Set the rendering width and height
Pass the dimensions as integer values in pixels:
wkhtmltoimage --width 1200 --height 800 input.html output.pngThis sets a 1200-pixel screen width and an 800-pixel screen height for rendering. The width is documented as a guideline by default, so the rendered layout may exceed it. To make the width strict, add --disable-smart-width:

Debian’s source for version 0.12.6-2 also registers the width, height, and smart-width flags. Behavior can vary by installed build, so check the output from the version you use: Ubuntu Noble wkhtmltoimage manual and Debian source.
Choose between screen dimensions and crop dimensions
Screen dimensions control the rendering window. Crop options select a bounded rectangle from the resulting image; they do not replace --width or --height.

For example, to render with a strict 1200-by-800 screen size and then request a crop of the same dimensions, specify both sets of options:
wkhtmltoimage --width 1200 --height 800 --disable-smart-width
--crop-w 1200 --crop-h 800 input.html output.pngUse crop options only when you need a defined output rectangle. A strict width or crop can clip content that extends beyond the chosen bounds.

Set dimensions without accidentally clipping content

Add
--crop-wand--crop-honly if the final image needs fixed crop bounds; use--crop-xand--crop-yto position that crop. -
Open the output and check for overflow or clipped content, especially when using strict width or a crop.

Troubleshoot unexpected dimensions
The output is wider than the requested width
--width is a guideline by default. Add --disable-smart-width to enforce the requested width. Check the output afterward: content that cannot fit may be clipped or otherwise not appear as intended.
The output height is not the value expected
Specify --height explicitly. If you omit it, wkhtmltoimage calculates height from page content.

The image has the right layout size but the wrong final bounds
Screen dimensions and crop dimensions control different things. Keep --width and --height for rendering; set crop size and origin with --crop-w, --crop-h, --crop-x, and --crop-y when a specific rectangle is required.
Flags behave differently on another machine
The cited Ubuntu manual describes package version 0.12.6-2build2, while the Debian source cited above is version 0.12.6-2. If output differs, check the installed build’s documentation and inspect the generated image rather than assuming all builds behave identically.
