmin releases and hosting panels, so use the closest Whitelist or Player Manager page shown in your own panel.
This guide covers the complete setup, the four available access models, identifier formats, testing, staff permissions, and the failure cases that most often prevent an approved player from joining.

What you need before enabling a RedM whitelist
Have these items ready before changing access control:

- A Cfx.re account that can create or view server registration keys.
- Administrative access to txAdmin. The staff member who will approve players must also have the txAdmin
players.whitelistpermission. - A reliable way to identify each player. The identifier must be entered as a type and value separated by a colon, such as
identifierType:identifier. - If you plan to use Discord-member or Discord-role access, a linked Discord server and the required role configuration.
- If you will approve SteamID64 values, a Steam Web API key may be required by your host or txAdmin setup.
Keep a second, administrator account available while testing. If a whitelist rule is misconfigured, an admin-only fallback or an incorrect identifier can lock ordinary players out.
1. Register the RedM server and prepare its game settings
Get a Cfx.re server registration key
- Sign in to the Cfx.re portal.
- Open the Servers area and create or copy a server registration key for this server.
- In your server configuration, place that key in the
sv_licenseKeysetting. Keep the value private; anyone who obtains it may be able to impersonate or operate your server registration.
The exact server.cfg syntax was not confirmed in the available official material, so compare the setting name and quoting style with the current Cfx.re server documentation before saving. The official documentation hub is docs.fivem.net.
Set the RedM game identity
RedM also needs the game name set to rdr3. Your configuration must include a supported sv_enforceGameBuild value as well. Build numbers change over time; use the build supported by your installed artifacts and host rather than copying an old number from a forum post. Restart the server after changing these values and confirm that the console starts normally before proceeding to txAdmin.

- Start the RedM server from your panel or launch command.
- Watch the console for the txAdmin Web Panel address and one-time PIN.
- Open that address in a browser on the same machine or through the secure panel link supplied by your host.
- Enter the PIN shown in the console.
- Sign in with the Cfx.re account that should administer the server.
- Grant only the permissions each staff member needs. In particular, give whitelist managers the
players.whitelistpermission rather than broad administrative access when your staffing model allows it.
If no panel address or PIN appears, txAdmin may not be enabled by the host, the server may have failed before txAdmin initialized, or the console output may be hidden by the panel. Resolve that startup issue first; a whitelist cannot be managed until txAdmin is reachable.
3. Turn on whitelist mode
txAdmin releases and hosting panels do not all use the same navigation label. In one interface the control is under Settings → Whitelist; in another it appears under Settings → Player Manager. Open the settings area and look for the page that contains whitelist mode, rejection text, or approval controls.

- Open the Whitelist or Player Manager page.
- Select the access mode that matches how you intend to manage membership.
- Enter a clear rejection message. Tell unapproved players whether they should submit a request, contact staff, or wait for a scheduled opening.
- Save or apply the setting.
- Restart the RedM server. Treat the restart as part of the change: a saved panel value is not proof that every running resource has reloaded the new access rule.
After the restart, check the same page and the console to ensure the selected mode remains active. If the setting reverts, your hosting panel may be writing its own configuration over txAdmin.
4. Choose the right whitelist mode
txAdmin’s modes differ mainly in who controls admission and whether Discord must remain available. Select one deliberately rather than changing modes whenever a player has trouble connecting.

Discord modes reduce individual approval work but make Discord availability and role accuracy part of your admission system. Approved License mode takes more staff time, yet it gives you a direct record of which identifier was allowed. Admin-only is a lockdown state, not a normal public-community setting.
5. Approve players in txAdmin
Process incoming whitelist requests
- Open the txAdmin player-management area and select Whitelist Requests.
- Review the requester’s displayed identity and any information your community requires, such as an application reference.
- Select Approve to allow the request or Deny to reject it.
- Tell the player whether they need to reconnect. A player who was already rejected normally must establish a new connection after approval.
Use a consistent review rule among staff. Record why an application was denied in your private staff system rather than relying on memory, especially when several moderators share the queue.
Add an identifier directly
- Choose Add Approval (the wording may be Submit in some versions).
- Enter the identifier in the required form:
identifierType:identifier. - Save the approval and confirm that it appears in the approved list.
- Ask the player to reconnect and test access.
The colon is part of the format. Do not paste a bare number, a profile URL, or a display name when the field expects a typed identifier. Copy the value exactly as txAdmin displays it; leading spaces, trailing spaces, or a different identifier type can produce a denial even when the player appears to be the same person.

When a player gives you more than one identifier
A RedM client can present multiple identifiers. Approve the identifier your policy uses consistently, and retain the exact type in your records. If you approve one identifier but the player connects through another account or platform, txAdmin can correctly treat that connection as a different person. Ask the player to reconnect with the account used during the request before adding a second identifier.

Some hosts require a Steam Web API key before SteamID64 lookups or approvals work. If a Steam identifier cannot be resolved, check the host’s Steam integration setting and add the API key there if required. Do not publish the key in a community channel or place it in a client-side file.
6. Test the whitelist before announcing the server
Perform both sides of the access test while you still have console or panel access.
- Use an account or identifier that is not approved. Attempt to join and confirm that the connection is refused with the rejection message you configured.
- Approve that same identifier through a request or Add Approval.
- Reconnect using the same account and confirm that the player reaches the server.
- Remove or deny the approval temporarily and repeat the first test, then restore the intended state.
- If you use Discord roles, remove the test role, verify denial, restore the role, and verify admission again.
Run the test after every mode change and after a server restart. Testing only from an administrator account can hide a broken whitelist because admin-only access may bypass ordinary admission checks.
7. A practical approval workflow for a live community
Set one source of truth
Decide whether txAdmin or Discord is authoritative. In Discord-member and Discord-role modes, role membership is the source of access. In Approved License mode, the txAdmin approval list is authoritative. Avoid maintaining a second spreadsheet that staff treat as an independent allow-list; it quickly becomes stale.

Define staff responsibilities
- Assign the
players.whitelistpermission only to staff who review applications. - Require reviewers to verify the identifier type and value before approving.
- Use a second reviewer for bans, sensitive staff accounts, or bulk changes.
- Remove whitelist-management permission when a moderator leaves the team.
Handle departures and bans
When a player leaves permanently, remove the approval instead of merely deleting a note in your staff system. For a ban, apply your normal player-ban process as well as removing whitelist approval if your policy requires both. Whitelist approval answers “may this identifier pass the gate?”; it does not replace moderation, ban, or role-management procedures.
Plan maintenance windows
Use Admin-only mode for a controlled maintenance period when you need every ordinary connection blocked. Publish the window through your community’s normal channel, perform the work, test with an administrator, and then return to the normal mode. Do not leave Admin-only enabled while troubleshooting a separate player issue, because it can make every ordinary player appear to be misconfigured.

The Whitelist tab is missing
Look under Settings → Player Manager and inspect any collapsed settings sections. Menu placement varies by txAdmin version. If the control is still absent, ask the host whether its panel disables or replaces txAdmin’s player-management features. A panel can expose txAdmin while retaining control over selected settings.
The mode saves but players are still admitted
- Confirm that you clicked Save or Apply, not merely changed the drop-down.
- Restarted the server after saving; if not, do so.
- Check that the mode is not Discord-member or Discord-role when you intended manual approvals.
- Test with a non-admin account. Administrators may have a bypass.
- Review the console and panel after restart for a configuration overwrite.
An approved player is rejected
- Open the approval entry and compare its identifier type and value with the identifier shown for the player’s current connection.
- Remove accidental spaces and re-enter the value in
identifierType:identifierform. - Confirm the player is using the same Cfx.re, Discord, or Steam account used in the request.
- For SteamID64, verify that the host’s Steam Web API requirement is satisfied.
- Have the player fully reconnect after the approval; an already rejected session may not be re-evaluated in place.
A Discord-role player is rejected
Check that the linked Discord server is the intended one, the player still has the required role, and the Discord account used by the player is the account txAdmin can resolve. A role change may not affect an already-open game session, so test with a fresh connection.
The server locks everyone out after a change
Use your administrator account to open txAdmin, switch from Admin-only to the intended mode, save, and restart. If the panel immediately changes the value back, disable the conflicting panel setting or follow the host’s documented order of operations. Keep the console and panel credentials available before experimenting with access controls.

9. Hosting-panel conflicts and version drift
Managed panels can override or disable txAdmin options once txAdmin is enabled. This is why a setting that works on a self-managed server may disappear, revert after restart, or be represented by a panel-specific toggle. Before changing both systems, identify which one writes the active configuration and make changes in that system only.
Menu names also age faster than the underlying feature. A host article that was already about 496 days old at the time it was indexed may show screens that no longer match your txAdmin build. Treat screenshots and labels as orientation, not as proof that your installation has the same layout. The functional clues are the mode selector, rejection message, request queue, and approval-entry form.
A 2026 guide referenced a Discord-linked queue, but no verified setup procedure establishes that it is a standard txAdmin feature. Do not install an additional whitelist resource solely to reproduce that queue unless you have confirmed its compatibility with your RedM artifacts and txAdmin version.

- Keep the Cfx.re license key and any Steam Web API key out of public repositories, screenshots, and Discord messages.
- Use separate staff accounts instead of sharing one administrator login.
- Grant
players.whitelistto the smallest practical group. - Review the approval list periodically and remove obsolete identifiers.
- Require a reconnect after approval, denial, role changes, and mode changes so the test reflects the current rule.
- Keep a written record of who approved or removed an identifier and why.
- Maintain an emergency administrator path before enabling Admin-only mode or experimenting with panel settings.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need a separate third-party whitelist resource?
Not for the four core txAdmin modes: Discord member, Discord role, Approved License, and Admin-only. A separate resource may be relevant to a custom queue or application workflow, but the Discord-linked queue described by one recent guide does not have a verified standard setup here. Start with txAdmin and add extra software only after confirming that it solves a requirement txAdmin does not cover.
Can I whitelist by a player’s name?
The documented approval workflow uses a typed identifier, not a display name. Enter the player’s identifier in identifierType:identifier form so a name change does not silently transfer access to another account.
What should my rejection message say?
State the next action and the expected channel, for example: “Access is limited to approved players. Submit a whitelist request in the community’s application channel.” Keep the message accurate for the mode you selected; a Discord-role server should not promise manual approval if staff do not process individual requests.
