To set up a TanTan WP3 smart plug, add it in the Smart Life app over 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi, then link Smart Life to Alexa if you want voice control. The button behavior and electrical ratings below apply to the WP3; check the model label and matching instructions if your plug is a different TanTan model.
Before you begin
- Check the model number on the plug and use its matching instructions. The steps here are based on TanTan’s Mini Smart Socket Instruction (WP3); a separate S2 instruction sheet describes a similar app workflow but is not proof that every detail is shared.
- Install or open Smart Life from the Apple App Store or Google Play, then sign in or register.
- For the WP3, use a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network and have its password ready. The manual lists 2.4 GHz; it does not establish that every TanTan model uses the same band.
- Check that the plug’s printed electrical rating and regional outlet format suit the outlet and the appliance you plan to connect.
Pair the WP3 with Smart Life
- Plug the WP3 into a suitable outlet.
- Open Smart Life, tap +, choose Electrical outlet, and start adding a device. Labels may differ in a current app version.
- Hold the plug’s on/off button until its indicator flashes slowly. Confirm that state in the app.
- Follow the app’s connection prompts. TanTan’s WP3 manual recommends Easy Mode. If that fails, switch to AP Mode in the app and follow its directions. The manual refers to a Wi-Fi hotspot named “Smart Life,” but current app prompts or hotspot behavior may differ.
- Wait for setup to finish, then tap Done.
Link the plug to Alexa
First confirm that the plug appears and works in Smart Life. Then use Alexa to enable the Smart Life skill and link the account:

- Open the Alexa app and search for the Smart Life skill.
- Enable the skill, sign in with the same Smart Life account used for setup, and complete account linking.
- Run device discovery in Alexa. When the plug appears, assign it a useful name or room and test a command in the app before relying on voice control.
Alexa menus and skill availability can change. If the skill is not available or the device is not discovered, consult the current Alexa app and account-linking prompts.

If setup or Alexa discovery fails
Smart Life cannot add the plug
- Recheck the Wi-Fi name and password, and make sure the phone is connecting to the intended home network.
- For the WP3, confirm the network is 2.4 GHz and that the indicator is flashing slowly before continuing.
- If Easy Mode does not work, try AP Mode as directed by the app and the WP3 manual. Do not assume the hotspot name or screens will match an older manual exactly.
- If the router uses band controls or client/AP isolation, review its documentation. Google’s general smart-device setup guidance notes that network band configuration and isolation can affect setup; it does not establish Google Home support for a particular TanTan plug. Alexa does not find a plug already in Smart Life
- Check that the Smart Life skill is enabled and linked to the account that contains the plug.
- Run Alexa device discovery again.
- Restart the plug by unplugging it and reconnecting power. Amazon recommends this first for an unresponsive third-party smart plug; if it still fails, remove it in Alexa, follow the manufacturer’s model-specific reset steps, then reconnect it. See Amazon’s third-party smart plug reset guidance.
Reset only with the correct model instructions
The WP3 manual says its on/off button can restore factory defaults and warns: “Only do this if you are sure you want to erase all your settings.” The excerpted instructions do not specify how long to hold the button. The separate S2 sheet also describes a long press, but that is not a basis for applying its timing or behavior to a WP3. Check the instructions for the exact model before resetting; a factory reset erases settings.

TanTan’s WP3 manual lists the following specifications. They are specific to that model and should not replace the rating printed on the actual plug or establish suitability for a different regional version.
