Set a custom viewport width and height

Open Chrome DevTools, then click Toggle device toolbar in the DevTools action bar. Device Mode opens with Dimensions set to Responsive.

In the Responsive viewport controls, enter the required values in the width and height boxes. You can also drag the viewport handles. Chrome’s documentation uses 480 by 415 pixels as a worked example; those values are not a recommended standard.

Open More options in the Device toolbar and choose the capture option that matches the coverage you need.

See the Chrome DevTools Device Mode guide for the documented workflow. The page does not state a dated revision history or a specific Chrome release number, so labels may differ if your installed version has a changed interface.
Choose viewport or full-page capture

Understand viewport size, presets, and DPR
The width and height controls set the simulated viewport dimensions. They do not by themselves establish the pixel dimensions of every exported screenshot file: Chrome’s cited documentation does not give a general formula for converting viewport dimensions into output-image dimensions.
Device pixel ratio (DPR) is a separate setting. Chrome defines it as the ratio between physical screen pixels and logical CSS pixels, and explains that it affects how Chrome draws a CSS pixel on HiDPI displays. It is a display-simulation setting, not a substitute for setting width and height.

Responsive mode also offers these width presets in the Chrome DevTools documentation:

These are convenient width presets, not universal recommendations for a particular site. Enter custom values when you need a specific test dimension.
Save a custom device for repeated use
If you regularly use the same configuration, save it as a custom device rather than re-entering the dimensions each time:

Open the Device toolbar’s device list and choose Edit.

In DevTools, open Settings > Devices and add a custom device. The Devices guide also describes the path as Settings > Devices > Add custom device.

Enter a name and the desired width and height. DPR, user agent, and device type are optional fields.

Save the device, then select it from the Device toolbar’s Dimensions list when you need it.

Device Mode is a first-order approximation of a mobile experience on a desktop or laptop, not a run of the page on a physical phone or tablet. As Kayce Basques writes in the Chrome DevTools documentation, “Think of device mode as a first-order approximation of how your page looks and feels on a mobile device.” Use a real mobile device, with remote debugging if useful, when actual-device behavior matters. A Device Mode screenshot alone cannot establish how the page behaves on every real device.

Troubleshooting custom-size captures

The capture has the wrong dimensions or crops content. Check both viewport fields and confirm whether you chose Capture screenshot or Capture a full size screenshot. The first captures only what is visible; the second includes the rest of the page.

You cannot find the width and height controls. Make sure the Device toolbar is enabled and that Dimensions is set to Responsive, rather than relying on a named device preset.

The page looks different from a real phone. Device Mode is an approximation. Validate on the actual device if hardware-specific behavior is important.

A saved device is missing. Add and save it under Settings > Devices, then select it from the Device toolbar’s Dimensions list.

The exported file’s pixel dimensions are not what you expected. Viewport width and height describe the simulated viewport; DPR is separate, and the cited documentation does not specify a general exported-file pixel calculation. Check the resulting image rather than assuming viewport values alone determine its file dimensions.
