To use a headset for 3CX calls on Windows, switch the app to Softphone mode, then select the headset separately for Microphone and Speaker in Audio Options. Set Ringing separately if you want call alerts to play through another device. Vendor-specific headset integration is optional and depends on the model.
Before choosing audio devices, switch to Softphone mode
3CX’s Windows client can either make and receive calls through the computer or control a desk phone. Choose Softphone mode if you want to speak and listen through a headset connected to the PC; CTI mode is for controlling a desk phone. Use the phone selector in the Windows client to choose Softphone. The 3CX Windows client guide describes the modes, and 3CX’s end-user troubleshooting guide also identifies the phone selector as a first check when calls are not using the computer.

Install and provision the Windows app
Use the installation route approved by your organization. 3CX’s Windows Softphone manual describes downloading the app from the Microsoft Store, entering your organization’s 3CX URL, and signing in with your account details. It also documents installing and provisioning the app from the Web Client. If your administrator manages deployment or provisioning, follow that process rather than configuring an account independently.
Choose the microphone, speaker, and ringing device
- Open the Windows app’s Audio Options.
- In Microphone, select the headset microphone you want to use for calls.
- In Speaker, select the headset output you want to hear calls through. Check this separately: choosing a device for one dropdown does not select it for the other.
- In Ringing, choose where incoming-call alerts should play. You can use the headset or select another speaker so alerts remain audible when you are not wearing it.
3CX’s troubleshooting instructions call out microphone, speaker, and ringing as distinct device choices. Device names in the menus depend on what Windows detects and how the headset is connected.

When to enable headset integration
Jabra headsets
For a Jabra headset, 3CX documents an optional integration in Settings > Audio/Video > Headset integration. Select Jabra, connect the headset, and confirm the app reports Headset ready. Then select the Jabra device as the microphone and speaker; ringing may still be assigned to another device. Available controls such as answering or ending a call, changing volume, and muting depend on the headset model. See 3CX’s Jabra setup guide, last updated 4 June 2026.
Yealink headsets
3CX’s release guidance dated 7 August 2024 describes enabling the Headset option and selecting the connected device for supported Yealink integrations. The models named in that article are UH34, UH36, UH37, UH38, WH62, WH63, WH66, WH67, BH70, BH71, BH72, BH72+BT51, BH76, and CPX00/MP50. This is a model- and release-specific list, not a guarantee that every model or feature works with every 3CX version. Check the current 3CX Yealink release guidance and vendor compatibility information for the exact headset before buying or configuring it.

Troubleshoot calls with no sound or the wrong audio device
- Calls are going through a desk phone: check the phone selector and choose Softphone if the PC should handle the call.
- You can hear callers, but they cannot hear you: reopen Audio Options and check the Microphone selection.
- You cannot hear callers: check the Speaker selection independently of the microphone.
- Call alerts are missing or playing in the wrong place: check the Ringing device; it is a separate choice.
- Jabra integration is enabled but not working as expected: confirm the app reports Headset ready and that the Jabra device is assigned to both microphone and speaker.
If those checks do not resolve the problem, contact your organization’s 3CX administrator. The 3CX troubleshooting guide advises end users not to change advanced settings. These checks cover documented configuration options; they are not a universal fix for every Windows audio-routing issue or app and headset combination.

Do you need to buy a particular headset?
No specific headset is required by the setup instructions. If you need hardware, choose a headset with a microphone that connects to your PC, and verify the exact model’s compatibility, connector, and any integration features you want. 3CX documents Jabra setup and names supported Yealink models in release guidance, but those sources do not compare headset sound quality or establish that one brand is necessary.
