How to Set Up a Verizon Wi-Fi Extender: E3200 and CE1000A

Identify your Verizon extender and router model first. Then follow the model-specific pairing steps and use the status light to find the right location.
Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

First, check the model label on both your Verizon extender and router or gateway. Verizon’s E3200 and CE1000A use different button names and have different compatibility rules, so follow only the instructions for your model.

Check compatibility before pairing

For the E3200, Verizon lists the ARC-XCI55AX, ASK-NCQ1338, and ASK-NCQ1338FA gateways as compatible. The E3200 does not work with the WNC-CR200A. See Verizon’s E3200 compatibility FAQ.

The CE1000A is listed as compatible only with the Verizon Router CR1000A/B and Fios Router G3100. With other routers, some features may not work as designed. Check Verizon’s CE1000A product information. Do not assume that an extender works with every Verizon router.

Set up the E3200 wirelessly

  1. Plug the E3200 into an outlet near the Verizon Internet Gateway. Wait until its light is solid yellow.
  2. Press and hold the extender’s Unified (pair) button for three seconds.
  3. Within two minutes, press the Pair button on the gateway. Both devices blink blue while pairing.
  4. When the extender shows solid white or blinking yellow, unplug it and move it to a spot between the gateway and the area with weak Wi-Fi.
  5. Plug it in at the new location and use the light to adjust its position. Fast-blinking yellow means it is too close to the gateway; slow-blinking yellow means it is too far away. Move it farther away for fast blinking or closer for slow blinking.

Verizon’s E3200 setup guide states: “Once the LED indicator turns solid white, your setup is complete.”

Set up the E3200 with Ethernet instead

Use this option if you can run an Ethernet cable from the router to the extender’s location. Ethernet is not required for wireless pairing.

  1. Connect the E3200 to the router with an Ethernet cable.
  2. Plug in the extender and wait for the initial solid yellow light.
  3. Follow the same E3200 button-pairing completion and placement process: hold the Unified (pair) button on the extender for three seconds, press Pair on the gateway within two minutes, then use the status light to position the extender.

Verizon documents both wireless and wired setup in its E3200 pairing instructions.

Set up the CE1000A

These steps are specific to the CE1000A; it uses a WPS button rather than the E3200’s Unified (pair) button.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Plug the extender in beside the Verizon Internet Gateway and wait for a solid white light.
  2. Press and hold the extender’s WPS button for three seconds.
  3. Within two minutes, press the gateway’s Pair button. Both devices blink blue during pairing.
  4. When a solid white or blinking yellow light appears, move the extender between the gateway and the weak-coverage area.
  5. At the new location, use the yellow light to adjust placement: fast blinking means move it farther from the gateway; slow blinking means move it closer.

For a wired CE1000A setup, connect the extender to the router with Ethernet before plugging it in. Verizon says pairing may take up to 10 minutes. Follow the CE1000A setup guide for that model’s instructions.
