To change a case fan’s speed on a GIGABYTE motherboard, open BIOS/UEFI fan controls, select the header the fan is connected to, confirm the control mode, and choose a preset or temperature-based curve. The exact menu and shortcut vary by motherboard and BIOS version: on the GIGABYTE 600-series BIOS documented in its Smart Fan 6 manual, F6 opens Smart Fan 6. Check your own board’s manual before following that shortcut.
Before changing the fan setting
- Identify your motherboard model and hardware revision. Use the matching support page and manual; GIGABYTE’s menus and available controls vary by board and BIOS. For example, the manufacturer provides separate support pages for the B760M H (Rev. 1.0) and B650 UD AC (Rev. 1.0).
- Find the fan’s motherboard header. Case fans are often connected to a SYS_FAN header. Fan controls apply to a particular header, so identify the one in use rather than changing a different fan’s settings.
- Check the fan connector. GIGABYTE’s cited manuals recommend Voltage mode for a 3-pin fan and PWM mode for a 4-pin fan. Auto can detect the fan type on the documented boards.
Set the case fan speed in BIOS/UEFI
- Enter BIOS/UEFI. Restart the computer and use the key shown during startup or in your motherboard manual to enter setup. The entry key can differ by system.
- Open the fan-control screen. In the cited 600-series BIOS manual, press F6 to open Smart Fan 6; the H510M-H manual also documents F6 for its fan screen. If that shortcut or screen is absent, follow the instructions for your exact motherboard rather than assuming Smart Fan 6 is available.
- Select the header connected to the case fan. Choose the corresponding SYS_FAN or other listed header. The available headers depend on the board.
- Set or verify the control mode. Choose Auto if you are unsure and the option is available. Otherwise, match the mode to the connector: Voltage for 3-pin or PWM for 4-pin, as recommended in GIGABYTE’s 600-series BIOS manual and H510M-H manual.
- Choose a preset or Manual. The cited Smart Fan 6 documentation describes these behaviors; names and availability may differ on other boards.
- If you choose Manual, adjust the curve. Set the fan-speed points against temperature and select an available temperature input. The curve controls how fan speed changes as the selected temperature rises; available sensors and curve controls vary by board.
- Save and verify. Apply the settings using the BIOS save/exit controls, then check the fan-speed readout and confirm the fan responds as expected. The save flow is model-specific.
Choose a preset or curve behavior
GIGABYTE describes the following options in its cited Smart Fan 6 manual. They represent different control behaviors, not measured noise or temperature results.

| Setting | Documented behavior | Useful when |
|---|---|---|
| Normal | Fan speed changes with temperature. | You want temperature-responsive control without setting curve points yourself. |
| Silent | Runs the fan at slower speeds. | You want to prioritize lower fan speeds, while keeping an eye on cooling. |
| Manual | Lets you adjust curve points to map temperature to fan speed. | You want to choose how the fan responds as temperature changes. |
| Full Speed | Runs the fan at full speed. | You want maximum fan speed rather than a quieter, slower profile. |
Some documented boards also offer Slope and Stair curve behavior. GIGABYTE describes Slope as a linear curve and Stair as holding a speed across a temperature interval; these controls are not universal. The B760M H support page and B650 UD AC support page are starting points for locating the corresponding model documentation.

- Fan speed is unchanged: Confirm you selected the header the fan actually uses, saved the BIOS settings, and chose a mode compatible with the fan connector.
- The fan-control screen or Smart Fan 6 is missing: Your board may use another interface or may not offer that feature. Check its model- and revision-specific manual for the fan-control menu and shortcut.
- The fan behaves erratically or does not run: Recheck the connector type and control mode. The cited GIGABYTE manuals distinguish the Voltage recommendation for 3-pin fans from PWM for 4-pin fans; consult your board manual if Auto or the matching mode does not resolve the behavior.
There is no universal curve temperature or percentage established for every system. Choose settings based on your hardware’s cooling needs and preferred noise behavior, then monitor the fan and system temperatures under your normal workload.
