Set the timeout on each page.goto() call inside your URL loop: await page.goto(url, { timeout: 15_000 }). The value is in milliseconds, and this navigation timeout applies to that URL’s navigation—not automatically to screenshot capture or the whole script.
Set a separate navigation timeout inside the URL loop
Pass timeout in the options object for page.goto(). This gives each navigation its own limit. The example below allows 15 seconds for each URL and continues to the next one if a navigation or screenshot operation throws an error.

Choose the right navigation completion condition
The timeout bounds the wait for the condition selected by waitUntil. Playwright lists load as the default, and also supports domcontentloaded, networkidle, and commit.
domcontentloadedis useful when the document has been parsed and your workflow does not require waiting for every resource to finish.loadwaits for the load event and is the default.networkidlewaits for network activity to become idle; Playwright discourages relying on it for testing. Pages with persistent network activity may not reach this state within your limit.commitcompletes when the navigation response has been committed, which is earlier than waiting for the full page load.
Choose based on what the screenshot needs to contain. A navigation can satisfy its chosen condition while images, animations, or other content you care about still need additional handling.
Understand timeout scope and precedence
Playwright offers defaults at several levels. Use the per-call setting when URLs in one loop need different limits; defaults are useful when a shared policy is intended.

What a navigation timeout does not cover
A page.goto() timeout limits that navigation’s wait. It does not, by itself, set an end-to-end deadline for the full loop, screenshot capture, or later processing. If the whole workflow needs a runtime budget, define and enforce that separately; do not assume the navigation option bounds every operation.
The loop’s try/catch makes the example continue after an error, but it does not impose a timeout on page.screenshot(). Decide separately how your script should handle a screenshot failure, record it, and move on.

Troubleshoot common timeout problems
The next URL never starts after a timeout
Check that the navigation is inside a try/catch within the loop. Without per-URL error handling, a rejected navigation promise can stop the loop before later URLs are processed.

Check which waitUntil condition you selected. Waiting for load or networkidle can take longer than waiting for domcontentloaded or commit. Choose the earliest condition that is sufficient for your capture, then handle any required page readiness explicitly.
Changing the general default does not affect navigation as expected
A navigation-specific default takes priority over page.setDefaultTimeout(). Also check for a page-level setting overriding a browser-context default. For a single exceptional URL, setting timeout directly on its goto() call avoids ambiguity.

The overall script still runs too long
Per-navigation limits can bound each navigation, but the loop also performs screenshots and any other processing. Add a separate overall workflow budget if you need a total runtime limit.
