Coinbase, Kraken, and TradingView each offer alert controls, but availability and setup vary by platform and interface. A price alert is a notification—not an automatic trade.
What a Bitcoin price alert does—and does not do
A price alert tells you when Bitcoin reaches a condition you specify. It does not buy or sell Bitcoin, and it does not guarantee that you will see or act on the notification immediately. Coinbase states explicitly that its alerts “are only notifications that an asset has reached a certain price” and “do not place an order for that asset.” Coinbase Help: Set and receive price alerts

Think of an alert as a prompt to review a decision, not as a trading strategy. The platforms document alert controls, but do not establish an empirically optimal threshold or number of alerts.

No single option is established as best for everyone. Check that your preferred interface supports the trigger and delivery controls you intend to use.

Set a Bitcoin alert on Coinbase mobile
- Search for Bitcoin and select it.
- Tap the star icon to add Bitcoin to your watchlist. Coinbase says only watchlisted assets send price alerts.
- Tap the bell-plus icon, choose Add Alert, select whether the alert should trigger above or below a price, enter the target, and save.
- To choose delivery and frequency, go to Account & Settings > Notification Settings. For predetermined alerts, open Price Alerts and set a frequency. For custom alerts, open Custom Alerts. Toggle push, in-app, and/or email according to your preference.
- To remove an alert, open the relevant Price Alerts or Custom Alerts section and use its three-dot menu.
Coinbase describes its price alerts as informational and not investment advice. Its separate notification settings guide also notes that some important account or security alerts may still be sent when other notification types are disabled. Coinbase Help: Manage notifications
Set a Bitcoin alert on Kraken
On the web
- Open the Alerts widget and enable browser notifications if you want alerts delivered in the browser.
- Create an alert, choose the market, and set its trigger parameters. Enter a target price or use a percentage adjustment.
In the mobile app
- Allow push notifications both in your device settings and in the Kraken app.
- Open the alert modal from the Markets bell, or long-tap a market or open order.
- Set the market and trigger parameters for the alert.
Use the active and historical alert lists to inspect alerts; active ones can be edited or deleted. Kraken Desktop documents alert syncing across Kraken Pro and mobile apps. Futures alerts have an interface limitation: they cannot currently be created in the app. An alert created on web can still reach your phone when mobile price-alert pushes are enabled, but its notification may not link to the correct market page. Set a Bitcoin alert in TradingView
- Open Supercharts and select the BTC symbol you want to monitor.
- Create an alert from the toolbar, Alert manager, chart context menu, price scale, or keyboard shortcut.
- Choose the condition and trigger frequency. For a single notification rather than repeat triggers, choose Only once.
- Set an expiration date. The configuration offers an expiration timer; standard alerts last up to two months, while Premium and Ultimate plans offer an open-ended option.
- Select only the delivery actions you need, such as app notification, pop-up, email, webhook, sound, or plain text.

Reduce alert noise without missing the alerts you care about
- Tie each threshold to a decision. Set an alert only when reaching that price would make you review something specific; do not add alerts just because the platform allows them.
- Use one primary delivery channel. Add another only when duplicate delivery serves a clear purpose.
- Prefer a one-time trigger or expiry when available. This prevents an old condition from continuing to notify indefinitely. TradingView offers both controls; other services may differ.
- Review and remove stale alerts. Kraken provides active and historical lists plus edit and delete controls; Coinbase documents deletion from notification settings.
- Keep market alerts distinct from security alerts. Some account or security notifications may still be sent even when other Coinbase notification types are disabled.
- Check device and browser permissions. A platform’s alert settings alone may not be enough: Kraken requires browser notification permission for web alerts and enabled device-level and in-app permissions for mobile push.
These controls help limit unnecessary messages, but they are not a guarantee against every interruption. Actual delivery depends on the service settings and, in some cases, device or browser permissions.
