You can configure Windows to open OBS when you sign in and configure OBS to start streaming, but that does not guarantee YouTube will publish the intended playlist unattended. Set up and verify each link in the chain: Windows launches OBS, OBS sends video to the correct YouTube broadcast, and OBS captures a playlist that is playing and looping. Rehearse the whole setup before relying on it.
What needs to happen
There are four separate jobs: Windows must launch OBS at sign-in; OBS must start its encoder output; YouTube must accept that connection and use the intended broadcast settings; and OBS must receive both the playlist’s picture and sound. A failure at any step can leave you with an open OBS window but no live stream, or a stream with no playlist content.

Set up OBS to start streaming
Connect OBS to YouTube first
-
Open OBS and run the Auto-Configuration Wizard if you need help choosing initial settings. It takes your computer resources and network conditions into account, so treat its result as a starting point rather than a guaranteed ideal for every connection. See the OBS Auto-Configuration Wizard documentation.

In OBS, configure streaming for YouTube. If a YouTube service integration is available in your installed OBS version, select it and follow its connection flow. Otherwise, get the stream URL and stream key from YouTube Studio and enter them in OBS’s stream settings. YouTube documents both encoder connection approaches in its encoder setup instructions. Keep the stream key private; anyone with access to it may be able to send a stream to your channel.

If live streaming has not been enabled on the channel before, enable it in YouTube Studio and allow for activation time. YouTube says first-time live-stream enablement may take up to 24 hours. Check the channel’s eligibility and current Studio prompts rather than assuming the feature is ready immediately.
Add the automatic-streaming launch parameter
-
Create a Windows shortcut to OBS, or edit the shortcut you intend to use. In its Properties, append
--startstreamingto the executable path in the Target field, outside the closing quotation mark. For example:"C:Program Filesobs-studiobin64bitobs64.exe" --startstreaming. Your OBS installation path may differ. -
If Windows or another automation method launches OBS on a schedule, set the shortcut’s Start in field to the folder containing
obs64.exe. OBS specifically calls for this working directory when OBS is launched through scheduled tasks or other automated means. See OBS Launch Parameters.Quick wins for a faster PC:

Test the shortcut by double-clicking it while signed in. Confirm OBS opens the intended profile and scene and begins sending the stream. The launch parameter starts OBS streaming; it does not, by itself, select a YouTube broadcast, make a playlist play, or establish that YouTube has made the stream public.
Make Windows launch the shortcut at sign-in
For a straightforward sign-in launch, place the OBS shortcut in the Windows Startup folder for your account. Press Windows+R, enter shell:startup, and press Enter. Move or copy the configured shortcut into the folder that opens. This is a Windows startup-folder workflow; OBS’s launch-parameter documentation covers the shortcut argument and working directory, not a built-in OBS toggle for Windows startup.

Sign out and back in, or restart Windows, to check that the shortcut opens OBS as expected. A sign-in launch runs when that Windows account signs in; it is not the same as a service that starts before sign-in or guarantees operation after a crash or power loss.
Prepare and capture the YouTube playlist
Choose and verify the YouTube broadcast
In YouTube Studio, create or select the intended live stream and check its current broadcast settings. Depending on the channel and setup, YouTube may require an additional Studio action or may use an auto-start setting. YouTube’s encoder instructions describe starting the encoder as the go-live step, while an older OBS community guide discusses scheduled-broadcast auto-start; do not assume that guide’s controls or labels are still present. Verify the current behavior in your own Studio account and confirm whether YouTube publishes immediately or waits for a Studio action.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteStart the playlist and confirm OBS receives it
-
Open the intended YouTube playlist in a desktop browser and start playback. Use the Loop control in the playlist box to repeat the playlist; YouTube explains this control in its playlist help.
-
Configure an OBS source that captures the playlist’s visible video, and configure Windows/OBS audio so the playlist sound reaches the stream. The exact source and audio-routing choice depends on your Windows and OBS setup; the cited OBS and YouTube instructions do not establish one universally reliable unattended capture method. Check OBS’s audio meters and preview, then verify the received picture and sound in YouTube Studio.
-
Keep the browser, playlist, and capture source in the state your scene expects. A playlist that is paused, blocked by a prompt, or not visible to the selected capture source will not provide the content you intend to stream.

Rehearse before enabling unattended startup
Run a complete manual rehearsal before leaving this setup to run on its own. Use a private or unlisted test broadcast, or another controlled test appropriate to your channel, and check each link rather than relying on the OBS status alone.
-
Restart Windows or sign out and back in. Confirm OBS opens with the intended profile and scene.
-
Confirm the playlist is playing, advances to the next item, and loops.
-
Check in OBS that the selected source shows the playlist and its audio meters respond.

Check YouTube Studio for incoming video and audio, the selected broadcast, and whether it is sending data or actually public.
-
Confirm that you have permission to rebroadcast every item in the playlist, including music and other third-party material.
Copyright and YouTube live-stream interruptions
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. A match may interrupt or terminate the stream. Having a license may not be enough on its own: YouTube says the rights owner may also need to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist for licensed material to avoid an interruption. Review YouTube’s copyright guidance for live streams, and confirm that your permissions cover the live broadcast and any resulting archive. Do not assume that music being available to play on YouTube means it can be rebroadcast through your channel.
Troubleshooting
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| OBS opens, but streaming does not start | The shortcut argument is missing, mistyped, or attached to the wrong shortcut; OBS may also be unable to connect to YouTube. | Check that --startstreaming follows the quoted executable path in Target. Open OBS and inspect its stream settings and connection status. |
| Windows does not open OBS at sign-in | The shortcut is not in the current account’s Startup folder, or the shortcut points to an invalid OBS path. | Open shell:startup for the account that signs in and confirm the shortcut is there and opens OBS when run manually. |
| OBS starts but shows a black or frozen playlist | The playlist is not playing, the capture source does not show the browser content, or the browser state differs from the scene’s assumptions. | Start playback, check the OBS preview and source visibility, and repeat the sign-in rehearsal with the browser and playlist in the expected state. |
| YouTube receives video but no sound | OBS is not capturing the browser or desktop audio, or the relevant audio source is muted. | Check OBS audio meters while playlist audio plays, inspect mute states and audio-source configuration, and verify the received sound in Studio. |
| OBS sends data, but the stream is not public | The selected broadcast or YouTube auto-start/confirmation behavior differs from what you expected. | Inspect the broadcast in YouTube Studio and verify the current account’s required go-live action and visibility settings. |
| The live stream is interrupted or terminated | YouTube may have detected third-party content, including material for which the channel is not allowlisted. | Review the alert and rights status, confirm permissions, and ask the rights owner about Content ID allowlisting where applicable. |
| OBS fails to launch reliably through automation | The automated launch may lack the expected working directory. | Set the shortcut’s Start in field to the folder containing obs64.exe, as OBS specifies for automated launches. |
