For a few nearby photos, use the sharing feature already built into the phones: Quick Share on Android or AirDrop on Apple devices. Quick Share can also send photos between select Android phones and Apple devices; check model compatibility first. If you are moving an entire photo library to a replacement phone, use the phone’s migration setup instead.
Choose the right method for the job
- A few nearby photos: Use Quick Share for Android devices, AirDrop for Apple devices, or Quick Share with AirDrop on supported Android–Apple combinations.
- A large photo library during a phone switch: Use the setup or migration process. Android Switch can move photos from an iPhone to a new Android device wirelessly or by cable on select devices.
- Phones that cannot connect directly: Quick Share’s QR-code option is a fallback, but it needs internet access on both devices.
Google says it heard that people wanted a simpler way to share files between devices when it announced Quick Share and AirDrop interoperability on November 20, 2025. The feature is limited to supported Android models, so confirm compatibility before relying on it.

Send photos between Android and Apple devices
Google’s compatibility guidance covers Pixel 8a or later and selected models from Samsung, Oppo, OnePlus, Vivo, Xiaomi, Honor, Transsion, and Motorola. The exact supported devices can change as availability rolls out; check Google’s Quick Share device guidance before troubleshooting a phone that does not appear.
Android to iPhone, iPad, or Mac
- On the Apple device, open AirDrop settings and set visibility to Everyone for 10 minutes.
- On Android, open the photo, tap Share, then choose Quick Share.
- Choose the nearby Apple device when it appears. The Apple recipient must accept the transfer.
iPhone, iPad, or Mac to Android
- On the Android device, enable Quick Share receiving or suitable visibility.
- On the Apple device, select the photo and use AirDrop.
- Select the Android device and accept the transfer on the receiving phone. Samsung users may need to enable Share with Apple devices in Quick Share settings.
For both directions, visibility and recipient acceptance matter: a device that is not discoverable will not appear as a nearby destination. Google’s Android-to-iPhone sharing guide has current compatibility and setup details.

Share nearby within one ecosystem
Android to Android with Quick Share
- Choose the photo or photos, open the Share menu, and tap Quick Share.
- Select the recipient’s device.
- Have the recipient accept the request if prompted. Transfers between your own devices signed in to the same Google Account can be accepted automatically.
Apple to Apple with AirDrop
Select the photos, open the sharing controls, and choose AirDrop; then select the nearby recipient. AirDrop is Apple’s built-in option for sharing with nearby Apple devices. The precise controls can vary by device and software version.
Use the QR-code fallback when direct sharing is unavailable
If an Android phone and Apple device do not support direct Quick Share–AirDrop sharing, Quick Share can create a QR code. The recipient scans it, opens a download page in a browser, and saves the files. This route requires internet on both devices; Google says the files are end-to-end encrypted, hosted on Google servers, and available to download for 24 hours. Google documents a limit of 10 GB and 1,000 files per share session. Mobile-data charges may apply.

Move a full photo library to a new phone
For a phone replacement, Android Switch can transfer photos from an iPhone to a new Android device during setup, wirelessly or by cable on select devices. Cable support and device availability vary. Check the Android Switch guide for the specific phones and migration options; if using a cable, confirm that its connectors and data-transfer support match both devices.
Fix a phone that does not appear
- Confirm that both phones support the chosen sharing route and that the receiving device is discoverable or in receive mode.
- Check Bluetooth, keep the phones close, and retry. Google recommends bringing devices within 30 cm.
- If the devices still do not appear, toggle Airplane mode or restart them, then try again.
- For the QR-code route, check that both devices have internet access and that the recipient scans the code and downloads the files before the 24-hour window ends.
Check compatibility, privacy, and file expectations
Nearby transfers and the QR fallback are different routes: the QR option explicitly uploads encrypted files to Google servers temporarily and requires internet. For cross-platform nearby sharing, Apple’s Everyone for 10 minutes setting makes the device discoverable for a limited time; switch back to a more restrictive setting afterward if preferred.

Use built-in sharing for selected pictures rather than sending them through a messaging app when you want to avoid that app’s possible image compression. Do not assume every route preserves every metadata field or supports every photo format identically; exact behavior depends on the devices and sharing method. For a library-sized move, migration tools are more appropriate than sending photos one at a time.
