You can keep a YouTube stream running without leaving your home computer on by running OBS on a rented Windows cloud PC or VPS. You manage the remote machine, encoder, media, and recovery yourself. Copy the stream URL and stream key for the encoder. Treat the key like a password: do not include it in screenshots, public pages, or messages that others can access. If it is exposed, replace it in YouTube and update OBS.
Choose a rupee-billed Windows VM carefully
Cloud PC, Windows VPS, and general-purpose cloud VM offers are not equivalent. Compare the full bill for the runtime you need rather than choosing by the headline monthly figure or advertised port speed.
- Windows licensing: confirm whether a Windows desktop license or Windows Server license is included and appropriate for the offering.
- Taxes and billing: check whether GST is extra, whether the price is promotional, and whether billing is monthly, hourly, or usage-based.
- Resources: compare CPU, RAM, storage, and the ability to keep the media and OBS workload running continuously.
- Network terms: check outbound traffic allowances, bandwidth limits, and any additional data charges. A stated port speed is not proof of sustained throughput for your stream.
- Location and availability: confirm that the product can actually be purchased and operated from your region.
- Additional costs: include backups, storage expansion, support, and any other metered services in the monthly total.
Examples published by providers illustrate why the conditions matter. Microsoft’s India Windows 365 business page displayed a 2-vCPU, 4-GB-RAM, 128-GB configuration at ₹2,515 per user/month, with GST extra, but also said the product was not currently available in the user’s country or region. Do not treat that displayed price as an orderable offer without confirming availability.

Install and configure OBS on the VM

In OBS, run Tools > Auto-Configuration Wizard and set it up for streaming. The wizard helps configure OBS, but the result still needs to be tested on your specific VM and network.

Create a scene for the broadcast. Add the source that matches your workflow, such as a media source for prerecorded content, an image, text, or an appropriate capture source. OBS supports sources including video, images, text, camera, gameplay, and desktop capture.

Set up audio and confirm that the OBS audio meters move when the content plays. Check that the stream contains the sound you expect, without clipping or unintended silence.

Load the actual media or production sources you intend to use. Confirm that the files are accessible from the VM and that the scene continues to play through the transitions or loop behavior you need.
Connect OBS to YouTube and set stream quality

In OBS, open Settings > Stream, select YouTube as the service, and enter the stream URL and key from Live Control Room. If the stream URL is not provided automatically by the selected service configuration, use the URL YouTube supplies.

Use YouTube’s published encoder guidance as a baseline: H.264 video, constant bitrate (CBR), AAC or MP3 audio, and a keyframe interval of 2 seconds. YouTube says not to exceed 4 seconds between keyframes.

Choose resolution and bitrate based on a sustained test of your upload capacity and what the VM’s encoder can maintain. YouTube advises testing with representative sound and motion, then monitoring stream health. Do not assume that a provider’s advertised port speed proves the VM can sustain a particular bitrate around the clock.

Start streaming in OBS and watch the YouTube preview in Live Control Room. Once the preview and stream health are satisfactory, follow the on-screen Go live workflow if required for your stream setup.

- Arrange a way to notice if the stream, OBS, or VM stops. Decide who will check it and how they will reconnect to the VM.
- Know how you will restart OBS or the VM and restore the stream after a failure. A cloud machine removes the need to keep a home PC on; it does not eliminate the need for monitoring and recovery.
- Check the stream after updates, media changes, or VM plan changes, since each can affect the encoder workload or output.
Plan for the replay separately
YouTube Help states: “All streams under 12 hours will be automatically archived.” That published condition applies to streams under 12 hours; do not rely on it alone for a longer continuous broadcast.
