To remove Epic Games Store’s download cap: open the Epic Games Launcher, open Settings, scroll to Download Settings, clear Limit Download Speeds, then restart the Launcher before trying the download again. If you intentionally need to reserve bandwidth for other devices, you can set a cap instead through Download Manager. Removing the checkbox only removes a Launcher-imposed constraint; it cannot increase your internet plan, repair an Epic service problem, overcome weak Wi-Fi, or make a disk install faster.
Turn off the download speed limit
The limit is an Epic Games Launcher setting, not a Windows-wide internet setting. Epic’s support guidance says removing it may help when Launcher downloads are slow, but it does not promise a particular speed increase.

- Open the Epic Games Launcher.
- Open Settings from the top-right controls. Depending on the Launcher build, the entry may be represented by a settings icon beside your profile or reached through the profile control.
- Scroll to Download Settings.
- Clear the Limit Download Speeds checkbox.
- Close and restart the Epic Games Launcher.
- Start the installation or update again and watch the transfer graph.
The durable path is Launcher Settings → Download Settings. Icon placement and wording around the top-right control can vary between builds, so use the current labels in your copy of the Launcher rather than looking for a particular symbol.

Epic specifically tells users to restart the Launcher after removing the limit. A restart makes the changed download setting apply to a new Launcher session. If you only untick the box and leave the existing session running, the current transfer may continue using its previous state.

If the checkbox is missing
Do not assume the setting has been removed simply because you cannot see it on the first screen. Scroll through the full Settings page, look for the Download Settings heading, and check Download Manager as an alternate route. Epic has shown slightly different top-right controls in different support renderings, so the icon may not look identical to screenshots found online.
Set a cap deliberately when other devices need bandwidth
A limit is useful when a game download is competing with video calls, streaming, work traffic, cloud backups, or other people’s devices. The cap constrains the Launcher’s transfer rate so that the connection has room for those activities. Epic does not publish a universally correct number, so choose a value based on what the rest of your household or network needs.
- Open the Launcher’s Download Manager from the bottom-left corner.
- Select Download Settings.
- Find the download-speed control and enable Limit Download Speeds.
- Enter or select the limit offered by your current Launcher interface.
- Apply the setting and start, resume, or schedule the download.
Use the cap as a traffic-management choice, not as a performance tweak. A lower value makes the game download take longer by design. If you later want the Launcher to use all available capacity, return to the same Download Settings area, clear the checkbox, and restart the Launcher before retrying.

The control can apply to new game installs as well as updates. If several items are queued, the limit affects the Launcher’s download activity rather than changing the speed of your entire household connection.
Fix the IS-INFO-THROTTLED message
Epic identifies IS-INFO-THROTTLED as a sign that a download throttle was previously selected. The direct fix is:
- Open Download Manager from the Launcher’s bottom-left corner.
- Select Download Settings.
- Under Download Speed, clear Limit Download Speeds.
- Restart the Epic Games Launcher.
If the message remains after the restart, continue with the connection and configuration checks below. The code points to a selected throttle; it does not establish that every slowdown has the same cause.
Choose between an uncapped and capped download

Epic’s support pages document the control but do not provide a recommended cap value, a maximum rate, or a measured average improvement after disabling it. Treat any speed change you observe as dependent on your own connection, service conditions, computer, and storage.

Your internet plan is commonly advertised in megabits per second, while a Launcher or operating-system graph may display megabytes per second. Those are different units, so do not compare the digits directly without checking the labels. A changing graph also reflects short-term activity; a brief peak or dip is not a reliable measure of the whole download.

Understand a speed graph that falls to zero
A zero reading is not automatically a failed network transfer. Epic explains: “After you download some files, the Epic Games Launcher can stop downloading depending on your disk speed because it is installing the downloaded files to the disk.” Large games are downloaded in pieces, checked, unpacked, and written to storage. During a disk-writing phase, the network portion can pause while installation catches up.
Read the graph instead of judging one number
- Look for the graph’s read and write activity, not only the instantaneous download figure.
- If disk writing is busy while network downloading is at or near zero, the Launcher is likely installing data already received.
- Downloading should resume after the write operation completes.
- A repeated zero with no meaningful disk activity, an error, or a stalled progress indicator warrants the broader troubleshooting sequence.
A fast internet connection cannot remove a storage bottleneck. An older or heavily occupied drive may spend more time installing compressed game files, making the transfer appear intermittent even when the network is functioning.
Interrupting the process at every zero can make diagnosis harder. Give the current write phase time to finish, then compare the progress total and disk activity again. If the progress advances in bursts, that pattern is consistent with alternating network and installation work rather than proof that the cap is active.

Epic Games Store Support’s troubleshooting guidance, checked October 13, 2026, covers service status, connection type, cache, the download-limit setting, domain access, DNS, and proxies. Work through these as diagnostic options rather than guaranteed speed boosts; different failures can produce similar symptoms.
1. Check Epic service status
Look at Epic’s official service-status information for an outage, degradation, or maintenance affecting downloads or account services. If the service is impaired, local setting changes will not restore normal transfer rates. Retry after the incident is resolved.
2. Try wired Ethernet
If your computer and router have Ethernet ports, connect them with a suitable Ethernet cable and retry. A wired connection removes the local wireless link as a variable and is one of Epic’s suggested checks. It cannot fix an Epic service outage, an ISP limit, a disk-writing pause, or every other network problem. If Ethernet is not practical, move closer to the access point and reduce competing wireless traffic as a separate diagnostic, without treating either change as a guaranteed cure.
3. Test another internet connection
When available, try a different connection, such as a trusted alternate network. A materially different result helps isolate a router, ISP, Wi-Fi, or local-network issue from a Launcher or service issue. Do not assume that a single successful test proves the original connection is defective; conditions can change during the test.

4. Clear the device or Launcher cache
Epic includes clearing the device cache among its troubleshooting options. Use the cache-clearing procedure appropriate for your operating system and current Launcher release, then reopen the Launcher and test again. Cache clearing is a diagnostic step, not a promise of higher throughput, and it should not be confused with deleting installed games. If you are following a device-specific procedure, close the Launcher first and preserve any work from other applications.

5. Confirm the cap is really off
Return to Settings → Download Settings and verify that Limit Download Speeds is clear. You can also inspect Download Manager → Download Settings, particularly if you encountered IS-INFO-THROTTLED. Restart the Launcher after changing the control.
6. Check access to Epic domains
Security software, firewalls, DNS filters, or managed networks can block or interfere with Epic domains. Epic recommends making sure its domains are whitelisted. Apply that change only in software or network equipment you administer, and use the current domain list and instructions from Epic rather than copying an outdated list. On a work, school, or family-managed network, ask the administrator instead of weakening a policy yourself.
7. Flush DNS or try a public DNS service
Stale or failing DNS resolution can prevent reliable access to download endpoints. Epic lists flushing DNS or switching to a public DNS service as possible checks. Follow the current procedure for your operating system or router, record the original DNS values before changing them, and test again after the change. A DNS change affects name resolution; it does not add bandwidth to the connection.
8. Disable proxy servers temporarily
Epic also recommends disabling proxy servers as a troubleshooting step. Check the operating system and network settings for a configured proxy, turn it off temporarily if you are authorized to do so, and retry. On a managed work or school network, a proxy may be required; do not remove a required policy without the administrator’s approval. Restore the proxy afterward if the test does not identify it as the cause.
9. Recheck storage and other local activity
If the graph shows heavy disk writing, allow the installation phase to finish before judging the network. Close unnecessary applications that are reading from or writing to the same drive, and make sure the destination has adequate free space. These observations help distinguish a storage pause from a transfer cap without claiming that every disk-related slowdown has one fix.
10. Change one variable at a time
For a useful diagnosis, note the cap state, connection type, approximate graph behavior, and whether disk writing is active before each test. Changing DNS, proxy settings, Wi-Fi, and cache simultaneously can hide which change mattered. Return settings to their original values when a test is complete and no benefit appears.
Use Download Manager to control more than speed
Download Manager is not only an entry point for the cap. Epic says it can also help you:
- Prioritize titles and reorder multiple downloads.
- Schedule automatic updates.
- Choose whether games may update while you are playing.
- Configure completion notifications.
- Change the default installation directory.
- View current and recent download status.
- Review download history for the past 14 days.
Those controls improve scheduling and visibility, but none proves that a speed cap is active. Use the Download Settings checkbox to diagnose throttling; use the other controls to decide when and where transfers run. Scheduling an update for a quieter period can reduce contention without changing the cap at all.

What removing the cap will—and will not—solve
It can remove one configured constraint
When the checkbox is enabled, the Launcher is instructed to limit its download speed. Clearing it and restarting removes that particular constraint. This is the narrow, documented reason to try the change when a download seems slower than expected.
It cannot create capacity that is not available
Your actual rate can still be limited by the internet connection, congestion, Wi-Fi interference, router performance, Epic’s service conditions, DNS or proxy configuration, computer resources, or the speed at which the destination drive can install files. Epic’s support guidance does not promise that removing the checkbox will fix any specific reader’s connection.
It may make the connection feel busier
An uncapped download can use more of the available connection. If calls, streaming, browsing, or other devices become less responsive, re-enable a deliberate cap and choose a value that leaves usable headroom. The right value depends on your connection and competing traffic; Epic does not publish a one-size-fits-all recommendation.

Does an Ethernet cable guarantee faster Epic downloads?
No. Epic lists wired Ethernet as a diagnostic option because it removes the Wi-Fi link as a variable. It cannot correct an Epic outage, ISP restriction, storage pause, or every router or network problem.

- Verify the checkbox state in Launcher Settings and, when relevant, Download Manager settings.
- Restart the Launcher after removing or changing the cap.
- Watch disk read/write activity before treating a zero graph as a network failure.
