On iPhone, set your Apple Pay default card and shipping/contact details in Settings > Wallet & Apple Pay > Apple Pay Defaults > Transaction Defaults. A card’s billing address is separate and is changed from that card in Wallet. For Google Pay contactless payments, open the card in the Google Wallet app and choose Make default for tap to pay. Google’s instructions describe card billing details for issuer verification, not a universal wallet-level shipping address.
Apple Pay on iPhone: change the default card and shipping or contact details
Apple groups the default card, shipping address, email address, and phone number under transaction defaults. To change them:
As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
- Open Settings.
- Tap Wallet & Apple Pay.
- Tap Apple Pay Defaults.
- Under Transaction Defaults, select the default card and update the shipping address, email address, or phone number as needed.
These are transaction defaults; they are not the same setting as the billing address attached to an individual payment card. See Apple’s iPhone Wallet & Apple Pay settings guide.

Apple Pay on iPhone: change a card’s billing address
- Open the Wallet app and tap the relevant payment card.
- Tap More, then Card Details.
- Tap Billing Address.
- Select an existing address or tap Enter New Billing Address.
Apple says billing, shipping, and contact information entered for a card is stored for Apple Pay; a merchant may also allow you to update details during app or online checkout. On iOS or iPadOS 15 and earlier, Card Details may not appear as described in the current instructions. See Apple’s Apple Pay information update guide.

Google Pay: set the Google Wallet tap-to-pay default card
Google’s current help uses Google Wallet as the app name. The default in these instructions is the card used for contactless tap-to-pay, not a general default for every online or in-app payment.
- Open Google Wallet and swipe to the card you want to use.
- Tap the card.
- At the bottom, tap Details.
- Tap Make default for tap to pay. The wording may vary slightly by locale.
The first payment method added becomes the initial contactless default. You can use another card for a particular tap by opening that card before paying. Google documents a restriction for store or private-label credit cards: one can be the default only if it is the only card added. See Google Wallet’s default payment method instructions.
Google Wallet addresses: what the setting does—and does not—cover
Google’s cited instructions cover the contactless default card and billing details associated with adding a card. They do not describe an Apple-style wallet-wide default shipping address. During card setup, the name, CVC, and billing address should match the information on file with the bank. If setup fails over card or address details, check those records and confirm that both the card and issuer support Google Wallet. A physical card’s contactless capability alone does not guarantee Wallet compatibility. See Google’s instructions for adding a debit or credit card.

Changing the selected default card does not, by itself, make a phone ready for contactless payment. Google lists these requirements:
- NFC is turned on.
- Google Wallet is selected as the phone’s default NFC wallet app.
- The card and country are supported for contactless payments.
- The phone has a screen lock and meets Google’s security requirements.
A suspended card or one that has not completed setup may require issuer verification or help from the bank. Check Google’s full tap-to-pay requirements and troubleshooting.

If the wrong card was charged, check which card has the contactless-default mark in Wallet. If the default card is declined, Google advises contacting the bank about the account; if the bank finds no account issue, contact the retailer. The selected default card is the one Wallet uses at tap-to-pay terminals.
Quick distinction: card billing versus transaction defaults
| Wallet and setting | What it controls | Where to change it |
|---|---|---|
| Apple Pay on iPhone: default card | Default card and transaction shipping/contact details | Settings > Wallet & Apple Pay > Apple Pay Defaults > Transaction Defaults; Apple guide |
| Apple Pay on iPhone: billing address | Billing address for a specific payment card | Wallet > card > More > Card Details > Billing Address; Apple guide |
| Google Wallet on phone: default card | Card used for contactless tap-to-pay | Card > Details > Make default for tap to pay; Google guide |
| Google Wallet on phone: billing details | Card setup details that should match the bank’s records | Enter or verify them when adding the card; Google guide |
Menu names, feature availability, and supported cards can vary by operating-system version, device, region, language, and issuer. Google also requires a supported country and card for tap-to-pay.
