Connect your new HONOR phone to Wi-Fi, prepare and unlock your old phone, then transfer data with HONOR Device Clone or the Android setup or backup option offered on your devices. Check that important photos, messages, contacts, files and apps arrived before you erase the old phone. Finish by setting a screen lock and reviewing defaults, permissions, updates and lost-device settings. Menu names and transfer options vary by model and software version.
Before you transfer anything
Charge both phones, connect the HONOR phone to Wi-Fi, and make sure you can unlock the old phone with its PIN, pattern or password. Sign in to the accounts you use and back up important data first. Google recommends charging both devices and backing up before starting a transfer (Google’s Android transfer guide; Google’s backup and restore guidance).

- Keep both phones nearby and unlocked while a direct transfer runs.
- Have account passwords and any verification method you need available.
- If you choose a wired Android transfer, use a compatible data-transfer cable that fits both phones. An adapter may be needed if their connectors differ; a cable is not required for wireless transfer (Google’s transfer instructions).
Choose the transfer route that fits your old phone
There is no single transfer route that works identically on every HONOR model. Device Clone, Android’s first-time setup transfer and Google Account restore are the main options described by HONOR and Google. The categories transferred can differ, so treat the method as a starting point and verify important items afterward.

| Route | Best fit | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| HONOR Device Clone | Direct transfer from an Android phone or iPhone/iPad when the HONOR model offers Device Clone. | HONOR provides separate prompts for Android and iPhone/iPad. Its support page lists Android 7.0 or later and iOS 8.0 or later for the old device; confirm availability on your actual model (HONOR Device Clone instructions). |
| Android setup transfer | Moving from another Android phone, or using Google’s iOS-to-Android setup option when offered. | Prompts may offer wireless pairing or a cable. Google lists a range of transferable categories, but says results vary (Google’s transfer guide). |
| Google Account backup restore | Restoring data backed up to the Google Account used on the new phone. | Restoration may take time; Google says it can take up to 24 hours. Restoring from a newer Android version to an older one can leave the transfer incomplete (Google’s backup and restore guidance). |
Transfer with HONOR Device Clone
HONOR’s support instructions cover Android and iPhone/iPad sources. The exact screens can differ by model and software; follow the prompts displayed on both devices.

From an Android phone
- On the new HONOR phone, open Device Clone and choose This is the new device, then select HONOR or Other Android as appropriate.
- Follow the screen instructions to install or open Device Clone on the old phone.
- Pair the phones by scanning the displayed code or using the manual connection option.
- Choose the data categories to move and start the transfer. Leave the phones connected until it finishes.
From an iPhone or iPad
- On the HONOR phone, open Device Clone, choose This is the new device, then select iPhone/iPad.
- Follow the prompts to install or open Device Clone and connect the old device.
- Select the data categories offered and complete the on-screen transfer steps.
HONOR describes Device Clone as moving basic data such as contacts, calendar items, images and videos. That is HONOR’s description of the feature; it does not establish that every app, account or data type will move. HONOR’s instructions are available on its Device Clone support page.
Use Android setup transfer or a Google backup
If you are moving from Android, follow the new phone’s setup prompts for copying data from an old device, or choose a Google Account backup when that option appears. Google’s setup copy may include apps and some app data, music, photos, videos, contacts, text messages, most phone settings, message media, wallpaper and call history. What transfers depends on the devices and backup coverage (Google’s transfer guide).
Google also describes an iPhone-to-Android transfer during setup. The prompts may use Wi-Fi pairing or a cable, depending on the devices and flow offered. Do not assume it transfers the same items as Device Clone or an Android-to-Android copy (Google’s transfer guide).

Know what may need separate attention
A completed transfer does not necessarily mean the new phone contains everything from the old one. Google lists downloads, media in hidden folders, apps installed outside Google Play, app data not covered by Android backup, non-Google accounts and some synced contacts or calendars among items that may not copy in the usual setup transfer (Google’s transfer guide).
For an iPhone move, file formats, iCloud storage, whether an app is available on Android and messaging differences can leave gaps (Google’s guide to switching from iPhone). Re-download missing apps from their official store, sign in again where needed, and check key files and conversations manually.
If you skipped transfer during setup
Some Android phones show a Finish setting up prompt or offer a copy option under Accounts & backup; availability and wording vary. Google notes that other devices may require a manufacturer-specific route or a reset to run setup transfer again (Google’s transfer troubleshooting guidance).

Do not reset the HONOR phone as your first troubleshooting step: a reset erases data stored on it. Check HONOR’s instructions for your model and software before considering a reset, and back up anything already saved to the new phone.
Verify the transfer before erasing the old phone
Open the new phone and check the items you cannot afford to lose. A practical check includes:
- Contacts and calendars, including accounts you use to sync them.
- Recent and older photos and videos, including anything stored in a hidden folder or download location.
- Text messages and message attachments that matter to you.
- Documents and downloads in the locations where you originally saved them.
- Important apps, their sign-in status and any data they store separately.
Keep the old phone intact until those checks pass. HONOR warns that factory reset erases accounts, app data, system settings, installed apps and files in internal storage; back up first (HONOR’s factory-reset guidance).

Set a screen lock
Choose a PIN, pattern or password rather than leaving the phone without a lock. Google recommends a PIN of at least six digits for added security and notes that the screen lock can protect certain private data used in backups (Google’s screen-lock guidance). If your model offers fingerprint or face unlock, set a screen lock as the fallback; biometric options are model-dependent.

Use Settings search to find the available controls for security status, app permissions, system updates and account security.
