How to set a timer on iPhone

Tap Start.
You can also ask Siri to set a timer, such as: “Set the timer for 3 minutes.” Apple says a timer continues while you use another app or while the iPhone is asleep. Apple’s iPhone timer instructions also cover pausing, resuming, and managing multiple timers.

Why won’t my iPhone timer sound?
Check the timer’s end action
In Clock, open Timers and inspect When Timer Ends. Choose an audible sound if you want an alert. If Stop Playing is selected, the timer is set to stop audio or video playback when it ends, not to play an end tone.
Distinguish timer settings from alarm settings
Apple’s alarm guidance says alarm volume is adjusted in Settings > Sounds & Haptics, and that an alarm sound should not be set to None. That guidance is specifically for alarms; Apple’s timer instructions do not establish a complete timer-volume troubleshooting procedure. Apple’s alarm support article should not be treated as proof that the same settings or rules apply to timers.

Silent mode and Do Not Disturb
Apple says Silent mode and Do Not Disturb do not affect alarm sound. Its timer instructions do not make the same claim for timers, so that alarm behavior does not establish what will happen to a timer alert.

Use a timer to stop playback
To stop audio or video automatically, set a timer in Clock, tap When Timer Ends, choose Stop Playing, tap Set, and start the timer. Use an actual sound option instead when you want an audible alert at the end.

Pause, resume, add, or remove timers
After starting a timer, use the controls on the Timers screen to pause or resume it. Apple also documents adding custom, preset, or recently used timers, and removing timers from the Timers screen or clearing them from the Lock Screen.
