How to Set Up a 24/7 Ocean Sounds Playlist for YouTube Live

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

For a do-it-yourself setup, run OBS on a computer that can stay on, add your ocean-sounds file as a Media Source, and enable Loop. For multiple recordings, use OBS’s VLC Video source and enable Loop Playlist. Then connect OBS to a YouTube Live stream, test the preview and audio, and monitor the broadcast. Before going live, confirm that you have the rights to stream both the sound recording and any visuals.

What you need before you start

  • A YouTube channel that is verified and eligible for live streaming. YouTube says first-time activation can take up to 24 hours, so enable it in advance. See YouTube’s live-streaming setup guidance and encoder setup instructions.
  • A computer with OBS and a stable internet connection. YouTube lists OBS among its software encoders and says, “You do not need expensive equipment, what you have at hand will do.” See YouTube live streaming tips.
  • An ocean recording and visual that you have permission to stream. Keep the files available on the computer for the duration of the broadcast.
  • Time to test looping, audio, the YouTube preview, and interruption recovery before making the stream public.

Choose and prepare the ocean media

You can loop one video that already contains the ocean audio, or use a still image or visual loop with an audio file. For a playlist, gather the clips and decide whether you want them in a fixed order or shuffled. Test the joins between clips: listen for silence, clicks, abrupt volume changes, or a jarring change in the visuals. These are checks to perform on your own files; playback quality depends on the media and setup.

Check rights for each component. A recording of natural ambience, any music or composition within it, and accompanying visuals can involve separate rights. YouTube describes permission, public-domain material, Creative Commons licensing, and applicable copyright exceptions as possible routes, but says none guarantees that a stream will avoid a Content ID claim or copyright strike. Keep the source, license or permission, attribution terms, and any commercial-use restrictions for both audio and visuals. See YouTube’s copyright guidance.

Set up a single looping file in OBS

  1. Open OBS and select the scene that will carry the stream. Add a visual source if your media file does not already provide the picture you want.
  2. In the Sources panel, select + → Media Source. Create a new source, or select an existing one.
  3. Choose the local media file. Enable Loop so OBS starts it again when playback ends. Leave the file on the computer and do not move or rename it while the source depends on that path.
  4. Play the source in OBS. Confirm that the picture is visible, the audio meter moves, and the sound is audible at a suitable level. Listen through the intended output device; a moving mixer meter by itself does not establish that YouTube is receiving the right sound.

OBS documents Media Source looping and supported media types in its Media Sources guide. Test your specific files rather than assuming every container or codec will behave identically.

Elebase USB to USB C Adapter for iPhone 18 Pro Max,USBC Car Charger Adapter
  • Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
  • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

Set up a playlist of ocean recordings

  1. Install VLC if it is not already installed. In OBS, add a source with + → VLC Video. OBS notes that VLC must be installed for this source to appear; for 64-bit OBS, use a matching 64-bit VLC installation.
  2. Add the media files to the VLC Video playlist in the order you want them to play.
  3. Enable Loop Playlist to repeat the full list. Enable Shuffle Playlist only if you want the order to change.
  4. Play through the playlist and check transitions, audio levels, and the visual output. Confirm the source is actually active in the scene you will stream.

OBS describes the VLC Video source and its playlist controls in the Media Sources guide. Verify behavior with your files and scene; do not assume playback will continue in every visibility or scene-switching arrangement without testing.

Create a YouTube Live stream and connect OBS

  1. In YouTube Studio, select Create → Go Live. Use the Stream tab to create or configure an encoder stream, or use Manage if scheduling it. The current labels and available settings can change; follow the Live Control Room prompts.
  2. Copy the stream URL and stream key from YouTube Live Control Room into OBS’s streaming settings. Treat the stream key like a password: do not show it in a recording or share it. If it is exposed, replace it in YouTube Studio and update OBS.
  3. Start streaming from OBS. Wait for YouTube’s preview and check that the intended image and sound arrive. For a scheduled stream, follow any additional Go Live step shown in Live Control Room.
  4. Before a public launch, run a test with the privacy setting you intend to use. Check the watch page on another device, including mobile playback, and confirm the picture, audio, and looping behavior.
  5. When the test is satisfactory, set the intended audience and privacy options in YouTube Studio, then start the public broadcast using the controls shown there.

YouTube’s encoder instructions cover copying the stream URL and key, starting the encoder, and checking the preview: Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder. YouTube also recommends testing and monitoring the stream in its live streaming tips.

Keep a 24/7 stream running responsibly

A 24/7 plan is also an operations plan. With OBS running locally, the stream depends on that computer, its power, internet connection, source files, and OBS playback. Check the broadcast after launch: confirm the watch page remains available, sound and video continue cleanly, and the source has not stopped. If you are recording locally, check that the recording file is growing.

Plan what you will do if OBS closes, the computer restarts, the power or connection drops, or a file stops playing. The setup instructions do not establish a universal automatic recovery configuration for a local encoder, so test reconnect behavior on your own equipment before relying on unattended operation. A 24/7 broadcast is also not a guarantee that viewers will receive one complete 24-hour replay: YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived, but that does not establish full archiving for a longer continuous stream. If a complete replay matters, record locally or plan segments, and confirm YouTube’s current behavior. See YouTube’s encoder guidance. The YouTube API documentation’s 24/7 broadcast example describes a technical scenario, not a guarantee of uninterrupted operation or full replay.

Common problems and what to check

  • Live streaming is unavailable: check channel verification, live-stream eligibility, and any active restrictions. First-time activation may take up to 24 hours. YouTube lists an active copyright strike and a match to another copyrighted live broadcast among reasons a stream may be restricted. See live-streaming eligibility and live-streaming restrictions.
  • VLC Video is missing from OBS’s source menu: install VLC and ensure its architecture matches OBS; OBS calls for 64-bit VLC with 64-bit OBS. Then reopen OBS and check the source menu.
  • The file plays once and stops: open the Media Source properties and enable Loop. For multiple files, check Loop Playlist on the VLC Video source.
  • YouTube shows no preview or the wrong picture: confirm OBS is streaming to the stream URL and key shown for the intended YouTube stream, that the correct scene is active, and that the source is visible. Never publish or share the key.
  • The preview has no sound or the level is wrong: check the source’s audio output and OBS mixer, then listen to YouTube’s preview. A local meter does not confirm the remote preview. Recheck source levels and the media file’s audio track.
  • The stream stops when left unattended: check computer sleep settings, power, network stability, OBS status, and whether the source remains available. Test what happens after a disconnect or restart instead of assuming automatic recovery.
  • A claim or restriction appears: review the notice and your documented rights for the audio and visuals. Permission or a license does not guarantee that YouTube will never issue a claim.
  • The full-day replay is missing or incomplete: the under-12-hour archive rule does not promise a complete replay of a longer broadcast. Use local recording or segments when completeness is important, and verify current YouTube behavior.
