How to Send a Prerecorded Video to YouTube Live with Larix on Android

Larix Broadcaster's Android documentation covers live capture, not local-file playback. For a prerecorded video, use Larix Screencaster to stream the Android screen and verify audio in YouTube Live Control Room.

Larix Broadcaster for Android is documented for live capture and RTMP streaming, but its official feature page does not document selecting a local prerecorded video as the input. To stream a video already on your phone, the closest documented Larix workflow is to play it on the screen and use the separate Larix Screencaster app to capture that screen. Audio capture is not guaranteed: on Android 10 and later, the playback app must support external recording. Check picture and sound in YouTube Live Control Room before you make the stream public.

Choose the Larix app that matches the job

App What it does Fit for a prerecorded video Important limitation
Larix Broadcaster Captures live input and publishes it using RTMP and other protocols. Direct playback of a local video file as the source is not documented on Softvelum’s Android feature page. Do not assume it has a built-in file player or playlist. Its listed Android minimum is 7.0, with H.264/AVC video and AAC audio encoding. Softvelum’s Android documentation
Larix Screencaster Captures and streams Android screen content. Can serve as a screen-capture workaround while a video plays on the device. Whether the playback app’s sound is captured depends on Android version and the app’s support for external recording. Softvelum’s Screencaster information

This distinction matters: Broadcaster’s documented live-capture workflow is not the same as playing a stored file. Softvelum documents USB OTG UVC devices as an experimental external video/audio input for Broadcaster, not as a way to feed it a local video file. See the Android feature details

Check YouTube access and prepare the stream

  1. Enable live streaming ahead of time. In YouTube Studio, choose Create → Go live and create a stream or select one already scheduled. YouTube says first-time live-stream enablement may take up to 24 hours, so do not leave activation until broadcast time. YouTube’s encoder streaming instructions
  2. Get the connection details for that stream. In Live Control Room, copy the server URL and stream key. The key functions like a password: do not share it, and reset or rotate it if it is exposed. YouTube’s encoder setup requires both the server URL and key. YouTube Help
  3. Check Larix app availability on your device. Screencaster is a separate app from Broadcaster, and app availability or behavior may vary by device and current store listing. Broadcaster’s Android documentation lists Android 7.0+ as its minimum; that is an app specification, not a guarantee that every phone or playback app will behave identically. Softvelum Android documentation

Stream a local video through Larix Screencaster

  1. Open Screencaster and configure its connection. Larix’s connection setup uses a server/application URL and a stream name or key. Its setup reference gives rtmp://a.rtmp.youtube.com/live2 as a YouTube example and explains that the combined values go in Larix’s Connection URL field. Prefer the current URL and key shown for your selected stream in Live Control Room if they differ from that example. Larix connection setup reference
  2. Start screen capture and open the video. Grant the requested screen-capture permission, then play the local video full-screen. Set the phone to the intended orientation before playback and avoid notifications or other interruptions appearing on screen.
  3. Check the audio path. Softvelum says Android 9 and earlier do not let apps capture audio from other apps. On Android 10 and later, media sounds can be captured only from apps that support external recording. A visible video therefore does not guarantee that its sound will reach the stream. Softvelum Screencaster FAQ
  4. Start sending the screen to YouTube. Use Screencaster’s streaming control to begin the configured RTMP stream. Keep the video playing and check that the phone is not about to sleep, switch apps, or interrupt playback.
  5. Inspect YouTube’s incoming preview before going public. In Live Control Room, confirm the picture, orientation, and sound, then select Go live when ready. For a scheduled stream, YouTube specifically instructs encoder users to wait for the preview before starting the public broadcast. YouTube Help
  6. End the broadcast cleanly. Stop the encoder and use End Stream in Live Control Room as appropriate. YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours are automatically archived. YouTube Help

Audio, compatibility, and content checks

Do not assume app audio will be captured

Screen capture and media-audio capture have different requirements. Android version, playback-app support, and content protection can affect whether sound is available to Screencaster. The cited documentation does not establish behavior for a particular phone, Android build, player, or protected file. Test the exact video and audio route in YouTube’s preview before making the broadcast public.

Confirm you have streaming rights

A video being stored on your phone does not establish that you have permission to broadcast it. Make sure you have the rights to the video, music, and other included material, and check YouTube’s applicable copyright rules before streaming. YouTube’s encoder guide covers connection and broadcast setup; it does not grant rights to content. YouTube encoder instructions
