Set Fortnite’s account controls through the game’s main menu or the child’s Epic Games account, then add console or device controls for screen time and payments. Epic’s account spending setting blocks purchases above the limit you choose, but Epic’s help pages do not establish one universal limit amount for every account or platform.
Start with the Epic account your child actually uses
Sign in to the child’s Epic Games account and open Parental Controls. If your child plays on a console, make sure the web account is the same Epic account linked to Fortnite on that console. Epic recommends comparing the account IDs if you are unsure.

You can also reach Fortnite’s parental controls from the game’s main menu. Epic’s account Parental Controls cover settings for Fortnite as well as the Epic Games Store and Launcher.
Recommended Free Tools
- Sign in to the child’s Epic Games account and select Parental Controls, or open Parental Controls from Fortnite’s main menu.
- Set a six-digit PIN when prompted, or enter the existing PIN to access the settings.
- Choose the controls and setting states you want, then review them to confirm they match your preferences.
The PIN is an access safeguard, not a restriction by itself. Epic says, “The PIN alone does not restrict your account: restrictions only apply based on the specific settings you choose.” Once set, the PIN cannot be removed, although individual restrictions can be turned off in the settings.

Set Fortnite spending limits
In Parental Controls, review the spending options and select the available limit that suits your family. Epic says purchases over the account’s configured spending limit will be blocked. Some controls determine which choices are available to the child rather than setting a specific value directly.
Epic’s published help does not specify a single limit amount or a complete list of available amounts for every account, platform, or region. Open the child’s controls to see what is available for that account; do not assume an Epic account limit also controls payments billed through a console or mobile store.

Add payment and screen-time controls on the device
Epic account settings and platform controls are separate layers. Use the console, computer, or mobile device’s family settings for platform-level payments and screen time. These can further restrict use or purchases beyond Fortnite’s account settings.

- An Epic Games account is required to redeem an Epic Games Store Card code
- If playing on a console platform (PlayStation Network, Xbox Live, Nintendo Switch or Mobile) you need to link your Epic Games account to that gaming platform (one time) to redeem your gift card code
- The 16 digit code on the back of the card WILL NOT work if redeemed directly through your gaming platform (PlayStation Network, Xbox Live, Nintendo Switch, Mobile, etc.)
- Note: Nintendo devices do not support Fortnite Shared Wallet, so V-Bucks purchased using your account balance will not show up on your Nintendo device. However, if you purchase items in the web Item Shop — or another platform where you play Fortnite — those items will be available in your Locker across all platforms.

Set Fortnite and UEFN time limits
Epic Time Limit Controls can set a daily time allowance, define allowed play windows, and—in supported settings—set separate limits and windows for Play and Create. Parents can also choose whether the child may request more time. These controls cover Fortnite and Unreal Editor for Fortnite (UEFN).
Play Time means playing Fortnite experiences. Create Time means creating in Fortnite Creative or UEFN, including playtesting unpublished UEFN islands. With the same Epic account, Epic’s time limits apply across consoles and devices. Device or console time limits are separate and may be stricter.

If Play and Create have separate limits, reaching the Play allowance does not necessarily stop the child from creating; Create Time can remain available until its own limit is reached.
If a setting or purchase option is unavailable
Check whether the account is a Cabined Account awaiting parental consent. For a child under 13—or below the region’s age of digital consent, if that age is higher—Epic may restrict features while consent is pending. Real-money purchases and voice or free-text chat are unavailable in that state until the parent completes account setup and provides consent.

For communication settings, Epic’s controls also include an option to allow voice and written communication with AI Features. Review that option alongside chat permissions if you are setting communication rules.
