What’s actually slowing this PC down?

Yes—browser-based peer-to-peer services can send a file from one browser to another without first uploading the file to cloud storage. But 100GB+ is a possible use case, not a guaranteed limit-free transfer: browser behavior, free disk space, network conditions, and the service’s implementation all matter.
How a direct browser transfer works
The sender selects a file in a web app and shares an invitation link or code with the recipient. The service uses WebRTC to establish a peer connection, then carries the file through a data channel. The payload can travel directly between the two browsers rather than being uploaded to a cloud file host first. The WebTorrent project describes this capability in its WebTorrent FAQ; FilePizza also documents direct transfers in its project README and FAQ.

“Direct” does not necessarily mean that no servers are involved. A service may use infrastructure for signaling and coordination, or a TURN relay if the browsers cannot connect directly. FilePizza’s configuration documents a PeerJS signaling host and optional TURN support. That distinction concerns the file payload: the available documentation does not establish exactly what infrastructure every hosted session uses.

Can a browser transfer really handle 100GB or more?
It may, if the service, browsers, devices, storage, and network can sustain it. There is no universal 100GB guarantee in the cited documentation, and the sources do not provide an independently published 100GB success rate, benchmark, or maximum. FilePizza says its practical file-size limit depends on what the browser can handle. fsend identifies the recipient’s free disk space and connection as constraints. Treat claims such as “no file size limits” as service-specific, not as a guarantee for every browser or device.

- Get NVMe solid state performance with up to 1050MB/s read and 1000MB/s write speeds in a portable, high-capacity drive(1) (Based on internal testing; performance may be lower depending on host device & other factors. 1MB=1,000,000 bytes.)
- Up to 3-meter drop protection and IP65 water and dust resistance mean this tough drive can take a beating(3) (Previously rated for 2-meter drop protection and IP55 rating. Now qualified for the higher, stated specs.)
- Use the handy carabiner loop to secure it to your belt loop or backpack for extra peace of mind.
- Help keep private content private with the included password protection featuring 256‐bit AES hardware encryption.(3)
- Easily manage files and automatically free up space with the SanDisk Memory Zone app.(5). Non-Operating Temperature -20°C to 85°C
Storage behavior can make a substantial difference. fsend says Chrome, Edge, and Opera expose the File System Access API it uses to write directly to disk. It says Firefox and Safari buffer the transfer in memory and save a ZIP at the end, so available RAM may become the limiting factor. These are fsend’s compatibility notes, not a general guarantee about every browser-based transfer service; check the service’s current documentation for the browser you plan to use.
Send a very large file: practical checklist
- Choose a service for your devices and needs. Confirm its current browser compatibility and how it handles large downloads. FilePizza and fsend document browser-to-browser transfer, but their capabilities and availability may change.
- Select the file and invite the recipient. FilePizza describes sharing a short or long URL; fsend describes sharing a one-time code. Use the invitation method the service provides.
- Keep the transfer pages open. FilePizza says the uploader must leave the browser open until completion. fsend says both tabs must stay open. Closing a tab, shutting down a device, or losing the session can interrupt the transfer.
- Check the recipient’s available storage. Leave more than 100GB free for a file of that size. A browser or service may need temporary space or create an archive; the cited documentation does not establish a universal overhead amount.
- Allow time for the connection and transfer. Speed and success depend on both devices’ connections and network configuration. If a direct route cannot be established, a service may support TURN relaying, but relay availability depends on its implementation.
What “without cloud storage” does—and does not—mean
In a peer-to-peer transfer, the file payload can move from the sender’s browser to the recipient’s without first being stored on a cloud file host. FilePizza describes its transfer this way: “Your files are sent directly from your browser to the downloader’s browser. They never pass through our servers.” That is FilePizza’s description of its service, not an independent audit finding.

- Capacity Display Variance: 500GB external ssd often appears as around 465GB on Windows. MacOS can show full 500 GB capacity. This is binary calculation difference and doesn’t affect SSD hard drive actual physical storage
- 1050 MB/s Speed: Instantly access to your files with blazing-fast 10Gbps external SSD read up to 1050MB/s and write up to 1000MB/s. LED Light indicates USB SSD instant activity
- Data Security: Solid state drives S.M.A.R.T. health diagnostics and adaptive TRIM optimizing data block management ensures consistent write speeds and extends the longevity of the portable SSD
- USB-C & USB-A Cable: Both cables featuring rapid USB 3.2 Gen2, this USB SSD effortlessly bridges devices, enabling seamless cross-platform file transfers and backup between computers, smartphones, tablets and iPhone
- Always Fast: No slowdowns for large file transfers. With SLC caching (25% of current available capacity allocated as high-speed cache), this external SSD delivers steady 10Gbps for transfers within the cache capacity
WebRTC data channels are encrypted in transit: FilePizza says its WebRTC communications use DTLS, and WebTorrent describes WebRTC data channels as encrypted. Encryption in transit does not establish that a service collects no metadata, that either device is secure, that the recipient is trustworthy, or that the implementation has passed an independent security audit.
Browser and service details worth checking
- Size handling: FilePizza’s FAQ says, “As big as your browser can handle.” That is the project’s practical guidance, not a browser-standard maximum.
- Supported devices: FilePizza says it supports most mobile browsers, including Mobile Safari, while noting that file-size limits depend on the browser.
- Writing large downloads: fsend’s documented behavior differs by browser: it uses direct-to-disk writing through the File System Access API in Chrome, Edge, and Opera, and describes memory buffering followed by ZIP creation in Firefox and Safari.
- Transfer implementation: WebTorrent explains the broader WebRTC data-channel model. FilePizza says its current v2 direct-transfer path uses WebRTC without WebTorrent, so the technology background should not be mistaken for a description of FilePizza’s current transfer implementation.
