How to Set Up a Sub Goal Widget in Streamlabs

Set up a Sub Goal in the Streamlabs Dashboard, then add it to Streamlabs Desktop or OBS. Learn how to handle shared and platform-specific goals.
Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Set up the goal in the Streamlabs Dashboard, choose which platform events count, then add the saved goal to your scene as a Streamlabs Desktop source, an OBS plugin source, or a Browser Source. The exact route depends on your broadcasting software—and separate platform-specific goals require separate widget themes and Browser Sources.

Configure the Sub Goal in the Streamlabs Dashboard

  1. Sign in to the Streamlabs Dashboard. In the left navigation, open All Widgets, then choose Sub Goal under Goals.
  2. In Manage Goal, enter a goal title, target amount, starting amount, and end date. Choose whether to count subscriber total or sub points. Sub points can account for higher-tier subscriptions receiving multiple points, which may suit some affiliates or partners.
  3. In Platform, choose the events that count toward the goal. The documented options include Twitch subscriptions, optional resubs, gifted subscriptions and Prime Subs; YouTube memberships and gifted memberships; Facebook supports and support gifters; and Kick subscribers. Check the dropdown in your own account: available integrations and labels can change.
  4. Choose the layout, colors, font, and progress-bar thickness. Use the live preview to check the design.
  5. Optionally customize the widget with HTML/CSS. Streamlabs says advanced HTML/CSS changes override other appearance settings.
  6. Save the settings to start the goal. If you will add it as a Browser Source, copy its widget URL and keep it private; it is a link to your configured widget, not something to display or post publicly.

The preview background is not the live background: Streamlabs says the widget background is transparent on stream.

Add the goal to your streaming software

Streamlabs Desktop: native source

  1. Open the Editor and select the plus button in the Sources panel.
  2. Choose Subscription Goal and add the source.
  3. In the Goal tab, review or enter the title, target, starting amount, and end date, then select Start Goal.
  4. Adjust the appearance in Visual Settings. Use the Source tab for advanced settings, then select Done.

If dashboard settings are already shown, review them and continue through the remaining setup.

OBS Studio: Streamlabs Plugin

  1. Install the Streamlabs Plugin for OBS and log in.
  2. In OBS, open Streamlabs in the top navigation, select Sub Goal, then choose +Add.
  3. Drag and resize the widget source in your scene. To change widget settings, use Settings as directed by the plugin.

Streamlabs’ guide does not specify plugin version requirements, so menu names or availability may differ between releases.

OBS Studio or other software: Browser Source

  1. In the Dashboard, save the widget and copy its URL.
  2. In your broadcasting software, add a Browser Source and paste the URL.
  3. Position and resize the source in the scene. Confirm it is visible in the preview before going live.

Streamlabs documents this URL approach for Browser Source-compatible software, including OBS Studio and XSplit.

Choose one shared goal or separate goals by platform

Setup How it works Best fit
One shared goal Use one goal to combine eligible events across the platforms selected in the goal settings. The native Streamlabs Desktop source displays the currently selected widget theme. A combined target managed in one goal.
Separate platform goals Create a separate widget theme for each platform, configure the goal with that theme selected, and copy that theme’s Sub Goal URL. Add each URL as its own Browser Source and label the sources by platform. Distinct targets or styling for different platforms. The native Streamlabs Desktop source displays only the selected theme’s goal, so use separate Browser Sources for multiple theme-specific goals.

Do not assume every subscription or support event counts: the platform dropdown determines the available event types for the configured goal.

  • Fully Customizable: Use as an audio mixer, studio controller, production console, etc.
  • Multi Actions, Smart Profiles: trigger multiple actions at once or sequentially, automatically switch between interface configurations for different apps.
  • Powerful Plugins: Elgato Wave Link, Camera Hub, Control Center, OBS, Twitch, YouTube, Twitter, Discord, Spotify, Philips Hue, and many more
  • Stream Deck App and Store: drag and drop setup, download plugins, icons, thousands of royalty-free tracks, SFX, and more. Regular updates and new plugins frequently added.

Fix common setup problems

  • The widget is not visible in the scene: Check that the source was added to the active scene, that it is not hidden or covered by another source, and that the Browser Source has the saved widget URL.
  • The live widget background looks different from the preview: This is expected; the preview background is only for preview, while the live widget background is transparent.
  • The goal total does not reflect an expected event: Check the selected platform and event types in the goal settings. The widget counts the events configured there, not every event a platform might offer.
  • The wrong platform goal appears: In Streamlabs Desktop, the native source displays the currently selected theme’s goal. For distinct platform goals, add each theme’s URL as a separate Browser Source.
  • The plugin menus do not match the guide: Streamlabs does not state a required plugin version in its setup instructions. Check the installed plugin and use the available settings route in that release.

Or let it run in the cloud

A Sub Goal widget is an overlay for a live scene; StreamNeo serves a different purpose. It keeps a YouTube channel live from uploaded videos, not a camera feed, and does not add or configure a Sub Goal overlay. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. The cloud loop continues without a computer, OBS, or home connection staying on.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • No computer needs to stay on at home.
  • Videos stream as uploaded, at any quality up to 4K 60fps, for one flat price per slot.
  • Automatic recovery runs if YouTube drops the stream.
  • The first day is free with no card required.

Monthly plan: $9.99 per month. See StreamNeo for details, or start the free day.
