How to Set Google as Your Homepage in Microsoft Edge

Turn on Edge’s Home button and set its destination to Google. Startup and new-tab pages use separate settings.

To make Google open when you select Edge’s Home button, go to Settings and more (…) > Settings > Start, home, and new tab page, turn on Show home button on the toolbar, and enter https://www.google.com as the home-page URL. This changes the Home button destination; startup and new-tab behavior have separate settings.

Microsoft’s instructions apply to the new Microsoft Edge on Windows 10 and Windows 11. The setting is built into Edge and does not require an add-on or paid service. Microsoft’s home-page instructions describe choosing either a new-tab page or a URL after enabling the Home button.

Home button, startup, and new tabs are different

Edge treats these as separate behaviors. The homepage is what opens when you select the Home button. The startup setting controls what Edge opens when the browser launches, while new-tab settings control the page shown when you open a tab. Setting Google as the Home button destination does not automatically set Google for startup or every new tab. If you want one of those behaviors, configure its corresponding setting separately under Start, home, and new tab page. Microsoft explains the separate browser options in its Edge overview.
