MitID says a full suspension temporarily stops all MitID activity, including your own use. Exposure of personal information alone does not prove that your MitID was used, but the warning signs below can help you decide what to do.
When to suspend your complete MitID
Suspend the full MitID if you approved a request you did not initiate, notice a user ID change you did not make, receive unfamiliar MitID messages, gave your user ID or password to someone you suspect is a fraudster, or otherwise suspect that someone is misusing your account. MitID says a full suspension prevents both you and anyone else from using MitID until it is unlocked. You can suspend it yourself or contact MitID Support for help. Choose the right kind of block
A lost or stolen phone is not, by itself, proof that your MitID account has been compromised. MitID distinguishes blocking one authenticator from suspending the complete service:

Deleting or uninstalling the MitID app does not block it. Use the official blocking process instead. See MitID’s instructions for blocking MitID or an authenticator.

Check for activity you do not recognize
Open your MitID profile and review the latest activity and the fuller activity list. Look for logins or approvals you did not make, and note their time and the service involved before contacting Support. MitID says the names of service providers shown in the activity list depend on your notification and profile settings, so a missing provider name alone may not establish whether an event was legitimate. The profile activity guidance is at MitID’s profile page.
Change exposed credentials through MitID
MitID password
MitID lists three routes to change your password: through your profile after signing in with the MitID app, by phone through MitID Support, or at Citizen Service. For the online route, request access first and wait 24 hours before editing the password; it is not an immediate reset. If you suspect account misuse, changing the password is not a substitute for suspending the complete MitID and getting help. Follow MitID’s current password-change instructions.

MitID user ID
You can change your user ID in the MitID app or at MitID.dk. MitID recommends considering a change if you suspect misuse or want an ID that is harder to guess. Distinguish a change you made yourself from an unexpected change: MitID lists an unexplained user ID change as a warning sign. See the official user ID instructions.

Use MitID’s live help and support page to confirm current contact details, opening hours, and identity-verification options. At the time those details were checked on October 7, 2026, the English-language page listed +45 33 98 00 10 for Denmark and +299 55 18 18 for Greenland, with help in Danish, English, and Greenlandic. It listed English and Danish service hours as Monday–Friday 8:00–20:00, weekends and public holidays 10:00–16:00, and December 24 and 31 10:00–14:00. For help blocking MitID outside support hours, it listed +45 33 37 00 37. These operational details can change, so check the page before calling.

MitID says actual misuse should always be reported to the police. Support may need to verify your identity to help with a password reset; use the options on its official page rather than sending personal identifiers in ordinary email or posting them in comments. If the exposed information could affect other services, follow those providers’ official security instructions as well; the MitID process does not secure unrelated accounts.

- Never share MitID codes. Public authorities, banks, and MitID Support will not ask you for your user ID or codes. MitID notes a limited situation in which you may share your user ID when you independently contact your bank or MitID Support; that is not permission to disclose codes.
- Read each approval prompt before accepting it. Do not approve an action you did not start or do not understand.
- If you suspect compromise, suspend the complete MitID and contact official support rather than relying on a password change alone.
MitID cautions that “No solution offers 100 percent protection against fraud.” Its advice is to protect your credentials, review approval prompts, and suspend MitID if you suspect compromise. See MitID’s account-protection advice.
