Connect your modem or Ethernet outlet to the Archer BE550’s 2.5 Gbps WAN port, power on the modem and router, then configure the network in the TP-Link Tether app or a browser. Before downloading firmware or following revision-specific instructions, check the hardware version printed on your router and use the TP-Link support page for your region.
Before you begin: check the router and its contents
TP-Link lists several Archer BE550 hardware revisions, and availability varies by region. Find the hardware version on the device label; if you later need firmware or revision-specific guidance, use the matching TP-Link support page for the country where you bought the router. TP-Link warns that incorrect firmware can damage the device and void its warranty.

The Archer BE550 2.0 setup guide lists the router, power adapter, Ethernet cable, and installation guides in the package. The included cable is enough for basic setup; you do not need to buy another cable just to connect the modem.
How do I connect the Archer BE550 to my modem?
- Place the router. Set it near a power outlet and the modem or incoming Ethernet connection.
- Connect the incoming internet line. Plug an Ethernet cable from the modem or Ethernet wall outlet into the BE550’s 2.5 Gbps WAN port. Do not use a LAN port for this connection.
- Restart the modem, then turn on the router. Power on the modem and let it restart. The BE550 V2 product guide says to wait about two minutes. Connect the router’s power adapter and switch it on; wait until its LED is solid before continuing.
- Connect a setup device. Either connect a computer to a router LAN port with Ethernet, or join the default Wi-Fi network using the SSID and password printed on the router’s label.
The same LAN ports can be used later for wired clients. TP-Link identifies a 2.5 Gbps LAN port for wired devices in the BE550 2.0 product guide.

Choose the Tether app or browser setup
Both routes let you follow on-screen instructions to configure the internet connection and Wi-Fi settings. Use the ISP-provided connection details if the setup flow asks for them. Keep the setup device online while downloading and signing in to the app.

- Confirm the modem or Ethernet outlet is connected to the BE550’s 2.5 Gbps WAN port and the cable is seated.
- If the internet comes from a modem, make sure it has restarted before retrying.
- Check that your phone or computer is connected to the BE550’s default Wi-Fi or a LAN port, rather than another network.
- Reopen Tether or try the browser address again.
- If the setup flow requests connection information, check whether your ISP supplied special settings.
These checks cover the basic wiring and setup process; the cited TP-Link guides do not establish a universal diagnosis for provider-specific connection problems.

Use firmware and support material for your BE550 revision
Hardware revision and purchase region matter when choosing support material. On TP-Link’s US Archer BE550 V1 support page, TP-Link says to get firmware from the local TP-Link site for the device’s purchase location, avoid powering off the router during an update, and prefer a wired upload to reduce the risk of a wireless disconnection. Those instructions are specific to that support page, not a substitute for checking your own revision and region.
Firmware features can also differ by revision and build. For example, the US V1 support page lists EasyMesh in AP mode as an addition in build 1.1.1 from 2025; that feature should not be assumed to apply to every BE550 revision or region. The setup video linked from a support page may illustrate a different Archer model, so use the BE550 guide and matching support material for model-specific steps.
Optional: add coverage with EasyMesh
If you already have a compatible device and want to extend coverage, the Archer BE550 Revision 2.0.0 user guide describes adding another router as an EasyMesh satellite. In Tether, open More > EasyMesh, enable EasyMesh, tap Add Satellite Devices, choose the device type, and follow the app instructions. In a browser, open Advanced > EasyMesh.

What does the BE550’s 9.3 Gbps Wi-Fi figure mean?
TP-Link’s 2026 Archer BE550 2.0 datasheet lists a combined maximum Wi-Fi rate of up to 9.3 Gbps. TP-Link conditions that aggregate figure on Wi-Fi 7 clients supporting MLO and 6 GHz, connected across 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz, and 6 GHz simultaneously. It is a manufacturer’s theoretical combined rate, not a promised speed for one device or a typical internet connection.
