For better battery life on a Nintendo Switch 2, start by lowering handheld brightness to a level you can still see comfortably and choosing an auto-sleep interval that fits your breaks. For comfort, review the accessibility, controller, and audio settings that match your needs. Nintendo does not publish a specific runtime gain for these adjustments, so treat them as practical ways to reduce screen-on time or tailor the experience—not guaranteed extra hours.
Adjust screen brightness for your lighting
Brightness is the most direct everyday display adjustment. In handheld or tabletop mode, open System Settings > Screen Brightness to use the slider or enable Auto-Brightness. Nintendo Support says, “When Auto-Brightness is enabled, the screen brightness will adjust based on ambient conditions.” See Nintendo’s brightness instructions.

Manual brightness gives you a consistent level; Auto-Brightness adapts as the surrounding light changes. If you play in one setting, lower the slider until the screen remains easy to read. If you move between bright and dim places, automatic adjustment may be more convenient. There is no universal best level: visibility and comfort depend on your environment and preference.

Choose an auto-sleep interval that fits your breaks
Auto-sleep limits how long the console can remain active while idle. Go to System Settings > Sleep Mode and choose an interval for handheld or tabletop play:
- 1, 3, or 5 minutes: useful if you often set the console down and forget to put it to sleep.
- 10 or 30 minutes: allows longer pauses before sleep, which can be more convenient if you frequently stop briefly and return.
- Never: leaves the screen on until you put the console to sleep yourself.
These are convenience tradeoffs, not measured battery-saving amounts. Nintendo lists the available intervals but does not quantify how much runtime a particular choice adds. Set the shortest interval that does not interrupt your usual pauses. Nintendo’s Sleep Mode instructions describe the options.

Review the wired-connection option only if it applies to you
In System Settings > Sleep Mode, “Keep Wired Connection Active in Sleep Mode” lets the system begin downloads started from a PC or smart device while the console is asleep. The option applies only when a wired connection is set up. Nintendo says turning it off can reduce energy consumption while the system is asleep and connected to the internet; it does not provide a quantified saving or establish a gain in gameplay time.
Use Airplane Mode only when you do not need wireless features
Airplane Mode disables wireless communication functionality, including internet, local communication, Bluetooth, and NFC. You can access it through Quick Settings by holding HOME for at least one second. It may suit a session where you do not need those connections, but Nintendo’s cited instructions do not state a runtime improvement. In TV mode, Bluetooth remains active so the console can be reactivated with a paired controller, as noted in Nintendo’s Important Information booklet.

Make battery information easier to check
Showing the percentage does not conserve power, but it makes the remaining charge easier to monitor. To display the approximate battery percentage on the HOME Menu, go to System Settings > System > System Battery (%). You can also press ZL and ZR together to briefly display the percentage. Nintendo’s battery instructions cover both methods.
Consider the charge limit for long-term battery capacity
Nintendo’s settings overview describes an option to stop charging at around 80–90%, intended to help reduce battery-capacity loss over time. This caps the charge rather than extending play from the current charge, so it is a long-term battery-longevity choice—not a setting to use when your priority is the most immediate play time. Nintendo’s System Settings overview describes this and other system controls.

Personalize controls and audio for comfort
Comfort settings are personal. In the relevant sections of System Settings, explore options such as button mapping, text-to-speech, controller vibration, audio output, and volume. Button mapping can better suit how you use the controls; text-to-speech may help with supported on-screen content; and vibration and audio controls let you tailor sensory feedback and sound. Try the options that address your needs rather than treating one configuration as best for everyone. Nintendo’s settings overview identifies these categories.
