To make Brave Origin your default on GrapheneOS, update the Brave app to version 1.91 or later, activate Origin in Brave, then go to Settings > Apps > Default apps > Browser and choose Brave. Origin is an upgrade within the Brave app, not a separate Android app. This setting routes browser links and Custom Tabs to Brave; it does not replace GrapheneOS’s Vanadium System WebView for pages embedded inside apps.
1. Update Brave and activate Origin
-
Install Brave if it is not already on the device, then update it to version 1.91 or later. Brave lists Android 1.91.x and later as compatible with Origin; see the Brave Origin help page.

Brave Origin changes the Brave app you already have rather than installing a second browser. Brave says regular Brave remains free and supported, while Origin is the paid option for people who want selected optional features removed or disabled. Check Brave’s current feature and purchase details before deciding whether the upgrade suits you.
2. Set Brave as GrapheneOS’s browser default
-
Open the device’s Settings.
-
Tap Apps > Default apps > Browser.
-
Select Brave.
GrapheneOS forum guidance describes this choice as applying to browser links and Custom Tabs. Menu names can vary slightly across Android and GrapheneOS builds; the relevant control is the Browser entry under Default apps. See the GrapheneOS discussion of default browsers.

What this default changes—and what it does not
Choosing Brave sets it as the user-facing browser for links and Custom Tabs that use the system browser choice. It does not change the WebView that apps use to display web pages inside their own screens. GrapheneOS provides Vanadium as its System WebView implementation, separately from the default-browser selection. See the GrapheneOS features overview and usage guide.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesAs a result, an embedded page may still use Vanadium WebView after Brave is selected. That does not by itself mean the default-browser setting failed, and you do not need to remove or disable Vanadium to choose Brave as your browser.
