You can run a 24/7 ASMR tapping stream from a spare PC by sending a continuous scene—with your tapping audio and a stable image or live camera view—from encoder software such as OBS to YouTube Live Control Room. First confirm that your channel can go live, then configure the broadcast and stream key, test the sound and video, and keep the computer awake, powered, connected, and monitored. A spare PC can do the job, but these precautions reduce interruptions; they cannot guarantee uninterrupted service.
1. Confirm your channel can stream live
Before setting up the computer, check live-stream access in YouTube Studio. YouTube requires a verified channel and says it must not have had live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. If live access is unavailable, resolve that first rather than troubleshooting OBS. See YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility and setup guidance.

2. Create the YouTube broadcast and protect its key
- Open YouTube Studio and enter the Live Control Room. Choose encoder streaming and create or configure the broadcast for your intended stream.
- Copy the stream key into your encoder’s stream settings. Treat it like a password: anyone with access may be able to send video to your stream. Do not show it on screen, post it, or include it in a recording.
- Keep the broadcast and the incoming stream conceptually separate. The broadcast is the viewer-facing YouTube event; the stream is the audiovisual feed your encoder sends to it. Google’s developer documentation explains the distinction in Understanding Broadcasts and Streams.
Use YouTube’s current encoder recommendations when selecting output settings. There is no single resolution, bitrate, or encoder profile established as right for every spare PC and upload connection. Start with settings your computer and internet connection can sustain, then test rather than assuming the machine can handle a demanding configuration.
3. Build a simple scene in OBS
Choose what viewers will see
Create a scene with either a stable image or a live camera view, plus the tapping audio source. Keep the composition intentional: if the tapping is the focus, make sure the visual does not distract from it. Check that any image, video, or other media you use is yours or cleared for this use.

Set the encoder and verify output
Configure OBS or another encoder to send to YouTube using the stream key. Pick a supported encoder and output format according to YouTube’s current recommendations and your PC’s capabilities. OBS’s help portal offers general encoder guidance, including using an available hardware encoder for recordings when appropriate; that is not a specific 24/7 configuration prescription. Consult the OBS Help Portal for software guidance.
Test with a private or unlisted stream before making the setup public. Watch the YouTube preview and check for dropped frames, black video, audio delay, clipping, and unexpected silence. A local recording can help you inspect the scene and sound, but it does not verify the internet connection or YouTube ingest path.

4. Capture tapping audio that suits your room
Microphone choice and placement depend on the tapping tone you want and the room noise you need to manage. There is no required microphone type or validated model for this setup. A USB microphone is one possible route if it is compatible with the spare PC; it is not a requirement. Before relying on any setup, test the exact tapping objects, microphone position, and room conditions you plan to use.
- Listen for fan noise, traffic, hum, handling noise, and sounds from other people in the room.
- Check that tapping is clear without peaking or distortion, and that softer sounds remain audible.
- Secure the microphone and cable so routine movement will not dislodge them or block PC ports and airflow.
- Monitor the encoder’s audio meters and listen to a test stream or recording rather than judging by the meters alone.

5. Prepare the spare PC for continuous operation
- Disable sleep and hibernation for the planned streaming period, and confirm display shutoff will not suspend the PC.
- Use reliable power and a stable internet connection. If possible, avoid relying on a connection that other household activity regularly saturates.
- Keep the computer’s ventilation clear and avoid placing it where heat or dust buildup is likely.
- Check OBS and YouTube Live Control Room periodically for encoder disconnects, ingest problems, audio loss, or other failures. A running PC is not proof that the stream is still reaching viewers.
- Plan how you will respond if the PC, internet connection, encoder, or YouTube session stops. A spare PC still depends on those components and on monitoring.
6. Avoid copyright and audience-setting problems
Use original or cleared content
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. A match can replace the live picture with a placeholder, interrupt or terminate the stream, or lead to a strike. Even licensed material can be interrupted if the rights holder has not allowlisted your channel. Original tapping audio and visuals you own keep this risk simpler. Choose the audience setting accurately
Set whether the content is made for kids based on the content and applicable YouTube guidance—not to gain or avoid a feature. 7. Test the full setup before relying on it
- Start a private or unlisted test broadcast and confirm that YouTube receives the intended video and audio.
- Listen at the viewer end for noise, clipping, silence, and audio-video mismatch; make adjustments at the source or in the encoder.
- Leave the test running long enough to verify that the PC stays awake and the network and encoder remain connected under ordinary conditions.
- End the test, review any warnings or errors in the encoder and Live Control Room, and correct the cause before starting the public stream.
